  • I'm 14 and getting this done at the end of the year...

  • I am getting this done in a few weeks. (The nuss) down here in Sydney. For those with questions:

    1) The pain is managed with epidural/IV/Oral Medication and a phsyio

    2) You will have to do lung exercises after to prevent phenomena

    3) Build up your immunity system if you get a cold/flu/cough with the bar in it will kill (A friend had to get his removed due to this)

    4) Button-Up shirts are the way to go for a few weeks

    All the best.

P.S: Donald Nuss. You are the champion of all champions.

  • Da li ima neko iz Srbije da je vise upucen u ovo??

  • Hey I had the surgery when I was 8 got me it es a little more painful because they pumped me up with morphine for the pain but it turns out I was allergic! But otherwise it wasn't terrible. God luck for rose who are going to have it done

  • @LauraStar11 I'm 16 and have it and these videos are good for info but I think I'm stressing myself out too much watching all if them. I might just go for it and hope for the best

  • is Pectus Excavatum count when only my left rib bends in? the right rib is perfectly formed but the left is all messed up

  • @1PasGas Yup. Ribs, hips, shoulders, and chest are affected by PE. I have PE and the same exact thing you have with the left ribs. So ya sounds like you have it.

  • I am 14 and I had my surgery 4 months ago. The pain wasn't that bad for me and I was out of the hospital fast. I went in on Monday and of out on Thursday. My doctor was experienced and he did a really good job. I recommend getting the surgery at a young age, the pain will be less.

  • @furcal3 I'm 15 and my worse fear is the pain. So it really isn't that bad? Then again they probably loaded you with pain killers, but how was the pain when you were sent home?

  • @LauraStar it isnt that bad, they only put in an epiderl and an IV, the pain when i got home wasnt too bad i was walking around the day after i got home but i had to take it easy, nothing really hurt too much but laughing hurts so watch out for that

  • this is what i have to say about it i do not have this problem i was never born with it but if i was i would have it done asap it just could save your live

  • @tubble6 hoi

  • in two days im getting mine..

  • I'm getting this done in 5 days!! I'm starting to get nervous. Can't believe that I'm finally going to be free. I wish you guys didn't have to pay for the surgery, it makes me sad. Hope you'll be able to get it done some time!!! :)

  • I had to have both the nuss and ravitch done 2 months apart to fix my chest. the nuss was done wrong( that was incredibly painful) and I had to go to chkd to have the ravitch. It sucked finding out that the first one was done wrong from another surgeon. If anyone is having either operation done, PLEASE make sure your doctor has experience. I don't think the one that did my nuss did, he even tried to keep me from seeing someone at chkd. chkd is the best place to go. great people there.

  • i use to have pectus excavatum until i got the surgery

  • @JEPRODUCTIONS97 IS IT WORTH THE AIN? IM JUST THINKING IF I SHOULD GET IT OR NOT??? HAHA SORRY ITS IN CAITAL LETTERS MY KEYBOARD IS BROKEN

  • I had this done too. It hurt A LOT. Still manageable, but the powerful constant pain after the surgery sucked. It slowly disappeared after a few weeks, though. My chest looks perfectly normal now except for one thing: There is almost no muscles or fat on my chest because of the pectus excavatum. It'll unfortunately take a long time before that gets ok. But I'm happy with the result, when I'm able to work out again I will be so happy.

  • im 18 -had to get this done twice, first bar didn't push everything out, so i went back and got it done again, I've got 2 bars in my chest right now. it hurt quite abit but you'll get over it when you look in the mirror. When I got my 2nd bar in it barley hurt, still a bit of pain.

    strongly recommend this surgery.

  • i had this done august 12th of last year it sucked and that thing they put in your back doesnt work at all and talk about pain, watching this makes my chest hurt a lil haha but everything works out in the long run.

  • @alvinhogoalkeeper same here! :P now I know I'm not alone in this

  • Oh, God..

  • I have an inch deep depression is this severe or does it have the possibility to become severe

  • Comment removed

  • i went to my doctor today , he said that my Chest needs a surgery ..

I have some questions ... I would appreciate that someone would reply

How long do you stay in the hospital , after the surgery ?

is it really Painful , after the surgery ?

