All parents can make some better judgement errors, even really loving parents. i will say this though; the father should've been making periodic checks on the child. She should pay particular attention to a child's skin. If he forgot to put on sunblock and the child's skin is getting red, he should've goten the child indoors to cool off.

I'm not versed in Kentucky law, but I believe there is a level intent for an abuse charge. He has to intend to cause harm. They could pursue a neglect charge, but that is completely different and his right against double jeopardy may have already kicked in by the time the arrest was made.

I am only going to say this. My kids have played outside at 2 years old for longer than 90 minutes and they have not ended up with blisters like that. I have a feeling it was longer than 90 minutes and the dad probobly fell asleep or something and didn't realize that the kid had wandered outside.

No charges should have been filed. The dad probably couldn't even see that well without sunglasses, so of course he didn't notice. The mother prolbably noticed when she took him into the house to get dressed, but seriously... what did the dad do? He did not intend to burn his son. This was something that was indirect.

first of all none of those are or can be 3rd degree burns, they are bad 2nd degree burns however and yes I agree the dad should have put sunscreen, or a shirt on him. But the Police have no right to arrest someone for this. Mistakes are made , as a father Im sure he feels bad enough. But the mother clearly is just Sore about the relationship so like very often happens she uses the Police as the Tools they are.....no pun intended.

This was a 2 yr old, a baby really, the father should have had sense enough to know better. The child was burned pretty badly and was too young to do anything for himself. I guess the father is just basically incompetent.
Kids do get sunburned all the time yes, but with a baby you have to be very careful.

Jail seems an over reaction, but all parents should be required to put sun screen on children. Not only is there the risk of sun burn but skin cancer as well. They make baby suntan lotion too. My Son who is almost 9m gets it on when we go out. White t's don't absorb heat but as a construction worker I know you can get sunburned through them.

They crincle and develop brown spots at first but when the leaves fall the new leaves that grow out after a while will not be harmed by the sun.

How long does it take for blisters and redness to show? Would the skin have been acutely red skin after 90 minutes? I seriously doubt it. Would the redness and blisters need the amount of time it took for the mother to get home? Probably. Is this guy guilty? No, just ignorant. And that's mostly the mother's fault for not warning him. I am only going to say this. My kids have played outside at 2 years old for longer than 90 minutes and they have not ended up with blisters like that. I have a feeling it was longer than 90 minutes and the dad probobly fell asleep or something and didn't realize that the kid had wandered outside.
