I agree. Sipe didn't win any rings. It's also quite likely that he would never come close had he stayed a Brown. I said Kosar was overrated. That doesn't mean he wasn't a good QB. It just means he doesn't belong in the HOF. Yes, it is true, Sipe did throw the interception against Oakland and he didn't put up the gaudy numbers Kosar did. But you can't absolve him of the 3 AFC championships that the Browns lost. Especially when Kosar looked like Mangini on the sidelines when they lost them.
@perdondaris Neither one of those guys are Hall of Famers but they are absolutely beloved by Browns fans everywhere. Personally I think Kosar is UNDERrated. His career could have and probably should have included multiple super bowls in Cleveland. He always had them in position to win in those big games until the Drive and the Fumble happened. Luck was never on his side, not an excuse just the truth
@ksuds08 kosar was underrated and he would have been in the hof if he wasnt unjustly fired by that dirty cheater bill belicheck. oh wait he wasnt cheating he just "misinterpreted the rules" i think bellicheck fired kosar cause he was jealous of bernies superior knowledge of x's and o's. i would love to see bernie coach against bellicheck someday
Schottenheimer never won in the clutch. After leaving the Browns he never even won another playoff game. Shoddy Martenheimer football philosophy was terrible. Kosar is overrated. Kosar could never hold onto a lead in the big games. See playoff games vs.Miami, Houston and Denver. Look I rooted for Bernie his entire career, but Sipe was more fun to watch. Getting to Super Bowls is what separates good QBs (Kosar) from great QBs (like Elway). Belichick was right about Bernie's diminished capacity.

@perdondaris At least Kosar took his team to conference championships, did Sipe ever get past the divisional rounds? Winning is what matters, and Schotty and Kosar did a lot of it. They never won the big one, but they took Cleveland as close as they have ever been. I dont see Sipes ring anywhere. And most coaches can only dream of having the legacy of Schottenehimer. Sipe was lucky with last minute heroics, and not enough of them to win, unlike an Elway or Montana(great qb's)...
Sipe was better than Kosar. Rutigliano was an awful coach. Sipe was smart. Kosar was dumb. Schottenheimer sucked too. Sipe got out of football before he got his brains knocked out of him like Kosar did. I know Cockroft was shaky but I still would have put him out there for the FG.
@perdondaris Kosar ended his career with a much better passer rating than Sipe not to mention a better td to int ratio and a better win percentage, he was smart enough to make the reads he needed to it would seem; also Schottenheimer left the NFL after going 14-2 that season and leaving with a 200-126-1 record making multiple playoff appearances with every team he coached not to mention mentoring coaches like Bill Cower and Tony Dungy...
Wow, imagine getting the name Cleveland Browns? They should have called them the Cleveland blands. What a nothing kind of name.... just like Cleveland in the middle of the country.....in the middle of no-where.
@Flipper79able They are named after the legendary Ohio coach Paul Brown, have some respect for one of the oldest franchises in one of the original football states named after one of the most legendary coaches of all time.
sipe was good back in the day, but who the hell called a passing play there, i remember that game and i thought they would run up the middle and then attempt fg, come on i know it was icy but i would take my chances on a fg under 30 yds 100 out of 100 times, NO DOUBT
@wolfmanrick You know, I thank you for being the first non- Browns fan I've seen in a while that hasn't said "Browns fucking suck" or "Your a joke of a team" It is good to see that some people respect our team.

