I know what you mean, Bill. My wife's 10 days past her surgery. This is her 11th such procedure (4 knee, 6 hip, 1 elbow), and I'm STILL learning how to be less of an ass. Can't imagine what a wimp I'd be if I were in her shoes.
I first watched this video 11 months after my wife had this done. Now I feel like I've been an insensitive ass for the last 11 months. I'm sure it's been longer then that though. She is doing great now and is able to walk and be on it for extended periods with only a little discomfort at times. I'm committed to being less of an ass
I had an mri and the findings are 1.moderately severe osteoarthritis in medial compartment. 2.Degeneration and tear, medial meniscus. 3. Chondromalacia of the patella. 4.Severe tear of ACL. 5.Partial intrasubstance tear or sprain of PCL. 6.Moderate size joint effusion. Can you help me without surgery? Where are you located? I have had stem cell procedure, PRP, some Prolo-therapy, physical therapy and now I am having rulfing 1-2 times a week. My leg has atrophied and I have a severe bend.
I am only in early 50's, and having replacement surgery Monday....stryker device, noticed they were sued, and implants faulty, but dont know what else to do, it has stopped my life, and will end up in wheelchair....at my age...?
I dislocated my knee at 14,had surgery at 15.Major knee surgery at 17 because i had several more dislocations. That lasted 17 years, then my knee dislocated in 1997.I had surgery(cartiledge shaved out)lasted 12 years. It dislocated over 2 years ago.I been wearing a brace 24hrs a day.Now i got ins. & i was told if i get a knee replacement it could DISLOCATE??i have an option, get major knee surgery or knee replacement. My surgeon passed away and i seen 4 surgeons & they dont know what to do.
@xotinamariaxo that could have possibly be because of ligament damage i remember when i tore my acl before i had the surgery my knee was very unstable and would often buckle
Where can I find SPMF therapy? Is there any age group for this treatment? what was your condition before starting the treatment? please reply as we need this information urgently. Thanks!
I tried SPMF Therapy for arthritis treatment, it is a completely painless therapy and I feel much better, my pain has reduced significantly and my condition is improving every passing day. Thanks to SPMF Therapy, I am back to my normal routine.
I have tried all of the things he mentioned to try before having this and i have had arthoscopic knee surgery as well, but nothing has helped and i am in pain every single day. I dont think i need a knee replacement because i am only 15. I used to be an avid soccer player and basketball and skiier but now i cant do any of it. I just need to find something that fixes it..
@kakay47 It is not just for old people...lots of athletes end uo doing TKR. I had it in 2006. My knee is still swelled up. I still have pain and if I do anything with my legs (I like to work out and hike) my knee swells worse and it hurts a lot. Two surgeons from different practices believe scar tissue has grown into the prosthetic and is slowly separating like a tree root will do to sewer and water conduit. Both recommend replacement surgery which is even more painful than first! Och!
I have to have total knee replacement surgery on one knee. After seeing this video I don't know that I want to have it done. Did you see the way they took the mallet and hit on that metal thing. I think my hip would hurt more than the knee after being hit like that.
I am having knee replacement surgery, and I am 37 yrs old, Why I am getting it done is because I torn all the liagments in my knee. I hope I can recovery soon after I have this surgery in 2 weeks.
Hi i have to have 2 knee replacements also in the upcoming months, i have had rhumatoid aurthritus since i was 3 years old and im now 34, i feel in so much pain through the whole of my body though my knees and legs are the worst in regards to pain, cant sleep, wake up at least 4 times a night. Pills, injections all do not work this this is the last resort. Also very nervous and scared but i know it will improve my way of life so just focusing on that.
@13dreamer1 I hate to rain on a parade but I had TKR 0n my left knee last Nov. It went really well. They did my right knee Dec. 31. I have been in great pain ever since. They did a revision 1 month ago. Still much pain. Something went wrong but they won't admit it. Now they are cutting down on my pain meds. Make sure you have a good Dr. and ask him about taking care of you after the surgery. I don't trust or believe any of them now. Most are after money only and don't give a s##t about you.
@tandforsumr I had my TKR almost 4 years ago and am in constant pain. I am 34 years old and when I would go to him for help, he would just look at me like I was crazy, saying that it was all in my head. He never would say it, but I'm sure that he thought that I was just after pain meds. I am in so much more pain now, than before I even had the surgery. I am going to attempt to go back and see him one last time, and if he doesn't want to fix me, then I will go somewhere else.
@titansfreak32 I work for an orthopedist...the dr is probably thinking wow i didn't do a good job. surgery is not a guarentee. but its suppose to help out better than what pain u were in. also note. everyone reacts differently to surgeries...some are a success and alot are not.
I am having Total knee replacement June 22, 2010. I am scared to death!! I am only 45 I have had a lot of damage to my knee. Mcl, Acl, Pcl surgeries not to mention the numerous scopes that had been performed. All have caused damage that I now have to have this done! I will let you know how I feel later! Wish me luck
@sandrala6 Do you have to take immune inhibitors the rest of your life, or will bone eventually grow over the prosthetic device? I'd hate for a cold or a slight scratch to end up threatening my life, I know there are calcium supplements to help speed up the growth of the bone, but when your life is at stake there is no room for mistakes.
@sandrala6 I am having tkr in november. I hope your surgery went well and would like to know how things are going. I know it's only been about two weeks, so maybe you aren't feeling up to sitting at a computer, but when you are, maybe you could drop me a line. Best wishes.
I just had total knee replacement surgery at Rush Oak Park in Oak Park, IL. The first three weeks are NOT fun..take your pain meds, but now I am feeling much better and will have the the other done before the end of 2010. Good luck to anyone having it done. Midwest Orthopeadics is a wonderful group at Rush/Chicago.
Laughed my ass off when he was beating the tool with a giant metal hammer... if thats as easy as it is then sign me up for med school!!! Just kidding these surgeons are obviously skilled people that have a huge tolerance for blood and gore!
I wonder what recovery is like. Is the patient able to return to normal.. And normal meaning playing sports, without pain. Jumping, running etc.. Lateral movement.
Does this surgery increase the knees resistence to future injury
I have had physical therapy for 2 and half years! I need knee surgery! It is hard finding a doc who will do PCL surgery! I have an appt with my fifth knee doctor in 4 days!
all the docs say I need PCL surgery but they all don't do it but have to see what # 5 has to say! He is the PCL specialist! Bilateral torn menicus, fractured patella, and torn PCL is the pits!! And Im too young for a knee replacement they say! They keep me waiting I will be old enough!
how old are you? i'm very arthritic in my right knee now becuase 75 percent of my meniscus was removed in the first ACL/ MCL reconstruction when i was twelve. Have you looked at cartilage transplants and implants? i'm hoping to get one this fall. i think a lot depends on where you go.
I'm not sure when you posted your comments but I will tell you that I'm 47 and I had a TKR done on 8/5/08. If you can tolerate pain meds you'll do fine. Look for a doctor using the Zimmer Knee, it's less invasive and made for women. I hope this helps if not too late.
I had a huge tear in my menicus... had the arthroscopic surgery done last Dec. It improved greatly. I fell later, so I have more damage and now will have a total replacement done... soon. I'm too young for it too, but as they say, "It's not your age but your pain and injury" that create the need for having it replaced. I am looking forward to less pain! Yes the pain sucks! If I can do it, so can you. Just, "get 'er done." :-) Happy trails.

I truly believe this will be better than a life of pain and knees giving out causing the occasional fall ..especially when it is down steps.
