  • if you think this was good i suggest you read the graphic novel! :)

  • This movie was average imho. It wasn't my type of superhero movie anyway, so I give it 5.5/10.

  • @confusedmatthew I'm a little curious, after watching this film, did you read the graphic novel? The film for me was good, but like a Harry potter film, I couldn't help but think that the book was better.

  • i watched watchmen at a friends house for a bit and got bored shitless. but i borrowed the dvd a few weeks later after watching this review and now i loved it XD

  • You guys sound like comic book fans after they've first read Watchmen. It's refreshing to hear a review from people with no pre-knowledge of the book. It's also one of the failings of the movie. Fans hate when films deviate from the source material. Watchmen was one of the most faithful interpretations ever done and THAT is what drove the point home. That what works well in one medium, doesn't necessarily work in another. That's why screenplays differ from the source matter.

  • not that great. In fact I found it to be boring as all hell.

  • I wished they would have made Watchmen into a tv series instead of into one movie. Matthew said he wished that the movie wouldn't end.

  • @SagaciousSilence I wish they would make it into a TV series too. They would be able to fit in all of the story and it would stay true to the graphic novel.

  • read some books matthew

  • You have probably been corrected since this video was made, but the first season of "Heroes" rips this off a lot.

  • who goes and watches movies for a YOUTUBE VIDEO GOD I HATE BOTH OF YOU

  • People who didnt like this movie were MOSTLY people who jumped on the bandwagon and read the comic after the trailer came out. You know, people weren't born in the 80's when it was released, but think they know more about Watchmen than everyone else. You know... fanboys. But overall it was a good movie. It was pretty much panel for panel. Malen Ackerman (however you spell it) was horrible.

  • You two sound sooooo alike.

  • @IstahilIB that's what happens when you put two brothers in the same place... At least if my understanding is correct, Confused Matthew And Stand In Stan are brothers.

  • BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!! Great review!

  • I'm just glad that Dr. Manhattan wore undies whenever he made himself Godzilla-sized . . .

  • my only prob with this movie is the main point that zach snyder tried to get across, didn't entirey engage me like the graphic novel did, they told the main story well, but the points that alan morre tried to get across was sort of a miss

  • I'm a TEENAGE GIRL, and I think this was one of the best movies ever made.

There were entire sequences taken pannel-for-pannel from the graphic novel, and everyone was cast perfectly, and the opening titles were art at its purest form.

If you haven't seen it, see it. If you've seen it, see it again. Trust me on this.

  • @MissAmiTimeLord 3

They made watchmen without the giant squid. I'll let you know thats low. In all honasty i agree with you in casting but the movie was a unintentional middle finger to alan moore.

  • @grandtheftauto5555

Or maybe it's just not possible to tell this story in the same way in a different medium. A 2 hour movie is very different from a series of graphic novels.

  • i didnt read the comic but i didnt like this movie too much i kinda got bored

  • i have an idia next time talk about the damn movie

  • Watchmen rocks.

  • One of my favorite movies of all time. I am a comic book fan who has never read the watchmen, but I still love this movie.

  • Thanks a lot for your review Confused Matthew, especially because you pointed out that the movie is understandable even if you didn't read the comic. I saw the film without any idea of the comic and felt the script explained everything very well. To my disappointment there were a lot of people who stated the opposite, some even wrote that they didn't understand the story at all. Not to mention very dumb comments. Why is that especially men seem to have a problem with Dr. Manhattan's penis?

  • very entertaining film, a lot of thought-provoking ideas, awesome action and relatable characters. but i have to say that i was kinda bored whenever that blue guy with the mule-penis was on screen. he was a fascinating character, and the movie would have been worse-off without him, but i just wish he didnt have as much screen time. what he brought to the table was good, but his dialogue itself seemed kinda bland and contrived to me. otherwise a great movie.

  • Yeah I know what a failure for having his own opinion.

  • I saw a preview of this movie, and was unsure about it, but later I started to get interested in seeing the movie. it has good music, and a dark realism to it I think. I bought the Complete Motion comic on dvd, instead. I did like the live action movie, but I like the comic better, but good review.

  • Damn critics and naysayers! This movie was one of my favorite of last year.

  • The only people who LOVE THIS MOVIE are those that did not read the book; the book was philisophical upheaval for an entire generation.

  • I didn't like this movie either. I felt the story was uninteresting. I also found myself bored. This was one of those rare films where people i respect said it was great, and i went into it optimistic. overall i was disappointed.

