I think it comes down to what you want. If you want to have space for people in the back and have a more comfortable ride the Audis the way to go. If you want to bring it to the track the m3 is the way to go. I personally think unless you are a track nut then the m3 doesn't make sense to own as a daily driver (unless you think the extra performance and lady-killing abilities of the M3 are worth spending a lot more on insurance, gas and maintenance).
My friend has an S4 and I raced him in a loaner 335i when my 328i was being serviced, and from 0-60 he smoked me. My friend raced someone last night with a 335i w/ a PROcede chip and an intake- and the 335i won.
It's not all about drag racing and top end speeds. I've never seen a track that involves just straight away racing, at least professionally. Take these two cars to a real track with turning involved and the BMW would come out on top. But you can't compare an S4 to an M3, they are two very different cars- maybe a 335i vs S4.
@pgr0104 MTM ecu tune and catback give you 430 hp and 360 tq. APR stage 2+ which includes an ecu tune, upgraded s/c pulley, intake and exhaust gets you 390 hp and 377 tq. Although I am not one hundred percent whether MTM is measuring at the wheels I think they are. If they are measuring from the wheels and the power curves are smooth then in a high rpm race like this then MTM should actually be faster than APR.
Does that S4 have stock exhaust? It sounds pretty good from 0:10... I don't remember it sounds so good at test drives but maybe I didn't push hard enough.
Let's also not forget that the M line NA engines are way better than the Audi's NA engines. TBH, even the R8 isn't all that impressive in terms of performance. Sure, magazines and the media hyped it up. So I already don't understand how the R8 puts BMW to shame. $115k starting price (base) for a 420 HP R8. Wow!!! Wait, is it me or did the numbers come close to the E9x M3's? So what's so special about the R8? The wide body? Or because it was featured in Iron Man? Look into the 2012 M5's specs...
M3 isn't all about power, if you've actually driven one you'd understand what I meant. It's a track car and it'll make turns better than the S4 any day. The M has had a reputation for like 30 years. Sure, the turbocharger or supercharger on the S4 will give it a torque advantage over the M3 but once you get past 40/50 MPH, the M will go smoke you.
But regardless, a better comparison would be the 335i vs the S4 rather than M3 vs S4.

My uncles stock motor with ko4s, miltek exhaust, and a tune made 530whp with 611wtq. It ran 11.7 in the 1/4 and I've been in it when the gps verified 191mph on the jersey turn pike lol.
I believe this race was taken from the 40mph range, so yea, imagine it was taken from a stop...
The S4 also has a sports rear diff which is much more advanced than anything BMW has to compete with it. The S4 will beat the 335i in any aspect (drag or track). The M3 is a 10k+ more expensive car than the S4 so comparing a chipped S4 with exhaust and intake to an M3 is still kind of lopsided. Regardless this video says a lot more about Audi than BMW. Well that's interesting. This essentially proves my hypotheses that my 2010 S4 is better than my brothers' 2010 M3 ..... lol. The M3 didnt take over until the very end... and frankly that isnt going to make a difference in street driving. The only reason M3 won in the end is because S4 got permanent AWD. It's great on curves, on rain, on snow... but it sucks at high speeds in a straight line.
Theoretically, that Audi should destroy that BMW. An MTM Audi is not the same as a regular Audi. A lightly moded B8 S4 that consists of an ECU remap and an exhaust should hit close to 430 HP and close to 390 TQ. So from a dead stop that Audi should annihilate the M3.

mtm ecru doesn't do too much! they s4's are very underrated from the factory, and a lot of ecu tuners were claiming big gains when in fact the car put down a lot much whp stock, so their "claimed" gains were more or less BS. they didn't offer as much as they advertised b/c the engine was already putting down so much stock!
That's right VAG is notorious for under promising and over delivering. Been doing it for years with VW and Audi. But they're not the only ones. A lot of manufacturers do these days.

Got to say Audi wins that even if it is only by a car length or 2. The BMW is a 4.0ltr V8 so that means it has 1ltr higher cubic capacity and 2 cyclinders more regardless of the Audi having 10bhp more since it is tuned. It's still in the same class and power range is very similar, I suppose it's about time Audi win against BMW for once with the Super Saloons.

