was a dog person until 8 years ago now i have two persian and a bengal that is a real troubble maker when it comes to funiture and climbing but a loving and real fun cat that always ready for some fun :)
I have a 7 wk old bengal boy and he meows while he is eating. he even talks when he is doing #1 or #2 and you can tell which one hes doing by the way he meow. lol. i will post videos soon.
mine stopped making these noises when he eats, hes like 8 months .. it sucks cause everyone that got to see it found it unbelievable, mine would go "la la la la la" really loud lol
my street kitten i took in a couple months back when i found her in my trash dying does the same thing. she always growls when she eats. i think it a warning to others to not touch their food.
LOl, my cat does that. It's when she cries when she's eating, she can't do it properly since shes eating. Just like humans talking with our mouths full!
had me a kitten who made the same sounds while eating, he was a gorgeous cross-breed. I always thought ,since i had two other cats, that the sound meant "stay away", cuz the other ones did not go near him, and he was the smallest in the pack, and out-weighed by the biggest one by a good 8Kg (16lbs). word to the wise, don't get ur fingers between this one and his food, just in case:D
I think cats just make the noises they like, when they like! :)
My kitten learned how to growl and whenever he has something in his mouth, he'll growl and hiss. Not angrily, just for the fun of it!
He's a rotter though. He can ONLY growl if he has something in his mouth so when we gave him and our other cats a little bit of beef each, he picked his up and growled at our other cat, scaring him away. Even funnier, he didn't even want his meat, he was just being mean! :P
I just wanted to add that the reason they make this noise is not because they are being protective. It's because they are saying thanks. Both the bengals I had (F1 brother and sister) used to do this, and they would often take their head from the bowl, look at me with those adorable eyes and make the noise. Usually resulting in the food dropping from their mouthes.LOL
My F1 bengal used to do this too, but he didn't stop. And the older he got the more loud it became. Funny, even after four years I still sat and found it hilarious.
You know, this is actually one of my favorite 'mundane' videos on Youtube. It's so cute to see your kitty indulge like that in it's food. Yeah she's not mad that he's getting too close, that sound just means she *REALLY* likes it. It looks like she's eating raw hamburger from here, and I'm sure she'll be occupied for a while :)
itis crazy how alike the bengal breed is, my kitten does this same thing, and i always thought he was mad at me for getting too close, this is good news, thanks
My hypothesis: maybe cats do this to "protect" their food. I work with cats and some growl/yowl when their food bowl is touched, similar to dogs guarding their kibble.
My ordinary Norwegian house cats protects his food like that too. Especially if there's another cat around, and he gets something really nice to eat - like fish og crab, that he does not want to share.
MY friend had a Bengal bayby, man he did not like female anythings, but got along with dogs. I am waiting for the Toyger though, they look so cute..a new genetic breed, housecat sized tigers. Thanks for sharing !
full domestic cats don't do that anymore, but some cats that were raised in the streets or in the woods do that sound when eating, specially when they are eating meat.
That sound means that they don't want to share their food and that they concider you a threat because you are too close and they think you may steal their food
Sounds like the little Kitty is telling the others in the litter to stay away, he seems to be worried that he will not get any food. Wish that he was mine!
I still laugh whenever I hear your cat eating. What in the heck goes thru their little minds?
In our paper, I saw an ad for a Bengal for $300, which I thought was kind of inexpensive, but good. The owner was registered with the TCIF (?). Also, I am now confused because I thought that we could only get F4's. One more question, please. Do you have other cats? I have two. We just had to put down our 21 yr old, which was just too sad.
Those last 2 noises were beyond pathetic! LOL

For all the Bengal cat owners, did they cost around $500? I sure want a kitten, too. But then, again, they need to stay with mama for about 12 wks.

I would say $600 is average.
Ebi was $1250 since she is an F-1

I still laugh whenever I hear your cat eating. What in the heck goes thru their little minds?
In our paper, I saw an ad for a Bengal for $300, which I thought was kind of inexpensive, but good. The owner was registered with the TCIF (?). Also, I am now confused because I thought that we could only get F4's. One more question, please. Do you have other cats? I have two. We just had to put down our 21 yr old, which was just too sad.
janetlw 4 years ago
I imagine this is what goes through their heads: "food...mine....mine, food....food...mine...mine...MINE"
Pillowchii 4 years ago 3
$300 sounds a little cheap...The two places they should be registered are TICA and TIBCS.
F4's is when the cat becomes a "bengal" Ebi is technically a foundation cat since she has over 50% wild blood.
We have another cat who is 7 , she is a bengal/tabby mix. They get along great now. IT just took some time.