  • I can imagine Tesiftyexe going to his local cineplex, slapping down $8.50 (because he'll only pay matinee price), and demanding "give me my eight dollars and fifty cents worth of symbolism!" LOL. XD

  • I didn't like "Watchmen".I thought the characters were were both inane and insipid. The story hardly made any sense. Vietnam is defeated, and we have Dr. Manhattan to thank for that? Richard Nixon gets more than two terms, what? When did superheroes become unpaid shills for the state?

  • @globbo100 The actual overarching story is not as important as what it is symbolizing.

  • Well, I'm in it for the story, not the symbolism. I guess I'm old fashioned that way.

  • @globbo100 Dude, have you even read the comic book? It's a parallel world. Even reading the synopsis on databases, you can know that.

The story is complex and deals with time. The characters have their problems with humanity, and the theme is about human nature and the bad stuff you've done.

I respect your opinion, but you obviously saw a different movie then a lot of other people, including myself, did.

  • That's amazing. You say you respect my opinion, and then go out of your way to disrespect me personally by asserting that I watched an entirely different movie than everybody else did.I hope you don't talk this way to your friends and family.Let me be clear: I saw "Watchman" ,and my opinion is based on what I saw.I am not giving opinion on the comic book, because this is a movie review.I could care less about the comic book.

  • That's not disrespecting man, it's just stating that you hated the movie and I loved it. And if you don't wanna read the comic that's fine. But this film is set in an alternate world and you don't even have to read the graphic novel to understand it.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. And no, I don't speak like that to my family and I don't speak like that to anybody, I didn't even speak that way to YOU. Again, I respect your opinion, but that doesn't mean I agree.

    Nice Chatting! Shane.

  • @globbo100 It was an alternate reality and Superheros working for the government was kind of part of the point to it.

  • the sickest movie in the world!!! 10/10

  • This was a brilliant movie! 5/5

  • Is this meant to be serious? Nuke the "top people"? Where the "Leaders are"?? First, aren't they usually in, hmmm, MAJOR CITIES? And secondly, will people just say "Stuff it, lets become a socialist paradise" or being a government will there be NEW LEADERS? Then again, maybe the above comment was just a troll.

  • If you take out the government the country will stop. We need the government for stability. That goes for other countries too. As for the socialist paradise, Russia is socialist and I don't see people say, "Let's be Russia, yea!" It will take time to recover sure but as for the crisis of destroying U.S.A and Russia, I think it would pass. After the cold war America won. We should win again.

  • you're a fucking idiot.

  • when are you gona review gi joe

  • I can't express this enough. You need to read the graphic novel. If you still haven't read it seriously do it. If you loved the movie then you'll love the novel.

  • omg this guy hates movies that suck, and a few ok ones (but watevs) but i cant believe of all the movies he hates, he likes the one i absoloutly hate. its like my enemy movie i just dont get how its good

  • We learn that the baddie who killed the guy at the start is the world's smartest man. They go to stop him but are too late and 10 cities are blown up. This stopped America and Russia gonig to war but saved billions are lives. How is that a bad thing? Sure everyone hater Dr Manhatten now but everyone did anyway after the conferance. The smart guy is killed and Dr Manhatten kills Rush-hack then goes back.

So the moral of the story is, saving lives is worse than murder.

    The End.

  • It 's matter of prospective, people will disagree with you and say the ends do not justify the means. That is the point of both the movie and the book.

  • All I'm tryinbg to say in this is that all of the people the smart guy killed were already going to die, their fates were sealed. I'm not trying to be depressing or anything like that, but I'm just trying to say that in my opinion, millions is better than billions.

I'm just giving my honest opinions in this, saying things for reason, saying what I honestly think about films like Confused Matthew does.

  • good.

  • what im Confused.

  • Most fo this film is very pointless. Sometime in it we leant that the guy who died at the start was the father of latex-girl (what whet I'm going to call her). This ads nothing! I just gives us a problem with no solution! Dr Manhatten is finally convinced to come back to Earth. At so happens that the machine he was trying to build is finished so why do we need him after what he said?

See part five, the final part of this review.

  • Bombadii's written Watchmen review part three:

Here's Dr Manhatten who is trying to make some kind of machine that will save America as they think Russians will nuke them. Dr Manhatten soon goes to a press conferance where he teleports himself to Mars after screaming a lot and saying that to him there's no differance between an alive person and a dead one. Already he has abandoned everyone to die. He's another good guy.

    See part four.