Can you make any physical efforts after the surgery ?

  • @alvinhogoalkeeper I had this procedure done last year on my chest. After the surgery, I stayed in the hospital for 5 days, It wasn't that painful for me after the surgery (I can handle some pain). But the most painful parts are wearing a catheter and getting the epidural taken out after a couple days. (epidural is an anaesthetic drug). I work out and played sports and when I got the surgery, I got less tired from working out and felt like a better athlete than ever before.

  • @StarBoy62 thanks alot , but someone told me that when the bar is inside of you , you can't make any physical efforts .. is it true ? ..

    I really appreciated ur reply , thanks !! :)

  • @alvinhogoalkeeper You bet. Sometimes there are physical efforts, sometimes not. After a couple months, you will feel less and less pain. Trust me it was like that for me.

  • @StarBoy62 i'm doing my surgery in august , and i am a little scared ... but o well , at least my chest will go back to normal :D

  • They say minamally invasive because the scaring is minimal. Trust me, it hurts like hell but they take good care of you

  • im just wondering having this done or not, is it life threatening? and do you have scars for the rest of your life from the operation?

  • @keating9400 no, and yes you do

  • @keating9400 i live in Denmark wich gave me the opetunity to get this procedure for free, so i choose to do so. the worst pain you'll get is before the operation when they stick a tube inside you back, and then of couse you will feel very sich afterwards. the scars will not be very vissible but to do so, your scars are not allowed to get direct sunlight for 12 months.

ps. the worst pain you will have after the procedure is that you're only allowed to lie on your back the next 6 weeks.

  • @keating9400

All surgical procedures have risks involved, trust me on that. But I would not say this is a life threatening procedure. And yes you will have scars for the rest of your life. But they are somewhat small and fade a little over time.

  • Took off the bar yesterday.. So much easier than the first surgery...

  • Check my video. I have pectus excavatum also. Honestly, it plays a huge role in destroying my summertime social life. I am only 15 and I will never get these years back. I really hope that I'll be able to get this surgery. Again, please watch my video

  • I just turned 16 and I had this "hole" all my life. My brother has this also. I think it is a dominant trait and gets passed onto males since males have 1 x chromosome, which gives a big chance of getting affected by this. My friends call it a hole and make fun sometimes. I am not a nerd :D I'm just smart and handsome :) everyone who has this shit, just get over it...

  • I'm getting this done in two days. Very nervous and not sure what I'm getting in to. Its my first surgery and all. Hope others who go through life with this deformity are able to find happiness and energy.

  • @oneviolinist Im having this done in several days...which hospital are you going to? I'm nervous but looking forward to it..

  • @Hotdog40404040404 I got it done at cleveland clinic. Home now and very sore but glad to of gotten it done. The worst part for me was right when I woke up and when they got an xray aftwards. But things are getting better:)

  • I'm 18 years old, and i also suffer from Pectus Excavatum. I have a horrible social life, and i beleve that no one should have to suffer from this deformity. Why should we have to pay money and go through years of pain just to be classified as "norml"? It just isn't fair.

  • @bentskey29 hey i have to get it to omg im super scared :l arent u

  • omg i have to get this next month im really scared :l i need advice someone plz message me

  • @posiondelightz It's okay. The first week will be hell and the first month will just be awful, but it's downhill from there. Full recovery occurs somehwere around 5-6 months later, if my memory doesn't fail me. That's when you can pattake in physical activites as usual.

  • i did this 3 weeks ago

  • @Ritzzar were u in alot of pain im going to get it next month

  • @posiondelightz in hospital you get alot of painkillers and stuff , and wont feel so much , the pain starts when you will come home.. its almost 2 months fpr me now and i still fell the pain , not as much as in the begining but it feels... i can only sleep on my back its so annoying... Honsetsly this feel like torture, not to scare you but i still cant do shit....