@squonk61 No, it wasn't 4th down. After Pruitt had the nice gain on the draw play, they called time out and then ran it again, this play only gained a yard or so and they called their 2nd time out. Sam R. told Sipe "to throw it in lake Erie" if nobody was open. The rest is history.
I remeber watching this game, expecting the Browns who kept us on the edge of our seats to pull it out in the end, but Alas they lost but was one of those great games
lol...david bowie song....anyway winning that game would of just sent us to play the charges in sunny cali....this game hurted but not as much as the drive and the fumble because those games would of put us in the superbowl...i was a big raiders fan back in those days....madden, stabler, branch, but i was still pulling for the browns any way my raiders went on to the superbowl and won first wild card team to win a super bowl and all games on the road. now i do not follow sports.
when we sat ...down, there was a thin layer of ice over it, people were warming up each others feet within the stadiuim! Yilkes man, that was my coldest day outside of that installing the new continous caster in 1993 at LTV Steel! Installing a brand new 360 ton Ladle crane! with a 125 Ton auxilliary hoist! Great Job Cold as hell, no oxymoron I tell ya! The sheets on the northern side of the building were gone 35 mph crawling up you ying yang too boot!
Do you want to go? I said sure, i'm an idiot! So away we go in 1980 to the stadium to watch the Browns, box seats baby, however wind chill was 32 below 0! we got hot chocolate,
This was the coldest day of my life, i get a phone call from my buddy, I was 16 at the time, he said" My friends dad givin us box seats for this game man"!
I was 8 years old when I saw that happen on TV and I still remember is quite vividly. My mom cried and of course being 8 years old that made me bawl my head off. I watched this post for a couple minutes but I had to stop it. Even 30 years later it still gives me that sick and sinking feeling. But I am confident we WILL get at least ONE before I die. Let's GO BROWNS!!