  • Bombadii's written Watchmen review part two:

Next comes a scene in which two superheroes (one of which has no charactor and is just there to have the audiance look at her) talk. The first thing we hear about Rorshack (I can't be bothered learning his name) is in this: We learn that he threw an innocent person down an elevator sharf for basically no reason. Rorshack also, as is said in his "and I'll whisper no" speech says that he wants everyone to die. This is a goodie

    See part three.

  • Bombadii's written Watchmen review part one:

To be blunt, I did not like this film. Okay, from the start: It opens with someone who I thought looked like some mob boss watching some yoga show or something to that affect. He then gets attacked in his apartment and this thrown out of a window. As he falls Rorschach (I had to look on wikipedia to find out how to spell his name) tells the world's worst joke. We piscover that the dead person was a superhero.

    See part two.

  • Alos, one small thing, the other heroes burnt down a building then saved all but one person. They later set fire to the sky which you can see the rist in. Hence I re-name Knight-own Knigth-arsonist,

  • im shocked he liked this movie... because i thought he had good taste

  • watchmen was okay, the story was really confusing and didn't make too much sense

  • This movie was obviously not for me the only person i liked was Rorschach. The rest just seemed kinda dull. I didnt think it was as great as everybody says it is.

  • hmmm you used to be funny. i was listening every shit u putted here before, haven't listen for about a year and i have no idea in which moment u become so boring. adding this other dude i felt like adding some cheap crap character in some dieing series

remember your lion king review which was fucking awesome

  • yeh i dont like 2 of them

  • I completely agree that I could have watched this movie if it lasted 6 hours. People around me were bored, but I was fixed at everything that was happening. The implications of each character's backstory, ect.

  • it wasn't all that good to me...it was average or slightly above...or even below

  • oh BTW confusedmike... if you liked the movie... the comic book is 1000X's better. I defintely would recommend it, even to people who don't read comic books. Watchmen is a great work of literature.

  • I agree, but the movie was really good too.

  • the graphic novel was amazing and the movie changed the ending that was mind blowing!!! nobody could have seen that coming and they changed it!!!!!

  • Read Black Summer.

A one shot story that is only a few issues long.

    Very awesome.

Spoony gives a 3 minute summary

    /watch?v=lAX6hm46Cqs

  • One of the WORST movies I have ever seen.Allmost as bad as Batman and Robin.I feel like it was an excuse for the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The plot and characters are both awfull

  • Perhaps you should relish the fact that the only character you liked stood up for his ideals and sense of morality even in the face of death.

  • Happened in the comic too

wasnt going to live that guy

  • yes but isn't a movie based on a book or graphic novel to be different? My best friend saw the movie and read the graphic novel and told me they are allmost identical

  • The point to making an adaptation like a book is to open the world up to a new audience. A major character death isn't going to change in a translation. They also said that they were planning on keeping it close to the original novel although there was a lot of cosmetic changes. The characters and the plot was very similar to the novel and only went through few changes.

  • You're definitely entitled to your opinion, although I disagree with you... but do you sincerely think this is almost as bad as ...*cringe*...batman and robin. That movie should be erased from superhero cinema history. I just think the movie probably just isn't for you.

  • Yeah! Brock was at the church to ask God for forgiveness, but in the film he asks him to kill Parker. WTF!

  • This is really odd that you've not read the BOOK (yes book not a comic), and yet you didn't feel lost, because most of the reviews of this film are saying the exact opposite, and I tend to agree. Not that I didn't like the film.

  • The comic is actually a character piece, like you were talking about. I mean, really, there are very few battles, cool powers, It's really about a bunch of people and their problems.

  • im so fucking glad you guys loved this movie :)!!

  • oh if you want to read a amazing comic you should read the "nausicaa of the valley of the winds" series ^^

i liked that movie too by the way lol

  • Dark Knight Returns has not aged well at all. Don't read that.

  • Are you and Stan brothers? You sound very similar.

  • We're Identical twins. No Joke.

  • Ah! Well that would explain it.

  • @darthgator007 They are.

  • Crap, I accidentally rated this a one instead of a five. Ah well, just posting to say that I enjoyed this review.

  • Sorry, but I am a big Spidey fan. I knew/know who Gwen Stacey is/becomes, and I know why the cathedral was chosen. Knowing that information still doesn't make Spider Man 3 any better. If anything knowing all that, and knowing what good stories can come out of the Spidey franchise makes the movie even WORSE.

    Bad example :P

  • Man, my friends had to drag me into this movie because I usually don't like superheroes but ... shit am I thankful that they did it! All the political background and the plot combined with badass action. How can you not love this!!!

  • YESS! TOTALLY AGREE! Thanks for your thougths on this outstanding movie which, sadly, seems to be underrated by most moviegoers.