M3 with DCT would have held its own better in the beginning and been further ahead at the end, and on the track .........different class. M3 is not a drag racer but it still won in the only area the S4 stood a chance. Spend the same cash on the M3 as the MTM tune costs for the S4 and the difference would be even greater.
MTM S4 did amazingly well though and in a drag race would beat the RS4 without a doubt.
I got news for you fellow Audi fans - these sedans are not snow cars. I say, from disappointing personal experience, that they do not have the ground clearance to get through anything more than 6 inches or so. They can't handle serious snowfall. So if you live in snow country, buy a high-clearance truck or SUV. Or a Subaru Outback, which will kick an Audi sedan's ass with its 9 inches of clearance.
That's exactly what I said - Audi gives more for the money. Even with the mods the BMW is 30% more $. And what do you get for that? A little bit of top end a touch better handling (nothing that makes a real difference on the street). They are both great, but imo Audi has done a fantastic job by offering this level of quality and performance at the price point .

Euhm it's a tuned V6. It's direct competitor is the 335I which the S4 already smoked, even in saloms or acceleration. Besides this is a heavyweight sedan while the M3 is a lightweight carbon fibre coupé with a bigger engine. Let's just wait for the new RS4/RS5 & see who gets the last laugh, shall we?
There is no new RS4. Current model A4/S4, the B8, will have no RS4 variant. There is talk of the next RS4 being for the B9 variant. Instead of an RS4, they will be manufacturing an RS5, which, very well might be able to walk M5's and 6's.

the kit has 2 boxes to install, if you get the speed limiter delete..and there is only room for the single box inside the casing where the instal goes. To put the speed limiter delete on, one would have to instal the box somewhere under the hood. Not to mention it costs 900 dollars more.....Until i see proof...I bet there was a 155 mph limiter in effect there.

Very good for the tuned S4, but still the AWD kills it. Look at 33 seconds and you see the M3 start cruising and eventually pass the S4 with ease. Im sure with full back exhaust, it will help the S4. B8 S4 is the best S4 so far.

With regards to tuning this 3.0v6 supercharged is amazing, mtm already have a chip to bring it up to 433BHP, check it out. Also though the 335i is amazing and also extremely tuneable, mainly because you can just remap the turbos so easily, same thing applys with the supercharger on the audi, both amazing cars in their own right

Even the the S4 has a couple more HP than the M3, the M3 is still a much lighter car than the S4…keep that in mind as well.

The S4 also has a sports rear diff which is much more advanced than anything BMW has to compete with it. The S4 will beat the 335i in any aspect (drag or track). The M3 is a 10k+ more expensive car than the S4 so comparing a chipped S4 with exhaust and intake to an M3 is still kind of lopsided. Regardless this video says a lot more about Audi than BMW. Doesn't change the fact that you can't compare an s4 to an m3. Completely different cars. one is a coupe, one is a sedan, v6 vs v8 and as you said. I don't get why u r arguing? if the m3 had the ess supercharger the s4 would be way behind, and both were stock the s4 wouldn't stand a chance. my stock 335i goes head to head with the stock s4

Well that's interesting. This essentially proves my hypotheses that my 2010 S4 is better than my brothers' 2010 M3 ..... lol. The M3 didnt take over until the very end... and frankly that isnt going to make a difference in street driving. The M3 is a more competent car around the track, but I dont really care since, well, I dont drive the car on the track. Theoretically, that Audi should destroy that BMW. An MTM Audi is not the same as a regular Audi. A lightly moded B8 S4 that consists of an ECU remap and an exhaust should hit close to 430 HP and close to 390 TQ. So from a dead stop that Audi should annihilate the M3.

Got to say Audi wins that even if it is only by a car length or 2. The BMW is a 4.0ltr V8 so that means it has 1ltr higher cubic capacity and 2 cyclinders more regardless of the Audi having 10bhp more since it is tuned. It's still in the same class and power range is very similar, I suppose it's about time Audi win against BMW for once with the Super Saloons.

M3 with DCT would have held its own better in the beginning and been further ahead at the end, and on the track .........different class. M3 is not a drag racer but it still won in the only area the S4 stood a chance. Spend the same cash on the M3 as the MTM tune costs for the S4 and the difference would be even greater.
MTM S4 did amazingly well though and in a drag race would beat the RS4 without a doubt.

I got news for you fellow Audi fans - these sedans are not snow cars. I say, from disappointing personal experience, that they do not have the ground clearance to get through anything more than 6 inches or so. They can't handle serious snowfall. So if you live in snow country, buy a high-clearance truck or SUV. Or a Subaru Outback, which will kick an Audi sedan's ass with its 9 inches of clearance.

That's exactly what I said - Audi gives more for the money. Even with the mods the BMW is 30% more $. And what do you get for that? A little bit of top end a touch better handling (nothing that makes a real difference on the street). They are both great, but imo Audi has done a fantastic job by offering this level of quality and performance at the price point .