I still remember watching it on the TV like it happened yesterday. I clicked pause, I just can't watch it. We will get it one year, and then I can die in peace. GO BROWNS!
Remember the fan music the radio stations used to play back in the day? I wanna find those songs. If anyone knows where to find them, I want the link.
Don Coftroft was giving head to Lyle Alzado and Alzado went into cardiac arrest and died.Thats why the 1980 Browns were known as The Cardiac Browns.Brian Sipe and Fair Hooker also were born again bisexual Browns who loved to suck cock the way most NFL players enjoyed drinking beer!
@Mydickitches1 Actually your mom likes to suck cock the way most NFL players enjoy drinking beer, but I don't hold that against her. I just love fucking that fat bitch!
The kicker, Don Cockroft missed 5 field goals in that game, that's why the Browns went to the end zone instead of going for the field goal. Good call by Coach Rutigliano.
The Browns? lol 60 years without a championship? Its a crime the Steelers have two easy wins every season. When they did win they weren't good. They couldn't beat the worst conference champion in NFL history the pisspot Broncos who got embarrassd in the Super Bowl several times.
I bet the Brown fans wish they stayed away! lol The Browns are 59-117 .335 since 99. The Kardiac Kids? Garbage. They went 5-11 the following season? They sucked! lol In fact thay became the "Cardiac" Kids in 81 causing their fans to have heart attacks! Losers. The Steelers whipping boy for 44 years! lol
I was 7 when this game was played. It was also the first time I heard my Dad use the 'F" word. He told Jimmy The Greek to "Go Fuck Himself" after we turned on CBS to watch Dallas V. Atlanta. The Greek made some negative comment about the Browns. Jimmy did fuck himself years later with his comments about Doug Williams. Don't worry Cleveland; there is justice in this world. Go Browns!
The Steelers are only 58-56 allttime vs the Browns which isn't nearly as bad as you fans thought. The 1933-71 Steelers failed to win a division title amazingly.
Despite the Brown struggles in recent years they have a very good alltime record of 480-387-13.553. That is a higher winning pct. then the Steelers.alltime 529-495-20 ,517. The Browns are an outstanding 93 games over .500, the Steelers only 34 games over ,500? Sorry Steeler fans! lol
Those Brown fans love their team. Usually when the Cowboys play on the road I can hear fans cheer the Cowboys. Well in 08 we opened the season there and I didn't hear much cheering at all after a Dallas score. Despite the Browns struggles in the last 10-15 years they have a rich winning history. This 80 team was better then the teams who lost to Denver. Oakland went on to win it all in 80.
@maddymud you say cockroft was a clutch kicker? thats interesting, i didnt know that. maybe its true, but he sure missed alot of regular season fgs and pats, thats why the brownies always had weird scores like 25-22 ( before the 2 point conversion!)
Wow, I remember these games like they were yesterday. Even though I'm a die-hard Viking fan (so yes Cleveland, I can feel your pain) I always loved these Browns teams. And I remember rooting my heart out for the Browns as my Vikes were dumped from the playoffs the day before. Now I would probably get to see only 3 or 4 Browns games a year back then, but it ALWAYS seemed like Don Criqui did every Cleveland home game for NBC. Anyway, thanks for the great video!!
Thanks for posting , I was in a band at the time , we watched every game while practicing , cheering and playing "Gimmie three steps" . Memories !!!! Thanks again !!!!
Its funny watching the players at the beginning of the video come out of the Indians Dugout. That is just weird seeing it again after all these years.
@scottieman2 The Catch (baseball), Curse of Rocky Colavito, Red Right 88, The Drive, The Fumble, The Shot, Cleveland Browns relocation controversy, 1997 World Series, and The Decision. Yep, it is.
@2011mrkingofkings And it's partly the coaches, the owners, the ones the run the teams. They don't wanna hire any real talent. Another part is some of the players are just 'here' and using Cleveland as a stepping stone to get to the teams they want to get to or to a 'better' team.
@superjoe10001 no doubt. everything was set up for the browns to go to the superbowl that year. there were no dominant teams in the league (the best record in the afc was 11-5) The browns were hot, and they played just as good on the road as they did at home. and as you said, they had emotional leaders on that team like R.L.Jackson and Alzado. they seemed like a team of destiny
The Browns has a better team than the Raiders that year we were fortunate to come away with a victory in this game i felt the Browns should have run the ball to get a bit closer then kick the FG because Cockroft made the previous 2 fg's so he should have had some confidence in his kicker you got to take your chances with the 3 it is the much safer option but what a great football game.
