my xr250l doesnt run quite right. it cant start without full choke and takes like 10 minutes to warmup to ride without choke. it bogs out with any throttle movement at less than half choke in that first 10 minutes. I just bought the bike so i think carb just might be dirty. I really only know how to clean simple from the 70's bikes and this carb looks complicated haha. Any tips?
@Codyp1814 XR carbs are just like anything you'd find from the 70s! Tips: take the carb off the bike, open the float bowl and give everything in there a good cleaning. Blow air through all the passages. Make sure the float valve isn't sticking or anything. I'll bet the jets are just a little clogged up. If they were badly clogged, it wouldn't run worth a crap. I deal with that a lot when I'm fixing bikes. It is almost always clogged jets.
@frickinjim i cleaned the carb finally and it starts easier ( had to adjust the pilot screw a little) but still bogs with a fast movement of throttle. I have to ease it everytime to get to a higher rpm. Now im really stumped haha. Any ideas? Thanks.
@Codyp1814 Maybe the float isn't allowing a high enough fuel level. Just check that it's moving smoothly and that the whole float valve is super super clean. If that doesn't work then try moving the slide needle all the way up to the richest position and see what change that makes.
@Codyp1814 It could probably be a simple thing. Sometimes tiny bits of dust gets into the fuel line then into the carby. just simply wash out the pilot screws and carby with a carburetor cleaner and it should be fine. It happened to me when my bike was just 5 months old.

@harryballs95 I would give the carb a good cleaning first. If it ran good at one point, it probably degraded just from getting dirty. My other video shows how to take the carb apart. Do that, then soak the thing in carb cleaner and gently clean it with a pick and small brush. Clean all the passages that you can get to using thin wire. That should do the trick!

Ok so I think my pilot thing is lean because it backfires like u said in the vid is this bad or can I just leave it alone?
Gman200108 2 months ago
@Gman200108 I'd try to fix it. It's not like a lean pilot is going to melt your piston, but having a lean pilot sure is super annoying.

@frickinjim Yeah it is annoying because im engine braking down the hill after going past and all i hear in BOOM POW POP POP POW vrooom POW. lol
Gman200108 2 months ago
@Gman200108 Hahaha. Up a size on the pilot for sure.

@harryballs95 Also make sure you aren't running old gas. Get some fresh gasoline in there after you clean her out.
