Stop bagging on him.. he took roids to get stronger to hit homers. The roids dont help you see the ball better, so he still has to time out the swings and place them. Yeah, he cheated with power, but everything else was legit. But i agree with others.. if he never took roids he woulda never gotten that many homers.. 600 tops, also, he wouldn't of had to retire then, and coulda broken the rbi record.

Hey Dumbass Dont compare Ruth to Bonds ..its a joke. Ruth was hitting deadballs in huge ball parks, Yankee stadium had a wall in centerfield over 455 feet from home plate. And Ruth was drunk or hung over at the plate half the time. Bonds would have hit about 400 homeruns without his HGH and Clear. Every generation has a change or evolution. For us baseball will forever be characterized as the steroid era, which by the way, steroids were used by more than just big leagues. Ask around....I know plenty of high school/college/ and minor league players that were juicing during the 90's and into the 2000's.

Answer me this....was it cheating, or magical that the so called "golden age" of baseball used harder wood to make bats?

What a disgrace to the game. It was a bunch of fake "magic" that night, the true feeling was missing, which would have been there had it been done fair and square. I'm not trying to take from Barry, in my opinion he's in the top 25 all around baseball players of all time. Unbelievable talent. But he cheated, for a number of years, and this record should not count. Thank god the madness is over and baseball seems to be moving on again.

@ohwello Ruth played against a relatively small population of ball players based upon the northeastern US white population. Bonds played against the worlds best. That is more impressive by far. Plus Ruth could hit pop-ups over that joke for a right field wall at Yankee stadium at a mere 295 ft. when it first opened. Hell I would be bombing them outa there. Bonds played in one of the most pitcher friendly parks today. He needed every bit of those roids to hit it in the drink.

Why are "greenies" illegal? Is it because they enhance muscular indurance or because it caused hear attacks and medical problems. Greenies were used for hang overs and to fight off sleep problems.

It was NOT used for hitting more homeruns and getting stronger.

Steriods may have been legal, but with that said, how come all players lied about it? How come they didnt say, YEA Im on steriods. Its legal. BUT they didnt, cause they knew it was morally wrong!
