@moephishron1 Hipster is a blanket term for anything that is trendy that people don't like. TV on the Radio is actually a great experimental rock band. and yeah, Phish is cool, because music is music. but there is something to be said about the fans of a band NOT having to be high while listening to it.
Why are people so overly concerned with deciding which version of a particular song is "better," and why do they have to get so butthurt about it? There are different things to enjoy about both versions. Why not focus on that?
I have seen Phish play this song 3 times live believe it or not, each time it got better and the last time at watkins glen was the best by far. It may not be "TV on the Radio" but it's not supposed to be... It's Phish, and thats why we love them and you love TV on the Radio. Phish represents what 1omang said here. When you go see Phish and they break out a Soul Shakedown Party, I don't expect Bob Marley, why would I expect tvotr?
Come on. TV on the Radio and Phish are both great. They're just different. Any half assed band can get on stage and copy someone else's songs. That's the point of a cover.... to take someone's music and put your twist on it. They took an awesome song and made it phishy.
I'm always so concerned with my view of the band I always forget to get good seats for the lights, you got perfects shots of the "jaws of the whale" effect that KURODA goes for, nicely done, and sick camera too bro look forward to your future vids
I have a soft spot for Phish and saw them a lot before the "break up", but anyone who thinks they do this song better than TV On the Radio is just being silly. Sub-par vocals and a 6 minute same-old-jam are the reason none of their covers have ever been better than the originals.
@darkjimi yeah im sorry but most of their covers are better than the original, they just dont specialize in indie synth pop. See: Light Up or Leave Me Alone, Cities, Time Loves a Hero, ect. How can you say you have a soft spot for Phish and then turn around and use a phrase like "Same-old-jam"...blasphemy
they do a great job of doing covers...and this one is suited to many a person's taste more than the original. It's nice to know that Phish fans just celebrate good music regardless of what the stupid hipster fans of the original artist think of phish. Hipsters are lame...and they will soon be VERY ashamed of their high school/college pics wearing their idiotic skinny jeans and hating on all things that they don't like....
@darkjimi yah but lets see TV's guitar player play and sing and improvise at the same time. the rest of the band........there is no better example of musicianship in the world. Loves me some Phish...and I would say their cover of Drowned and Cross Eyed and Painless are better than the originals...thanks for playing!
I was there. It was amazing. High point of night 1 for my girlfriend. Don't mind the haters and don't waste your time on them. They just don't get it. Be thankful they don't. Then they would be at the shows stealing your tickets, there are plenty of"phakers" at each show as it is.
@Handyandy58 - its not really that great of a song anyway, but this is definitely better than TV's version. haha, not even close. sound is way better, and thats just a crappy youtube video. lol
I'm a huge phish fan and I think TV on the Radio's version is better... but it's not about that. It's about the moment in that show when they broke into this random and unexpected song. Sorry you folks don't get that part of it.
@1omang It might have something to do with the killer 4 1/2 minute jam that makes people (TV on the Radio fans) not "get it." I was 5th row center at this show and I thought this, and On Your Way Down were the highlights of the show. Even over the Hendrix encore. The boys CRUSHED this tune. I wish they would keep it in the rotation.
Hate to burst your bubble, but that is already implied because it's opinionated and he only gave his opinion. The use of "in my opinion" is redundant. And in case you're wondering: yes, this is the kind of thing I think about. Both versions are nice and very different.
yowzer I hadnt heard this show yet so I just finally put o golden age cuz everyones been talkoing about it. Had this playing in the background, and somewhere around 4:25 trey GOES THERE and I had to stop everything else I was doing and watch tihs.
why is it that whenever phish plays a cover from a band ive never heard before, i love the cover so much better than the original? oh yeah because its phish :)
agreed more love less hate. Remember, this is the first time played and practice makes perfect. This was amazing gives me chills every time i hear it. Thanks, Mozambique!!