  • @Ritzzar Don't forget to take into account that you're relatively old in respect to the ideal patient age for the procedure (12-18, I think) . Recovery _will_ be all kinds of awful if you get the surgery done when older. On a personal note, I got my surgery done when I was 17-18, and I recall being able to enjoy normal sleep after 1-2 months. Although, it's been 3 years later now and sneezing still hurts like a bitch. >:(

  • thnx for reply mrgolter :)

  • Does this hurt more than getting a tatoo? I ve had the bar in for like 8 months and im wondering how a tatoo would feel in comparison. Has any1 had both done?

  • dosent anyone know if insurance helps if u have pain?

  • @lllKyLell I too did some research, and it looks like if you have pain most insurance will cover it.

  • I'm 18 years old from Kosovo (Albania). I will do this surgery soon in Turkey.. but I can't understand just How long the Pectus Bar will be in my chest? everything else looks great... :)

  • @fati1369 Are you going to Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi / Izmir?

The bar will be inside fo 2-4 years. Search for Ahmet Önen bro..

  • @GozLeRiMdeHayaLiNx3 I don't think so ... Did you do this NUSS operation ?? Thanks for replaying :) ...

  • @fati1369 No i will this Summer 2011:)

  • Hi, I had done the Nuss procedure the last february, but I'm still having a very deep chest hole, my doctor says that the bar will be pushing my chest in the next months, but this does'nt sound logic for me, does anyone has the same problem? or maybe my doctor is trying to lie to me. please help me I'm very dissapointed with the results.

  • @tsukinoalan Go back, i don't think so..It pushes up when the bar is in your chest. Sorry for my language.

  • That must hurt like a bitch! i'm not sure if i want to have it done nobody's ever even looked at mine and i didn't even know what it was called till last week when the chiropractor i have been going to for over 12 years noticed. Mines about the same or worse than the kid in the video so i would prob have to go this route instead of the vacuum bell.

  • That must hurt like a bitch!

  • @bentskey29 i didnt think it was horrible but to some people it hurts like crazy

  • i have this and im 14 does it cost lots? and what kind of doctor do i see?

  • @polypfolder ya its like $25,000 so u want to get insurance coverage and u want to see a surgeon who specializes in pectus excavatum and they will tell you what tests and other doctors u need to see

  • this one is so much better than ursian1's. its so much more informative.

  • i had mine in june i get my bar taken out 2morrow! ya! it hurts like a mofo!

  • i have 1 too

  • my one is on the 17th of december

  • i had this done when i was 13, was kinda painful but great results, had to see what they did, finally

  • Comment removed

  • @RimPictures Hey i have to get it done on the 29th =P

  • i just had this surgery and found i was in no pain afterward... it just feels like someone is sitting on ur chest(if u get the option for an epideral TAKE IT!!) epidural takes away the feeling in ur chest for the 2 days u have it in then they take it out and u feel the pressure

  • I have pectus excavatum also im 22 and thinking about getting this surgery, this video makes me feel sick! How does it feel for your chest to finally fill out your clothes?

  • @js9887 I am now 21, but was 16 when I had the nuss bar procedure for my very severe PE... for me, the pain was excruciating for about 2 wks, but it was easily managed with the epidural. It was difficult to re-learn motions like walking, sitting up & laying down. Throughout the 2.5 years that I had to keep the bar in, I would feel the pain/discomfort at the end of each day, but with an ibuprofen it's ok. Regardless of the pain, it was absolutely worth it. Lung capacity inc &no more palpitations

  • @js9887 I recommend it. It is painful, but helps so much long-term. Your pulmonary function increases, if you have heart palpitations like I did, they're basically not a problem anymore, boosts self esteem, helps increase endurance when exercising, etc. It's a short amount of your life to devote to the struggle of this correction, but with the nuss procedure, chances of recurrence are minimal.

  • im operated too

  • @Mirza1911able9 was the process pain ful, i have the same problem and don´t know if i should be operated or not

  • @AlexTube95 Did this 3 months ago, and I don't regret at all. When I first woke up after the surgery I didn't feel any pain (pumped up with all sorts of drugs:D). The pain was fully manageable until like day 3. Then I woke up with a huge amount of pain from my right incision and the pain even increased as soon as i started to move. The pain was really bad the 3rd and 4th day, but decreased a lot the 5ft day. All in all the pain wasn't that big of a deal considering just 2 days with real PAIN.