@superjoe10001 i always thought of that browns team as huge overachievers, but the truth is they were the hottest team in the league at the end of that year. as for the pass, it truly was the right thing to do, although it didnt work out. Cockroft used to regularly miss extra points even in good weather, and he was horrible that day.
@kevlarunderwear22 -- but, Cockroft would usually hit the one that counted ... I don't mind them taking a shot at the end zone, but I wish they woulda tossed towards Logan or the Lake, like the play was designed ...
@superjoe10001 huh? The Browns went 5-11 the following year? Stay off the weed. The Raiders beat an outstanding Eagle team 27-10 in the SB. 80 was a fluke season for the Browns. Played over their heads.
Wow! thanks for this video. Every time I watch this video it brings back good and sad memories. But that is ok, 2010 is going to be our year to go all the way. GO BROWNIES!!!!
he was great, wont say he was the all time greatest qb but he was BY FAR THE MOST ACCURATE QB OF ALL TIMES (and the smartest of all time). he still holds the record for passes without an interception. i read in SI that at an nfl qb picnic kosar was the only nfl qb that could throw the ball through a tire hanging on a rope. im surprised he doesnt coach today, i dont claim to know what it takes to coach an nfl team but id bet kosar would be great at it.
The video is great, I'll have to send it to Cliff Odom one of the Kardic Kids so he can see it, the only thing I would of changed is somehow I would of put Michael Stanley's Here we go again
The Raiders: the most over rated franchise ever. Lost 3 straight AFL/AFC Champ gms in 68, 69, 70 with 2 of them as favorites. Lost 3 straight AFC champ gms again in 73, 74, and 75. Then in 77 season AFC Champ gm lost for the 1st time at Den since early 60's. And of course their 76 season SB win was due 1st to phantom rough passer call on Pats in 1st playoff round and then due to the Steelers losing Franco and Rocky B to injuries vs Bal in Divisional round.
Reason #1 for Cleveland winning the AFC Central that year, Ken Stabler. When we traded winner Dan Pastorini for choke artist Stabler it sabatoged Houstons super bowl season. The Browns were vastly inferior talent wise to the Oilers, but The Snake gave them the AFC Central by default.
@riotusa1 you are a idiot, the snake was the original mr clutch. Your just made because your team got moved and houston never had a qb as good as stabler
@slayerss3 It is you who are the idiot. I remember that season vividly. Yes Snake had some good seasons in Oakland but he came to Houston a partied out has-been. He threw 28 interceptions and only 13 tds. He cost us games vs KC, NY Jets and Cleveland because of late interceptions. Pastorini was comming off the best two seasons of his career and was a proven winner. Stabler was washed up and it was never more evident than in the playoffs vs Oakland
well nobody wants to see it happened but it did. im tired of living in the past. we just have deal with the browns we have now. hopefully we'll pick up some talent in the offseason.
A lifelong Browns fan I think this video is very well done. I was shocked when the ball was hurled to the endzone unnecessariky. Anyways Under Pressure is a fine choice as it seems to capture the emotion of my hard luck team/town. No point in showing the interception either and more poignant IMHO that you chose not to.
wow. you had me up until the end of the video i didn't even mind when under pressure started playing, it actually fit the video but you messed up when you didn't show the end of the game and then played that gay song at the end.
I had season tickets for all those games the new stadium has no home field advantage i`m older now but still with psl`s and corporate seats will never be the same WHAT A SHAME
...And the Raiders intercepted in the end zone. Tough break. Point of the video taken though; Great memories. Cleveland has awesome fans- any sport. ***Also, I think the Browns would've have whipped up on the suck ass "Eaglets" like the Raiders did in the Superbowl that year.
I came of age as a football fan at this time. It was amazing. A few weeks before this game The Rolling Stones played the no longer in existence Richfield Coliseum for 2 sold out shows. The second night Mick Jagger came out in a Cleveland Browns jersey. That's how REAL THE KARDIAC KIDS WERE!
For those people wondering how Browns fans could possibly keep sticking it out, this is the reason. Once upon a time, we had the cardiac kids, and even though it was a long time ago, the fans remember. One day, we'll get there again.
Brian Sipe was a great quaterback.. He had tremendous courage and confidence. He also had Ozzie, Dave Logan, Reggie Rucker , and the
2 Pruitts. What a great era . I can remember going to Hopkins Airport after the Ice Bowl and seeing the Raiders .. They were all getting shoe shines and hanging out .. it was a very tough loss
I was just thinking about this yesterday, like I do every January 4th. It doesn't seem like it's been 30 years.

