Ahh, I remember well the very 1st King holiday in '86. I knew one of the kids who appear at the beginning of this video (talking w/ Dexter King) - we were attending the same school at the time. We were only a grade apart.
I had forgotten that Menudo was in this!
2 of the 3 members of Whodini are almost too FOINE for words!
There is nothing but top-notch talent in this, although some didn't have the long career to match.
re: Whitney - sad what drugs can do to one's looks and talent.
Mixing the new "fad" called rap with beatboxing into chorus singing,R&B and,pop entertainers. This was 2 years before We are the World took this format. Superstar entertainers getting together in one studio! Teena Marie;Stephanie Mills.New Edition, a young Stacy Lattisaw and Witney Houston,Lisa Lisa and Full Force,Hip Hop legends Furious Five,Run DMC,Fat Boys.JT Thomas of Kool and the Gang Classic!
I have been waiting to see this video for year and what memories it brings back, thanks for the post and to see all those singers back in the day make me want to cry for joy ....
That Dexter King know he's a fine brotha. I loved this song...it's unfortunate that he wasn't here to see the first African American President, something that his dream consisted of; equality for all men. It's unfortunate that so many of "them" are still not past that slave mentality, but until "we" change our attitude and stop shooting, killing and degrading each other with the "N" word we'll always be less than zero in their eyes.
Vintage! I luv the mix of rap, r&b artists...old times! Lol. Look at James Taylor's shag with the Jherri Curl! Nice how they went with the obvious "We Are The World" theme, ya know?
This video has been removed from this site several times since it was first posted by one of my colleages in 2006. I see this is a different format so the administrators of youtube would leave it alone now. I'm really glad that it came from Video Soul from early 1986 (vintage BET).
So much talent in Whitney lost due to her ups and downs may she rest in peace finally ;(