  • I loved this movie

  • I'm sorry Matt, but for once I'm gonna have to say I didn't like this movie. I mean it's better than most movies around, but I've read the book and the movie seems either empty or just too colourful and actiony compared to the awesome story of the book. The book was british, the film was american (difference of culture had a lot of effect)

  • Thank you for posting this on youtube, its much easier to watch then on blip.

  • it actually sounds like matthew is having a conversation with himself... seeing as they are twins...

  • Nice, watched my way up to when you both say I should see the movie first, now that was all worthless xD

  • comic books are the driving media behind our current entrainment

even though comic book readers are treated like the red headed step children by other medias

  • Read the graphic novel. Its way better.

  • the book or grahpic novel is always better for movies based on them. ecept perhaps twilight they should make the movie as differnt from the booka s possible becuase the book sucks

  • My only complaint about this movie is how long the intro "credits" take... That's a fantastic feeling when that's the ONLY bad thing you can say about a movie :D

  • i love whoever made him review this.

  • WOW... what happened to your voice Matt?

  • it's stand in stan also

  • You two should really read the GN.

It's a lot better, and once you read the GN you won't like the movie as much anymore.

That's what happened to me atleast.

The movie is still great though,no matter what way you look at it.

  • agreed

  • You two really should read the graphic novel, it is far superior and the themes and character conflicts are more developed.

  • i really liked this film

  • On your Heroes comments - Heroes greatly, greatly took several huge parts of it's plot and concepts from Watchmen in season 1.

  • It was a good flick, the only things that i found wrong with it was the annoying slow-mo fights, and the owl ship sex scene...oh yeah and the ending..other than that it was a fun movie.

  • you guys should do an unrehearsed review of the Grinch with Jim Carey. ide love to hear your guy's opinions of it.

  • : / maybe... I need to watch the movie again, because um... well, the movie, at least compared to the book is terrible.

  • since you like the movie, do you plan on reading the comic, because the comic ending is totally different than the movie?

  • Music was incredible in the film,

The bit at the funeral where Simon and Garfunkel kicks in was just perfect.

  • I love this movie and this review, i always look forward to your guys reviews, and im glad you guys like this movie, its one of my favorates.

  • I still need to see this movie, and I've never read the comic book before.

  • Did you guys review the director's cut or the original release?

  • Finally, someone agrees with me, thanks Matt n Stan.

  • Agree 100%. Great movie.

  • I don't understand how anyone could like this bloated, self important piece of garbage. Blue penises don't bother me but just about everything else in this film does. No one should think of this as a film that sets a standard for anything. X-Men: The Last Stand and Spiderman 3 combined aren't as bad as this atrocious nightmare of a film.

  • I doubt it watchmen was awesome spider man 3 was one of the worst films ever.........the best spoof of a spiderman film was spiderman 3

  • What is it you doubt? Do you mean you disagree with me? Disagreeing and doubting are two completely different concepts but, no, Watchmen is far worse than Spiderman 3 because at least the latter had a sense of humor about itself whereas Watchmen is so busy telling itself it's the greatest thing ever it forgot about being in any way even remotely entertaining.

  • I doubt the validity of your opinion, and I disagree with you. But Watchmen is an awesome movie and don't say spiderman 3 knows how to make fun of itself because no movie should make a spoof of itself if its supposed to have a seriouse atmosphere and as for the self righteousness of watchmen Spiderman 3 was trying to keep 3 villains going at once and then try to bring them together at the end in what it thought was a clever ending.

  • What credentials qualify you to decide whether or not my opinion is any more or less valid than yours? Have any opinion you like but don't deny me mine.

Watchmen is neither awesome nor serious. It's incredibly awkward, unnecessarily violent, and coma-inducing. Spiderman 3 at least has the temerity to end around the two hour mark.

Watchmen is like a pretty girl who doesn't feel the need to exercise her brain: nice to look at but, ultimately, disposable and boring.

  • All I have is statistics. Most critics and fans of superhero movies far preffered watchmen and I wont deny your opinion I'll only defend one of my favourite films/books. Watchmen is serious. It has a serious point to get through about humanity and what it is and where its going. It wasn't overly violent there are far more violent films out there. If Spiderman 3 had gone over 2 hours it might have made better use of characters. Also you think a pretty girl is disposable? thats just weird..

  • Oh thank god, I love you guys

  • Hey Guys, Directors Cut is available on dvd

  • THANK YOU!!

I was so worried you'd hate this film. Thank you so fucking much. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I believed it was a masterpiece.

