The original recording is rather fuzzy. It was a miracle I was able to get it in color at all. Therefore, re-uploading it would probably not improve it
Wow! I remembered WRIC wasn't original but had forgotten it was WXEX. Thanks for the memory booster. Btw, is that Chuck Mangione in the sign off playing the trumpet?
Living here in the Richmond area, Channel 8 used to be in Petersburg. Today it's at the the Arberitum in Richmond. Thanks for this piece of Richmond (Virginia) TV nostalgia.
Wasn't WGHP off the air when this clip of WRIC (WXEX) was recorded, overnite in 1989? I used to live in the Triad as a kid, and remember 'GHP went off-air really late at night...but stopped doing so around 1990-91 ish.
I drive by their old petersburg location weekly. After WXEX's move to richmond, the building was used for a radio station (99.3 fm). Ironicly, I beleive the building is now by nationwide insurance. Can't remember if the tower is still there or not.
WRIC used an updated sign-off in April for maintenance. The graphics reflected the 1990 name change from WXEX, but still looked early 1990s. Aim High America is used in the version I am refering to as well. Thanks to Jawman for posting this piece of Richmond TV history!
Well, there is a PBS station at 23 Sesame Street in Richmond--WCVE-TV Channel 23. By the way, WXEX/WRIC is located now at 301 Arboretum Place in Richmond.
Interesting how the call letters are now WRIC, with the calls reflecting the city of RIChmond...yet the official station city of license is Petersburg. Hmmm.....
sign offs.... how quaint.. where is the circuit rider? hmmm

The re-encoding has messed with the video quality. Possible to re-upload?

How did you pull a signal from WXEX/WRIC when you have WGHP on channel 8 right in your backyard?

I have no idea... I have never lived anywhere in NC. It was just a curious observation on my part.

It's on Sesame Street! If it was a PBS station, that'd be funnier.