lol...david bowie song....anyway winning that game would of just sent us to play the charges in sunny cali....this game hurted but not as much as the drive and the fumble because those games would of put us in the superbowl...i was a big raiders fan back in those days....madden, stabler, branch, but i was still pulling for the browns any way my raiders went on to the superbowl and won first wild card team to win a super bowl and all games on the road. now i do not follow sports.

The 1933-71 Steelers failed to win a division title amazingly.
dallas5sb 1 year ago
Despite the Brown struggles in recent years they have a very good alltime record of 480-387-13.553. That is a higher winning pct. then the Steelers.alltime 529-495-20 ,517. The Browns are an outstanding 93 games over .500, the Steelers only 34 games over ,500? Sorry Steeler fans! lol

Brian Sipe, Sam Ruttigliano, Ozzie Newsome? lol Brings back the past.
dallas5sb 1 year ago
Those Brown fans love their team. Usually when the Cowboys play on the road I can hear fans cheer the Cowboys. Well in 08 we opened the season there and I didn't hear much cheering at all after a Dallas score. Despite the Browns struggles in the last 10-15 years they have a rich winning history. This 80 team was better then the teams who lost to Denver. Oakland went on to win it all in 80.

Wow, I remember these games like they were yesterday. Even though I'm a die-hard Viking fan (so yes Cleveland, I can feel your pain) I always loved these Browns teams. And I remember rooting my heart out for the Browns as my Vikes were dumped from the playoffs the day before. 2011mrkingofkings 5 months ago
@2011mrkingofkings And it's partly the coaches, the owners, the ones the run the teams. They don't wanna hire any real talent. Another part is some of the players are just 'here' and using Cleveland as a stepping stone to get to the teams they want to get to or to a 'better' team.
scottieman2 5 months ago
Robert L. Jackson was an very aggressive linebacker he made some good plays earlier in that game as well but none bigger than that stop.
superjoe10001 1 year ago 2
@superjoe10001 no doubt. everything was set up for the browns to go to the superbowl that year. there were no dominant teams in the league (the best record in the afc was 11-5) The browns were hot, and they played just as good on the road as they did at home. and as you said, they had emotional leaders on that team like R.L.Jackson and Alzado. they seemed like a team of destiny
kevlarunderwear22 1 year ago
The Browns has a better team than the Raiders that year we were fortunate to come away with a victory in this game i felt the Browns should have run the ball to get a bit closer then kick the FG because Cockroft made the previous 2 fg's so he should have had some confidence in his kicker you got to take your chances with the 3 it is the much safer option but what a great football game.
superjoe10001 1 year ago 4
@superjoe10001 i always thought of that browns team as huge overachievers, but the truth is they were the hottest team in the league at the end of that year. as for the pass, it truly was the right thing to do, although it didnt work out. Cockroft used to regularly miss extra points even in good weather, and he was horrible that day.
kevlarunderwear22 1 year ago
@kevlarunderwear22 -- but, Cockroft would usually hit the one that counted ... I don't mind them taking a shot at the end zone, but I wish they woulda tossed towards Logan or the Lake, like the play was designed ...
maddymud 1 year ago
@superjoe10001 huh? The Browns went 5-11 the following year? Stay off the weed. The Raiders beat an outstanding Eagle team 27-10 in the SB. 80 was a fluke season for the Browns. Played over their heads.

he was great, wont say he was the all time greatest qb but he was BY FAR THE MOST ACCURATE QB OF ALL TIMES (and the smartest of all time). he still holds the record for passes without an interception. i read in SI that at an nfl qb picnic kosar was the only nfl qb that could throw the ball through a tire hanging on a rope. im surprised he doesnt coach today, i dont claim to know what it takes to coach an nfl team but id bet kosar would be great at it.

The Browns were vastly inferior talent wise to the Oilers, but The Snake gave them the AFC Central by default.
riotusa1 2 years ago
@riotusa1 you are a idiot, the snake was the original mr clutch. Your just made because your team got moved and houston never had a qb as good as stabler
slayerss3 1 year ago
@slayerss3 It is you who are the idiot. I remember that season vividly. Yes Snake had some good seasons in Oakland but he came to Houston a partied out has-been. He threw 28 interceptions and only 13 tds. He cost us games vs KC, NY Jets and Cleveland because of late interceptions. Pastorini was comming off the best two seasons of his career and was a proven winner. Stabler was washed up and it was never more evident than in the playoffs vs Oakland

A lifelong Browns fan I think this video is very well done. I was shocked when the ball was hurled to the endzone unnecessariky. Anyways Under Pressure is a fine choice as it seems to capture the emotion of my hard luck team/town. No point in showing the interception either and more poignant IMHO that you chose not to.
veryverymakmak 2 years ago

I came of age as a football fan at this time. It was amazing. A few weeks before this game The Rolling Stones played the no longer in existence Richfield Coliseum for 2 sold out shows. The second night Mick Jagger came out in a Cleveland Browns jersey. That's how REAL THE KARDIAC KIDS WERE!

For those people wondering how Browns fans could possibly keep sticking it out, this is the reason. Once upon a time, we had the cardiac kids, and even though it was a long time ago, the fans remember. One day, we'll get there again.