  • nice

  • Ugh. I'm dissapointed you guys liked this. It's really a horrible film adaption of the comic.

  • it is almost scene for scene besides the squid.

  • That actually didn't bother me.

  • Well, that's really your view of it, others love it, its a really great movie, you just have to turn off your brain and love it, its true to the novel and is just brilliant.

  • Actually, I think it's a completely superficial adaption of the novel which completely misses half the points it was trying to make.

  • Well, I'm dissapointed in the movie because it was missing the Tentacled-monster, I haven't read the novel, but I've read about them, and it was definately better than the movie.

  • @TheSilhouette

Why? Because it was too long for you? Because it had blue penis?

  • NO ONE should be afraid of blue penis

  • No, because it's just plain and simple a terrible movie.

The acting is horrible, the violence is completely gratuitous, stupid and adds nothing to the film, the action scenes are idiotic (might have worked in '300' but certainly not here), it's much too long, but at the same time feels rushed, the use of music was completely cheese-ball and arbitrary, and the production design was horrible.

I could go on, but I don't have enough room.

  • I agree that Silk Spectre and Night Owl were underwhelming, but the people who played Rorschach, The Comedian, and Dr. Manhattan did great jobs. The Violence is gratuitious? What did you expect from an adaptation of Watchmen? Was the violence in 300 too "gratuitious" for you? I can't stand it when people think a film is too long. Aren't you at the movie to have a good time? Where do you have to go? The music was awesome, with small exception of 99 Luft Balloons. That was a bit weird.

  • The only one who was any good at all was Rorschach. Everyone else was either barely passable or just plain bad.

Yes, the violence was gratuitous. If you read the book, you'd see that it wasn't nearly as violent. They even changed entire scenes (the little girl kidnapping scene for one) just to make them more violent. And besides, it was just stupid and fake looking anyway.

I haven't read '300', but I assume the violence in that film was more appropriate since it was about a gory battle.

  • And just because you don't think a film can ever be too long (ha!) doesn't mean other people can't think that. This film was obviously much too long and too packed.

Terry Gilliam (who was originally slated to direct it) said that it probably only work as a miniseries, and based on this film, I agree with him.

As for the music - it was like they just took a "greatest hits" list from the 70s and 80s and slapped it on top of the story. It was a completely shallow and arbitrary use of music.

  • I'll say this: the music in this film is comprised of some of the most arbitrary tunes I've ever heard strung together in a film.

Hearing "Unforgettable" in the same breath as "99 Red Balloons" was a surreal experience.

  • I agree. This movie was awesome, and I never read the comic before I watched it, though now I want to.

  • Watchmen cant be a series. It would ruin the whole dynamic. 1 story, 1 graphic novel, 1 movie is all it should ever be.

  • its the book that changed comics... happy you guys liked it.

  • only one character had superpowers... I really should watch this movie nao :P

  • Hrm, wish you had read the comic. Not necessarily before seeing the movie, but would've been interesting if at least one of you had read the comic afterwards and you could comment on what you thought of the movie having read the original comic.

  • Watchmen is the only comic I've ever read, but I highly recommend it. It's better than the movie because the movie has to leave out so much. I'd say Watchmen is a comic book first - the movie is only a pretty decent approximation of it. Watchmen really is a work of art.

  • it was good, but no, it wasn't 16 hours good

  • @ :03 this is going to be a much more optimistic and friendly review than our review of The Love Guru

    understatement of the year.

  • LOL "blowed" FAIL

  • Dark knight returns is a sort of brother to Watchmen, the first two truely compeling stories. You should at least read Watchmen. It transends mear comics.

  • Take my advice; read the graphic novel. The movie is a great movie, but the graphic novel is a true masterpiece, with the story themes, the character interactions, and even the panel layouts all challenging the idea of what a graphic novel can be, and presenting an experience you can find something new in every time.

Oh, and for the record, there's no "The" in the title. It's just Watchmen.

  • Agreed. The movie really doesn't do the graphic novel justice, some of my favorite parts (most notably the Rorschach/Psychiatrist chapter) were missing or very abridged in the movie. I can't really fault the movie for that because if they included everything it would be like 5 hours long, but the graphic novel still is a better experience.

  • true but the movie was great for graphic novel takeoff you have to admit

  • The only problem I had with Watchmen is that they had to Slow-mo EVERY SINGLE SCENE!

  • Finally. thank you stan and mathew, i've been looking for an objective review of this movie and i totally agree

  • YEAH WOOT, 6th VIEW.

  • this movie was awesome

  • good movie.

  • loved this film. lot of people didnt but i found it consistently awesome
