  • I realize that, thanks; I have other versions; but I really like this one and would like the DVD.

  • @jgc5681 good luck! hah. i don t believe this is on dvd anywhere; probably a vhs or a recording from t.v.

  • Love all of these videos, "La ci darem la mano" and others. It is possible find the complete Opera? Please let me know.

  • @jgc5681 under the profile of this user elias12186, you can find the complete opera.

  • la traduzione e' oscena...furlanetto e' intoccabile...

  • Have you ever tried to sing the second "vhan contesse baronesse...d'ogni eta" ? I needed 20 good minutes to get something decent.

  • Danke, habe Link gesetzt

  • grande leporello!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ah he's just playing with her. so brilliantly cruel he's the best leporello I've seen yet: a cowardly don giovanni without the money or status. anyone seen any better?

  • I can't really decide who I love more - Ramey or Furlanetto....

But I think it's still Ramey....!

    Just wonderful.....

  • es un capo!!! literalmente es majestuoso es RE que da!!!

  • I've always preferred the Mozart method to opera; great aria after great aria after great aria. No gimmicks, no tricks, no mediocrity. Just perfection in motion.

  • some soprano chorister is singing the wrong notes.

  • Best Leporello ever!

  • Great interpretation

  • fantastico non c'è nulla da dire

  • This clip and performance introduced me to, and taught me to appreciate opera.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I agree with several others...the translation stinks. Ferruccio is great.

  • Those responsible for the subtitles should get sacked and replaced by swedish translators.

  • @Pharnabaze I see what you did there.

  • @entropyftw Always nice to see someone who appreciates the classics.

  • MOZART = GOD

  • @donzaukerr this is too much for me!

  • Didn't he also play Don Giovanni?

  • @ktrum492 yes, he did.

  • The translation is awful! It gets it wrong in several points :S

  • Excellent

  • the english traduction ia awful but Ferruccio is great

  • awesome...Mozart was the best !!

Ferruccio sings very good and also plays his role as Leporello very nice

  • Why is leporello a basso buffo? I looked at the score and there aren't any low notes a baritone couldn't easily sing. Even the low F he sings closer to the end was written as a middle F in the score...at least in the one I saw.

  • @adamskyb He has to hit lower scores during others parts of the opera.

But even if the range of an aria is the same for a baritone and a bass (or other tpyes of voices) then the composer may had thought that it sounds better when a bass sings that. There are many people who believe that the higer the pitch (and the voice type) the better. Well I am not one of them.

    Greetings

  • @spyridon77 Oh I know I was just curious. I like bass voices the best myself. In fact I wish I was a bass who could sing down to low C lol...but alas I'm a baritone, most likely a lyric. I just love the bass repertoir so much. Ah well

  • Lorenzo da Ponte was a great lyricist

  • @pepys1633 yes, he was.

  • i love furlanetto

  • Furlanetto has a beautiful voice, and sings with it beautifully...

  • very charming

  • Best Leporello (Furlanetto) + best director (Zefirelli) = MAGIC.

  • *Marvelous* acting on the part of Mattila and Furlanetto. Masetto is a cutie - so indignant!

  • Mozart was a real genius. Each time I watch this Opera I smile and have fun.

And Leporello - Ferruccio Furlanetto is the best I've ever heard!

  • I was Zerlina in this and it is just sooooo much fun. (especialy watching them work out the blocking for this aria)

  • Comment removed

  • I love Ferruccio Furlanetto... perfetto...

  • Does anyone know where I can buy this one on DVD? I like what I've seen of it but can't find it on amazon...

  • Many on youtube argue that Furlanetto's interpretations don't vary much from one performance to another. What do you think?

  • I think he keeps the performances in the same vein, but he does them better. I believe perfection should go unchanged.

  • I love how Ferruccio plays Leporello. In this aria he plays it so perfectly. He is just digging into her every nerve. Nobody beats him.

  • Great, perfect acting!!! Indeed the best Leporello!

  • I love Ferruccio Furlanetto. Srsly.

  • SRSLY.

  • Mozart's DaPonte operas are a perfect example of Opera in it's finest form.

  • This is really opera of all operas!

  • Definitely. All of Mozarts Vienna operas are in my top 10.

  • Correct - no other opera can compete with Don Giovanni - it is eternal.

Although I love nearly everything Mozart has created.

And Ferruccio is MY favourite Leporello.

  • What a comment! Congratulations! I agree !

  • oh my Lord....thanks to Mozart....

    for ever only Mozart,Mozart,Mozart............

  • marvellous <3

    Bravissimooooooooo*Grazie Da Ponte e Mozart !

    merciiiiiiii !

  • I think that he is the best Leporello ever!

And this is the most famous bass aria!

Only in 3:27 he could be a bit better. Actually, I have only seen (in youtube) Terfel to sing this part (3:26-3:29) to sing it perfectly.

5 stars ofcourse! And thank you elias for uploading a non-"rubbish modern Don Giovanni"!

  • when the singer sing at 4.00:"but his main passion is sated by the young and uninititiated" refer probably to mr Cav. Silvio Berlusconi, italian p.m.

  • I agree with you! ;-))

  • AGREE!!!!!!

  • Imaginary spankings at 3:22

  • reviwed a dozen. ramey is best overall.

  • ramey is vivacious. acting subsidiary to

    virtuoso singing. ars gratia artis.

  • Certified Intergalactic! Bravissimo Furlanetto!

  • giovinette ke fate l'amore ke fate l'amoreee nn lasciate ke passi l'età ke passi l'età ke passi l'età...

XD omaaa era tr bella farla...XD

aaah ahh ahh ke piacer ke piacer ke sarà lalalalala...XD tr fiquaaaa ahahaha mi sn divertita un botto!

  • Oh childish Masetto! I really love how this Zerlina and Masetto look and sound so well together! Their costumes and their voices entwined, whether in argument or agreement fit wonderfully!

  • And by the way, in the same production but later next year, Ramey is singing Leporello! How about that!

  • *shakes head* Can't imagine it either. His voice is too noble and dignified to make an appropriate Leporello. I heard Ramey singing "Madamina, il catalogo e questo" and it was like a pure-bred Dutch dog pretending (not very successfully) to be a mongrel. :)

  • Great Dane, I mean. I always mix up these dog-breeds.

  • Haha. On that note, have you (or has anyone) seen Furlanetto's Don Giovanni? I simply cannot imagine that, even though his voice is beautiful enough. I can't picture him without the Leporello-ish vulnerability and childlikeness...

  • Well, there is a "Don Carlos" video with him as King Philip of Spain. I haven't seen it myself but folks say he was great there, too. Even those who, like you, saw him only as Leporello.

  • Naw, I also saw his Guglielmo and Figaro, among others. But his Leporello was flawless!

  • He must be equally great as Figaro.

  • he is awsome as Figaro! :)

  • I can't imagine a better Leporello than Furlanetto. The man totally rocks. :)

  • D'Arcangelo is my favorite Leporello still singing the role, but Furlanetto was definitely something special. It was his best role, and in a totally different way than Ildebrando.