  • @seffiboi OK...thx 4 sharing xD

  • @AlexTube95 VERY painful. For a while. Mine was extremely severe before the nuss procedure, but I had to stay on vicodin for about 8 weeks after I left the hospital. But, like I've said before, it's absolutely worth it. The younger the better, but it provides a huge improvement in lifestyle.

  • @lauraalice213 how old are you? im 17 having it done in a month. fingers crossed!!! :) plus where and what country you had it in?

  • @RimPictures I am 22, but had the placement surgery at age 16. I had it done at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, U.S.A. I just read @Lukeadkuke200's comment, that's incredible that it wasn't painful for him. I guess it's different for everyone, but either way, I believe it's worth it. Best of luck @RimPictures with your surgery!

  • i had mine done a few days ago just got back from hospital... its quite painfull but good results

  • hey rimpictures i got it done loooveee the results not much pain but make sure u get your pain killers cuz it can hurt like a bitch!

  • My friend has to get this done in 20 days. :-/

  • i have had mine in for a little over a year now ( going for 3-4 years) anyone know what its like getting the bar removed, i figure its vaguely similar to it being put in..

  • @sabertiger29 I cant go for the surgery as mine is just a mild condition.I feel sad.Do you have any tips ?

  • @rasboi The doctors all told me mine was minor and how much i didn't need this surgery, but i got it done anyways and feel great. I say, if you want the surgery done and your insurance will cover it do it. the pain at first harsh, but eventuall you get used to it..

  • @sabertiger29 THanks :) I have to talk to my mum again about getting the surgery.mean while please check out the video response i have posted :) By the way,i do not have any breathing problems :)

  • I get my surgery last week and it hurt SO MUCH.

  • @gorthorki on a scale of 1/10 how bad was the pain like a OMG someone drilled a hole in my head or shit i go hit by a ball in the nuts...

  • This surgery greatly improved my quality of life. the pain was severe at first but it was worth it

  • hey guys im 20 yrs old and had the surgery a month ago in san antonio tx... 9 days after the surgery i was already going out to the movies and the mall so it that just shows that people are different when it comes to pain tolerance. i am off of pain meds now and am not as numb anymore.

things i remember about the surgery....

i burns like hell when they pull the catheder out of your dick : (

to everyone who is considering it i highly reccommend!

  • getting mine in the fall im scared

  • Is the bar under the ribcage and sternum or over the ribcage? The fucking doctor put the upper bar OVER my ribcage on the left side and trapped my left pectus muscle causing TERRIBLE neuropathic pain from the trapped nerve. I had to have the bars removed due to the pain and a chronic sternal wound (which I'm still dealing with for over 1 year) and I have permanant nerve damage over my left chest. So, does the bar go under the ribs? Is there s doctor that would agree with that?

  • i have pectus excavatum but i kind of like it

  • @Lakers3315

awesome man, do you know how much it would take for one to recover enough to go to school? i may get it done soon

  • @Lakers3315

wow your friends are not your friends at alll, just a bunch of fags. best of luck to you man...damn you're probably having the surgery right now.. good luck and stay positive.

  • I am going to join the military, i had this surgery last year and i watch this video the day before the procedure, i was having shortness of breath and chest pains and random popping when working out, the pain is no problem really easy to deal with, i now feel great and my chest looks amazing my pecs are great aswell, i regretted doing the surgery the week after but now i am appriciative, the only thing i regret is the scars are right below my nipples so it looks like i had boob implants!! lol

  • @pollozz1

hey whats up man, did any problems come out with the military becuase of the surgery you had, or is this no problem at all for the military? I really want to join the military but i think i might have to get the nuss procedure becuase i have been having chest pain. did you already join?

  • @Lakers3315 - Check the Modified Ravitch technique before going under. I read everything online before I went in and did not know about it until close to the time I went in. I have a video of my whole surgery.

  • This video is nice, but in all honesty I am still much happier to have had the Ravitch technique done one myself. Going back in for several years, then having to worry that my chest will go back to the way it was is just too much of a pain. I am only 30 days post op from my modified Ravitch surgery and already feel great.

For those of you that are considering the Nuss method, you may want to first watch the video of my surgery to compare.

