If you are at all interested in seeing this, I would strongly encourage you to get the book(s). They are a great read & if you are into audio books, the guy who reads them does an excellent job.
No! we're not ripping off avatar or anything we're just making a film bout a guy thrown into a different world that falls in love with one of the natives while saving said world at disney we're original :D
@RandomlyFunnygirl This is based on a book that is decades older than Avatar. The basic plot of Avatar is nothing new, a guy falling in love with a native from a different world has been done SOOOO many times.
@RandomlyFunnygirl yeah, because avatar was written in the 20's and this was written in the 30's right...but by 20's i meant 2000s and by 30's i meant 1930s..go read something, you really need it...
This makes me want to go read the books! The fact that they were all written BEFORE 1940 is kind of amazing, so modern for the time ( i mean nowadays we think Mars schmalz, but this author wasn't held back by any "desensitization" to space or concepts that we see as a norm in books and movies now. He came up with some pretty amazing stuff!! I hope this movie turns out well but i'm sure disney is going to do it right.
@MrStGeorgeIllawarra Andrew Stanton had test screenings that had a 75-80% approval of the film, rating it from good to excellent, this was unfinished with no special effects or music!
Do you know what Andrew Stanton did, he went back and re-shot the scenes that caused confusion and hurt the story!
HE fixed the problem when most directors would have been satisfied with those numbers, but he wasnt he wanted to do it right!
This book was first published in 1912 jerk. Have a little creativity and heart for once people. Someone out there was a dreamer who are we to say what people should dream about...
@Ralokone I was more interested in seeing what they would do with the concept of the Chessmen. And of course all novel based movies accurately follow the book, you effin tool.
Well assuming that the treat this series similiar to how they treat pirates, they will make the primary triology and then spinoff films later
If it is good they will milk it for all it has
Stanton probably wouldnt direct, but he would have a word in and knowing the way he is he would want the kaldanes to be emphasized, and would probably retool the kaldanes so they are part of manator culture
This looks like Prince of Persia, except it's got a scenes from the Victorian Era, an aliens, and space ships and a good script. Actually, it looks nothing like Prince of Persia, it looks like 'A Princess of Mars' put onto screen. I can't wait for this.
Is anyone thinking, Disney should make a live action He-man, i mean his outfit almost same, alien world, with sword and socerrory and wildly stretching technological scales and non human looking creatures with guns.

Why are you complaining about the existence of magic in a fantasy film? Just because there are other planets doesnt mean its science fiction! Nor does it have to be realistic!
@sth128 it isnt the story of colonization of an alien world, it is teh story of one mans journey and how he changes a dying world!
And magic in the Edgar Rice Burroughs universe is treated as a force of nature, not something that can be called upon at will and used with ease, and its not something that can really be known about by too many people.
And the bad guys in the movie . . . guess what, they are the sorcerors not the good guys! And they are all aliens but John Carter
@sth128 you need to understand the world before you can complain about it, the planet mars is a dying world become like how we know it today. The inhabitants built a massive atmosphere factory to sustain their world but it only prolongs hte inevitable.
The worlds culture is so seeped in war that death is viewed casually!
