THANK. YOU. I am a neophyte singer and i have an instrument that i want to play but my book that teaches me how to play it is based on music theory and sheet music.
I dont know when ppl are gonna realize that you dont need to dwell on musical theory to play music... Ill tell you what you do need though is very good timing to make your music actually make sense. Good timing is all you need, and thats it. When ever you play make sure you have a metronome or just tap your foot. Take it from me, a guy who learns by ear timing is all you need. Ive been noticing that ppl who are good at sheet music are sooo very sucky at performing. They forget about tempo.
@MeistroMac91 I must say that I understand completely what you are meaning to describe, however I believe an equal amount of importance should be placed the learning of music theory. It is a universally accepted standard, and is a very nifty lesson to understand when playing or singing with a group, and even lonesome in order to accomplish the "sound" you wish to acquire.
@MissWanderlily All you really need to know is your majors and minors for those are the 2 main ones. Musical theory was made by one person and one person only. Johan Sebastien Bach was his name. And now were all expected to follow it. Thats living like a Nazi right there.
These videos are great! How can anyone dislike this video? This young man is taking time out of his own day and helping people for FREE that cannot afford it. I think what he is doing is great and I'd love to hear the ridiculous reasons of the 66 people that chose to dislike this video. Keep up the great work and I look forward to learning more from you!
Hopefully, after all these decades, I'll finally understand HOW and WHY Frank Sinatra sounded so awesome. Also how his biggest band leaders, Billy May and Nelson Riddle, achieved such incredibly complex yet perfectly done imagery.
Hello Andrew, i am a subscriber to your uploads, may I include that I am finding your piano lesson uploads very helpful, thank you. I am on my 5th lesson and try my best to practice, I've just found out that you do theory lessons as well. i was wondering is it recommended that I shud go through the theory vids as well? Or shud i do it wen ive finished with the practical or shud i balance it in that i can do both, pls tell me ur opinion.
As I am sure you know there are more clefs than just treble and bass. A viola player uses the C clef in the alto or viola position. I sang in choirs, played piano and cello. When I picked up the viola there was this horrible new clef to learn - drove me nuts. I had seen the C clef rarely in choral music in the tenor position, but there it made sense as an extension of the bass clef.
Organ music has three clefs - so The Really Grand Staff? :) Thanks for the lessons!
@shernizliew Hello. There are many good books to learn music theory and to learn about music. You know, singing does not require an instrument. Do you sing at all?
Hi Andy, I just decided to try and qualify to the Music Academy but all I could afford after saving a lot is a violin tutor and theory books, nothing left for the music theory tutor so I am looking forward to your lectures:) I hope they are good:) Thanks
When I was younger you taught me how to play piano with your videos. Now that I'm in high school, you're helping me stay one step ahead in my (very intense and stressful, bahaha) AP music theory class. Dude, I owe a lot to you. I give you my sincere e-thanks from the bottom of my heart. You rock <3

I am a single mom of three kids, I work full time, and I don't have the money, time, resources or teachers to teach and advance me in my talents and passions. Music is one of my greatest passions and I believe part of God's plan for my future. I cannot thank you enough, this means so much to me, thank you again.

@BlueMonstter Something like this is only as good as what you make of it. I watched about 3/4 of the course and I can assure you it's solid material and definitely worth watching. 1. You are a saint for putting all this up. I've played music since I began on violin at 12, picked up guitar at 19, and was never good at either (still learning guitar), but I was always just barely passable as a violin student, my ability to read music was so-so, and my understanding of even the basest music theory entirely phoned in.

Many would dislike this because this way of teaching isnt as authentic as its taught through schools. To me, I believe that since we're bounded with advanced technology in the modern time, this can be considered to be much easier, cheaper, and even safer way. But I dont guarantee that you'll be the next Beethoven! That requires an actual education that gives the proper ability. Thank you Lypur for expressing your teachings to the whole world (of Youtube lol)
Wow thanks alot sir, my piano teacher gave up on me because i was kind of a beginner, but now i can play many pieces perfectly because of you, i can read music like a book :P
I always want to play piano anx learn music theory. I just don't have the money to go for the course. But this vid is awesome. Finally i can learn for free
I know the basics of music theory. Im in a level 3 music theory class, just finished learning the dominant with raised 5th and the common tone diminished 7th chord. I love music theory but sometimes it can be a pain, critical thinking!
Awesome vids, i always wanted to learn to read music and play piano, guitar, or violin but never had the resources or time but your vids are free and i can watch them on my time, so thank you for your hard work and genorosity.
Hey I wondering if you can make a video of a note for note walkthrough of a intermediate piece using sheet musc. What I mean exactly is show us the sheet music right then show us the corresponding notes on the piano.
Thank you very much man this is awesome!!! I have been playing guitar for a while, but never new theory so it was difficult. Hopefully this will help me though =)
It looks like I've now found something worthwhile to do in the coming winter months! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this series of videos. Reading notation is something that I've wanted to learn for a long while now, but due to many reasons I have always found it something that is hard to get started on. I've bought many instructional books over the years, but they always seem to lose me after the first few pages! Thank you again!!
I agree with these previous comments. THANK YOU!!! I am older and can play the harp, but I can't read music. Thanks to you, I hope to change that!!! You are AWESOME!!!
Thank you :') ♥ A friend told me to watch your videos. He said you showed music theory in such an interesting and mind blowing way. Thank you so much for dedicating your time and energy to helping others! I wanna hug you! hahaha! I look forward to being you're student :3
I used to play piano for about 2 or three years when I was around 8 till i slowed on my practice habits and eventually had to stop which i then switch to french horn in my middle school band... this ended eventuall during freshman year. I am currently trying to learn guitar and for someone who has played music for a good chunk of their life i have all up and forgot music theory completely somehow ( idk how ) but i feel I will want to know it for guitar and am happy i found your videos THANKSALOT
I really wish I'd started learning music when I was younger lol... Then maybe my childhood years wouldn't have been a waste and my teenage life right now would be completely different
Thank you soooo much for your videos! :-) You're such a great man! I've always wanted to learn to play the piano but couldn't afford it, and also wanted to know more about music :-) I really admire you for what you're doing. A big hug from me! :-)
how do you play when same clef is written in the grand staff ? I mean two bass or two treble clef in the grand staff sometime s small clef in the middle of another clef
No one understands my handwriting anyway... I guess I'll just use MuseScore.

music and math is hard because it forces you to use parts of your brain that don't get used everyday.