  • How much school would you miss after this opertaion?

  • @JusticeIsTheBest ihad it done. 3 months of recoop, no working out and stuff, i had it 3 weeks ago, right at beginning of summer so i had the whole to be fine

  • Will drinking lots of skim milk make the nuss procedure and recovery less painful? Does the calcium make the bones less brittle? Would it be a good idea to drink a glass of skim milk every day for 2 months before the surgeory. And how big of a difference would it be opposed to drinking no milk?

  • However, if you pectus is not very deep (I would say about less than 2 cm), I wouldn't suggest doing it unless accept the pain that comes with it. Anyways, I hope this helped some people and gave some confidence in this procedure. If you have ANY question, I will do my best to answer it. ^_^

    Cheers to all,

    Go Pectus! : D

  • 2. Depression and regret that I did the surgery. (Lasted about 4 - 5 days for me I think)

    3. Out of the hospital!

    4. Recovery at home and slowly getting more accustomed to everything and reducing painkillers until no more are taken

Final words: I think that anyone will a rather deep pectus excavatum should do it even if they are scared. It is a very safe procedure and although there is a good amount of pain, the pain goes away and you'll be extremely happy.

  • One of the best days is when you leave the hospital because you are finally out of there.

Lastly, you will recover in every day life and move quicker, more stable, and become accustomed to your new, ironman like body. Haha. I had pain until about 4- 6 months after the surgery but the last month was mild pain, which usually only occured when I was in a certain position.

So, to sum up how I've experienced the surgery:

    1. Pain and happiness that my chest looks normal

  • HOWEVER, you should be able to move around at a decent pace after about 1 week and will see improvements. The pain will still be there and may be more intense on some days than others but you are getting pain medication to help with that.

I was in the hospital for longer than expected and spent 17 days there. If you stay there a while it may still depress you a little because you are around sick/injured people all the time and you just want to get out into the world.

  • Then you'll come to the regular station during which your painkiller does will be slightly reduced and these may be some of the most painful days. It really sucks because you can't move that well, you may not sleep well, you are in pain...During this stage I became slightly "depressed" and regretted doing the surgery. Another two people I talked to in the hospital experienced the same thing so it doesn't seem to out of the ordinary.

  • For all the people that are scared:

I've had this surgery done and it has been about a year since I got the bars out. I am happy with the results. Now, this is the usual trend after the surgery that I've seen with myself and other people:

You may be in intensive care the first 2 - 3 days during, which you will be quite bored and hopefully there is a TV in your room. You will feel pain but if it get too much you just use the pump to increase the dose of painkiller.

  • I had this done twice, and I still have a dent in my chest. However, it a lot less severe so it was worth it somewhat.

  • is this avalible in the UK?

  • Dear God I want it done.

  • just a couple days ago, my chest got heavy and i could feel my heart beat like a freakin machine. I was short of breath. I think im gonna get the nuss procedure done. Is it painful?? im kinda scared haha. Nobody has died from operation have they? I wanna get the operation done. But me thinking about the worse that could happen is stopping me from making an appointment. Ive always been healthy and i have never had to go to the hospital. Pls let me know how the operation went for you

  • @beermang2 after the surguery the pain is pretty low, this increases pretty slowly, if the pain is too extreme for you, they have morphine that you can pump into your self, (i'd say 4 pushes of the button before you cant push anymore).

for me the pain was at a 7/10 for about a month.

3 months later you can do anything you could before the surguery.

im 7 months on and my chest is still numb, and i no longer suffur from pain and im back to my normal life.

    I highly recommend this.

  • what would happend if someone puched you

  • I Have recently had the nuss procedure done. no it doesnt suck i had a severe case the deepest point was the mid point of my sternum and it was 3.4 inches deep. i had to have 2 bars placed. your in hospital for 5 to 7 days and then u can go home. your on pain killers for about 4 weeks then your off them. your limited to walking only for excersice until after 3 months. if anyone has any further questions or even queries about costs? feel free to ask me about my experience

  • @SophiaRubyRs Hi! Well I have a question.... How does it feel when you awake up? Is it so painfull that you just start to cry and things lke that? Discribe the pain please, that´s what I want xD

  • @SophiaRubyRs how much does it cost? i have absolutely no insurance ... i mean i do have insurance in my country but they're not too experienced in this procedure here and i don't want to risk it... i'd fly over to the us and have it done and pay for it myself, but i'd like to know what the cost is

  • @SophiaRubyRs Hi, how long ago have you had the operation done? Does it still hurt? Do you have any complication or are you limited in any way compared to before? thanks

  • fucccck that , i was gonna go docter today but never mind...

