@INSULTINGKLOWN I see where you are coming from but I need to point out something. Terms change meaning over time and distances. For example "gay" used to mean "happy", now it means "homosexual". "Otaku" in the western world has moved from its original Japanese meaning and now refers more broadly to people who are very much into this kinda stuff. So actually they kinda are right in calling themselves Otakus.

It's always been like that, we don't want to change our own culture but rather decorate it with things inspired by other cultures. Some things will stick around in the long run and some won't. It's how it works, cultures are fundamentally about processes and change, not a static set of traditions and meanings.
