  • When they call this guy the "Complete Guitarist" they are not joking.

Very few have played everything, from 12 century Medieval Lute to Rock to Jazz with equal dexterity. If Django Reinhardt was still around i know he would admire Jan Akkerman.

The main thing with Jan..he KNOWS when to slow down, uses space, doesn't clutter, makes every note count.

He COULD do because he'd melt most guitar shredders in secs.

  • Gutarist extrodinare!

  • can some one send me the tabs please :) ?

  • I would love to play over this kind of backing tracks, does anyone know where i can find these? I love this music and jan is one of a kind!

  • Gus, Thanks for sharing the vid. Some nice guitar work.

  • One of the most heart felt and emotional compositions performed !

Akkeman - there is nothing that can express the feeling , like Jan ,- but this must be the greatest emotional composition , that Jan has ever made ! -If it does not make you cry , but feel happy & moved all at the same time ? - Hmm, nothing will ! FEEL THE SOUL HERE ! it is there ! Jan & band , = soul :) gus

  • @gusthebroken2

I think Prima Donna tops it... Search for it.. :-).

Vaag, vaag, vaag.

  • diocane che meraviglia...

  • You dutch people , I envy you who can hear him play at home..

  • he´s a gentleman, not to be forgotten these good guys with him on stage,,,,,,

  • word er helemaal chill van!

  • Dizze man mat een standbeeld ha

  • Wow, this is amazing. Never seen this guy before, he plays really nicely and doesn't extaggerate if you know what I mean...Really relaxing music! :)

  • GREAT !!!

  • Thats amazing, to say that Jan is imitating somebody is at least ignorant. He had his own voice in the instrument and its already a legend. By the way, the band sounds amazing on this one, love the bass tone!

  • old europa. thanks jan.

  • It always amazes me how people on youtube rate guitar players like Clapton, Gilmour, Page etc (all good players but so predictably basic) above someone like this. I've been a fan of Akkerman since 1968. It's hard to find such an all round, versatile & well educated player. One of the few electric guitarists that even Andres Segovia would 've taken notice of.

  • heavy riffs like phd...and all up in there!

  • this makes me think of sweet ballad by somehow........

    he is just GREAT!!

    thanks so much dear gusthebroken2!

  • @hardgreenhorn: gusthebroken2??

  • Love his guitar magnisent

  • Genius.Nothing else to say!

  • Eine der besten Sachen aus den Nierderlanden.

  • Jan Akkerman was one of my chidhood favourite guitarists. This is a cover of a great song but you MUST hear the Cate Brothers version - out of this world. Interesting comparison.

  • Great Jan!

  • Thanks for posting this. I have only just found this guy after hearing Andy Latimer and Mikael Akerfeldt are big fans..

  • why wearing that stupid hat?

  • @Pan3405 When the finger point to the moon, don't look at the finger.

    Cheers.

  • lovely

  • nice and gentle song. but l still can't forget Jan's amazing guitar solos from Hocus Pocus.

  • Cool sound

Thanks a lot for the share DirkjeA

  • Very nice. I lost touch with Jan after Focus.

  • @FLUSEM666 I lost touch with Focus after he left..

  • PRACHTIG

  • Nice tune! Also cool that Meischke plays acoustic bass aswell as electric bass :D

  • he is the blues king

if Jan Akkerman guitar battle versus Gugun who will win

  • glad that he will be playin in Indonesia this november 7th.

  • Good for you! And I am also glad, because Jan is playing in Vught, yes indeed, next saterday!! Have fun!!!

  • after all these years still an amazing guitar player

  • so but strongs in the love that speach every day, i dont have a litle bag to study more in the life but this music make me a but low

  • its played in minors thats why it sounds sad

  • I do love Jan's guitar work, I must however say that it sometimes lacks of emotion. So to me the title of this song should be. You are losing me, because this stuff is putting me to sleep.

  • yeah thats why i never indepth followed him , until today !

fucking hell i heard this track and it was fucking amazing , all i have to do now is find it which i think will take me half a day in a cd shop somewhere filtering through his cd's. its gona be worth it , i' ll let you know which track it is , i'll tell you its a fucking masterpiece a work of art .

they should drop the fucking "chimey " shit on this track , no wonder it puts you to fuwking sleep . Fucking horrible .

    In a single word: PITIFUL.

  • You mean you are pitifulll?? what a strange and silly comment..

  • If pitiful was the message you wished to convey then why the four lines of Chinese gibberish?

  • Almost crying listening to this. Its wonderful musique.

Zoiets, haha!

  • Jan is even better in his solo project than in Focus! This is a very cool tune, nice guitar work.

  • @tallboyrelaxed And who,s he imitating ?......

  • @Tbird12341 Don't know.. You tell me ;)

Btw, I don't think Jan is imitating anybody except himself ;)

  • @Tbird12341 If you dislike Jan Akkerman so much, that you commented on at least 4 of his videos here on You Tube in a realy silly and negative way by calling him coward etc, got nothing better to do? Go listen to music you do like and get a life because this is so sad

  • @stoofbuis there are very telented musicans from the netherlands.

  • Paul van Vliet speelde ooit een programma: 'The truth behind the dykes'..

  • @burnsmay helemaal mee eens !!

  • Nee hoor, JAN AKKERMAN

  • movin' and groovin'...wow...it makes me feel my love in another light....bright!

    Thanks for.

  • BeakerArk - True.

It was Coco's version that inspired Jan. (Coco actually played on the Cate brothers album that this song appeared on

  • hate to dispoil your comments.. . but this was written by Earl and Ernie Cate of the Cate Brothers' Band...

  • @BeakerArk - I took the liberty of listening to the version of the Cate Brothers' Band and now I'm glad Jan Akkerman picked that up. Compared, Jan plays this with more emotion in it than in the original. That's ofcourse my personal opinion. For all I care, everybody must choose their own favorites. But Jan is one of mine. A guitarplayer 'pur sang' who doesn't want to imitate anyone. I recognize his sound anywhere. And that is what makes a musician stand out, I my opinion.

  • Hate to dispoil your comments, but this tune was written by Earl and Ernie Cate, not Coco Montoya. . .

  • One of my favourite Akker-Ballads here played on the gorgeous Gibson L5 (which sounds truly amazing and now even better through the handmade 'Marble' Jazzah amp not being used here). Hulldanfan is right, this is a very restrained version, my own favourite being the one on the Live 10,000 Clowns CD. There he is using the trademark Les Paul and he rips into it with a blistering solo at the end. Jan hasn't played this in his live set for a few years now and I miss it.

  • this is just so beautiful, brings tears in my eyes, and that is what good music does for you.

  • he hallo haha snel erop gezet??

    gegroet

  • This comes from one of my favorite music DVD's. A great Coco Montoya song that has become one of Jan's signature tunes. This version is quite 'restrained' whilst the version on his solo album 'Focus in Time' is one of music's epic guitar moments.
