Well, this is pretty quirky. When you have a captive audience in a movie theater, they'll just sit and watch for a few minutes in between other films - which is where this was originally shown.
I must say that the range of Beetle colors was not the most vibrant at that point. Not much of a palette range. Of course this film has likely faded somewhat in the last 50+ years, too.
Was this really a commercial?.... seems a little long for being just a mere commercial...Maybe it was a series of commercials that ran in segments, telling as story along the way?
It's interesting to compare this (likely French) European ad to the North American VW Bug ads which stressed the car's practicality, quality and durability, rather than looks and colours
VW Bugs in creepyland with the whole gang of artsy fartsy dumb previous owners. The next episode shows them removing the thermostat, and oil bath filter assembly and not greasing the front beam.
Great post-WWII commercial! ... Dancing Pallet -- most certainly! ... What a smart move to produce it mute for the international market (needed no dubbing) ... The message is clear: VW has the most versatile color choices ... To each their own ... Beautiful! ... Cheers, Julia from Florida
Those crazy Germans! Haha...With this type of silly advertising it's no wonder they couldn't sell National socialism to the rest of the world. Now with a proper ad campaign that we could readily identify with and enjoy; we'd all be speaking German! Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
I cannot make my mind wich colour I like the best, probably the dark blue one, and the green one. Or probably the white one, and the red one, oH, no wait, I also like the light blue one. They are a piece of art.
God they were so beautiful...you didn't want to drive them... you wanted just to look at them and protect them from getting old...what a great commercial...just as I feel about them THEY ARE WORKS OF ART!!!
I think it says that there is a beetle for everyone...

Reminds me of a line from Repo Man: "Do a lot of acid, Bill? Back in the hippie days?"

Heh, they are attractive cars.
My beetle is old, rusty and dented but sometimes I still just stare at it to take in the beauty.
Kinda funny considering who designed the exterior.
TheIDCLeader 3 years ago
who do you think designed it? please don't say hitler.
taylerXnicoleisyummy 2 years ago
Freinderland Porsche designed the engine and the original prototype, Hitler re-designed the exterior because Porsche's design was absolutely hideous.

Where do you keep finding these ads? They're amazing and I thought I was crazy about VW's
Dave001976 4 years ago
Well, some beople buy the DVD and send back DVD's with commercials on it. I even received a VHS tape! Once in a while I compile a new DVD.
I must admit it becomes harder to find commercials I don't already have!