Wrong. Audi is just a Skoda with different badge on it. What you get in BMW, is a great and epic N/A V8 with huge power and responsives, M3 is truly unique car without that understeer that audi provides. Turbocharged 3.0 V6 is such a booring engine compared to highly reving high tech V8 with a huge grunt. Audi is a lot cheaper, cos its not really even a competitor for the M3.

@miksirikoitsen just so you know, i have a 2.7t audi a6 and it is pushing 470 bhp, it has the k04 tubos upgrades and other stage 3 parts but it does 0-60 in just under 4 sec, that proves that small turbo engines are great if you spend the time and money to tune them properly, my a6 would destroy any m3 and it probly cost me 20-30k less even with the stage 3 parts than it would to buy a m3..... audi is the shit and you know it.. best modifiable cars on the market imo.....

So what? BMW, Audi, Mercedes are the Premium brands, so they're all expensive... by the way - you get the best you can have on the market if you buy one of these cars.

I agree that they are the best, but Audi is offering similar performance and luxury at a far lower cost. IMO the S4 is not really expensive - it is similar in price to a loaded Lexus IS350. In my books that is worth something. BTW Mercedes rode through the late '90s and 2000's on it's reputation and needs to reprove itself. BMW and Audi on the other hand have been innovative and have provided quality products at a good price.

Nope, it should not - if you have enough money to get such car you have to know that the addons will be expensive. From the beginning you get the best what you can, so it have to be expensive.

Euhm it's a tuned V6. It's direct competitor is the 335I which the S4 already smoked, even in saloms or acceleration. Besides this is a heavyweight sedan while the M3 is a lightweight carbon fibre coupé with a bigger engine. Let's just wait for the new RS4/RS5 & see who gets the last laugh, shall we?

There is no new RS4. Current model A4/S4, the B8, will have no RS4 variant. There is talk of the next RS4 being for the B9 variant. Instead of an RS4, they will be manufacturing an RS5, which, very well might be able to walk M5's and 6's.

To all the ppl that complain that the race was unfair: the only reason that s4 lost is that the audi has a 20% parasitic drivetrain loss while the m3 has a 8% i think.simply the bimmer puts more hp on the road thats why its catching up at the end,the audi got an early lead because of the 4 wheel drive system , its simple maths!

the kit has 2 boxes to install, if you get the speed limiter delete..and there is only room for the single box inside the casing where the instal goes. To put the speed limiter delete on, one would have to instal the box somewhere under the hood. Not to mention it costs 900 dollars more.....Until i see proof...I bet there was a 155 mph limiter in effect there.

Very good for the tuned S4, but still the AWD kills it. Look at 33 seconds and you see the M3 start cruising and eventually pass the S4 with ease. Im sure with full back exhaust, it will help the S4. B8 S4 is the best S4 so far.

Ja das ja normal das S4 mit 430 PS schneller ist bis 250kmh Original hat er 333 PS und so kannst du nicht mit M3 verglichein . Der S4 Original hat keine chance nicht ein mal RS4

With regards to tuning this 3.0v6 supercharged is amazing, mtm already have a chip to bring it up to 433BHP, check it out. Also though the 335i is amazing and also extremely tuneable, mainly because you can just remap the turbos so easily, same thing applys with the supercharger on the audi, both amazing cars in their own right

But then again, you don't compare the M3 to the S4, stock or not. It's the RS vs. M's to make it fair.
Also, this is a tuned 3.0T V6 vs. the m3's v8. I think it kept up with the M3 pretty good being tuned and having less cylinders.

Compare it with a tuned 335i(JB3 or vishnu V3) for about the same amount of hp, 3.0 liter inline 6 and you will see the difference

Bone stock, the newer 3.0T S4 is marginally better over a 335i. You think a tuned 335i can beat this MTM-tuned S4 if it hangs with an M3? Maybe because of it's weight, I dunno.

a tuned 335 walks a tuned e92 m3 harder than this s4 walked this m3, thats if you call this "walking" any ways because it looked like the m3 launched later.

@overdrive90 : "a tuned 335". What state of tune are you referring to? If you are referring to Stage 1 (software only like the MTM S4) then I 'd like to see the evidence of that. If you are referring to > Stage 1 then your comparison is meaningless.

the 335 even had some problems, so it wasn't running at 100%. But I'm not trying to bash the M3 as I love the M3 more than the 335. I'm just saying that a tune only S4 can't beat a tune only 335.
I'm surprised there aren't any tuned 335 vs tuned S4 videos out there!