  • @leythz do it . some people have died from not having this corrected and no one has ever died from this operation.

  • Nuss procedure sux, is for low deformations and symmetric body. For high deformations and asymmetrical body is recomanded Stratos procedure and Ravitch(the old one).

  • I just had that bar removed, 2years after it was inserted, its not so bad as some might think, at least my chest now looks normal.

  • @dooviss What did you mean by "not so bad...at least my chest now looks normal"? Does it mean that even after 2 years you're still feeling pain or something? I'm now considering this operation but I'm kind of scared to be honest.

  • I have a very small dent in the middle of my chest which is hard to build muscle around.I don't have any of the symptoms and only some people notice it. Should i consider this pectus excavatum?

  • If it's that minor, then the procedure is strictly cosmetic.

  • @roxgod666 exactly what i have.. my doctor said it doesn't affect my breathing so it's pointless to do a surgury of that sort. But i care about the appearance.. I hit the gym everyday and my arms are beast. But because of pectus excavatum my 6 pack isn't visible and from the side it looks bad. I don't know going to places .. for ex.. the beach is kinda hard

  • how much does surgery cost? i live in australia and i want to know how much the average cost for surgery is

  • My friend gots this but i don't know shit about it, is it deadly?

  • It can be. If it goes in too deep, than it can impair heart and lung functions, which can ultimately impair brain functions as well.

  • Does anybody know if the NHS in Uk would cover this procedure? And if it doesn't how much would it cost? Thanks

  • @ShortyRulezzz I got it for free in the UK, but i imagine it does depend on the severity and the surgeon.

  • @mattyT122 I wish healthcare was free in America. It sucks here.

  • I have it I am getting my bar removed march 16 at childern's it been in me 4 3 years

  • do you know its bether to do this operation when your young like i was 14 when i did this and intmidenntly it was gone still must have it 2-3 years

its not painfull only when you old like 30-40

  • i know a kid who has this

  • wow talking about money i have it and i have to live with it. i live in a ghetto lol...

  • ich habe die op hinter mir ist nicht gudd also am anfang kann mann sich nihct befegen aber dann gehts

  • i realy wanna get this done my cheast sticks out.... im 18 and i been seeing that it costs 30k to 40k if so i will never be able to get it done since i do not have insurance but i saw a comment here that said they only paid like 7k if so i will do it can anyone tell me how much it costs exactly? i have no insurance but i would be happy to make payments

  • pectus excavatum is when ur chest is sunkin in and the chest stick out is chest carnitum but u do not need surgery if u have excavatum first surgery is dangerous , scary , and costs alot but u can do pectus excavatum "repair" its when u exercise and its really better then surgery pm me if u wana talk about it cause surgery is basically a last resort

  • If anyone has any questions about this surgery, please message me. I had it done about 2 years ago, and would be happy to help out anyone thinking about it.

  • @bbrainmonkey hi i am want to get this procedure my chest sticks out and it can get fixed with the nuss procedure but what i need to know is how much would it cost? and could i make payments

  • how much does an operation like this cost?

  • I believe without insurance it can be upwards of $20,000. But I had insurance, so all I had to pay was $600.

  • he alles come from usa can you speak german =) i have this problem =(

  • @Wollekimmig ich spreche ein bisschen deutsch. hast du pectus excavatum?

  • thanks for the video man! 5/5!

  • I do believe This PE can cause scoliosis to.

  • I think so! I am 25 years old and I have PE. I had my scoliosis surgery when I was thirteen years old. Now, I want to have the nuss procedure done my on my chest.

  • i got this. and once the time to get the bar taken out came. they couldnt take it out. -sigh-

  • what?

  • what ended up happening besides the obvious?
