For Death fans who wish Human had more audible bass I recommend you buy the new 2011 remastered version. The bass is now much louder in the mix. Trust me it's one of the few remastered albums that's actually worth buying even if you own the original.
Unfortunately, bass sounds very low on almost every single metal album. It's really a shame. Everytime I hear a bass solo on a metal album I turn up the volume to hear it.
@R0bb89 I love how Iron Maiden turns up the bass. Its awesome to be able to fully concentrate on the bassline in a metal song. Testament puts their bass also pretty high up if im right. Love it.
Steve is a great bass player, one of the best, but I always thought a lot of his bass lines sound like my intestines after eating a lot of cabbage and baked beans.
Bass players are so important. Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and The Who all had great bassplayers, and there "full" sound comes from that. Steve DiGiorgio is a bassplayer who was turned down in the mix (Like Cliff Burton) but you always feel the records no doubt would have sold WAY more if the bass was turned up a bit.
Steve is such an awesome basist, he motivated me to play bass too, I'm soon gonna buy an ESP LTD F-104, same model as him ^^, can any1 recommend a bass amp between 50 and 100 watts so I can play with me mateys?
wow! well as a bassist he have one of the amazing bassline i ever heard, stop arguing he is better than cliff burton, common listen carefully, use your ear not your mouth idiot!
Great video but would you mind at least putting the numbers (1-14) as annotations in the vid. Like this we wouldn't have to go through the whole video just to find out what that one song is.
Again, nice vid. I never heard of this guy before.
Awesome compilation, dude! Steve's one of my favorite bass players. Ever heard "Torture" by Sadus? I love the bass solo (under the guitar riff!) in that song.
@BiorythmicDrifter I disagree, his bass is reasonably prominent throughout, especially considering that it's a death metal album (albeit more progressive death metal)....I think the production is fine and that they couldn't have done a much better job with DiGorgio's bass...I'll have to check out some other bands though...like Control Denied, as I get the impression it's even more consciously progressive so I'd imagine he'd really shine on that...
@BiorythmicDrifter You can hear the bass on every song. The secret of all pro bass players in metal bands is that you don't really "hear" the bass standing out (like the guitars or the drums) but you would definitely notice if the bass wasn't there. ;)
Screw all who say that metal doesn't take talent or that its bass players just follow the guitars. Steve could give a fair amount of jazz bassists a run for their money.
Suppose it would be too much to ask for annotations saying which song is which? If I knew I'd look up some of these. Awesome fucking bassist either way.
Steve also played with Quo Vadis on their Defiant Imagination album. He's solid throughout, but my favourite work is on Tunnel Effect (Elemental Ensemble IV), especially at the 2:00 mark. I'd link to it, but youtube isn't allowing me to post the URL.
@DrowningSorrows1 That's because Jaco is awesome as well. My three favorite bassplayers is Steve, Jaco and Geezer, but I must say that Jaco is the greatest of all time. :)
im hoping that with the release of the control denied record there'll be a revived in interest in schuldiner and death and with it they'll re-release a remastered human and spiritual healing, which went out of print, along with the the rest of the catalogue.
I saw Quo Vadis this past year when they played at the Pavillion in Halifax, they had previous worked with DiGiorgio in studio but he was not with them at this event, which sucks, but they had a female bassist who I didn't catch the name of who played all of his stuff perfectly, it was quite an amazing thing.
