I never played played Virtua Fighter, and this game looks really cool, so I'm gonna get this game (or at least the sequel).

I also dare say that there are more combos in Tekken 5 than in Virtua Fighter 5 (or 4) for that matter. From my memory of the move set-list from Tekken, those 10-move-chain-combos were ridiculous and there were several of them, not including the other dozens of move-sets. However, I think it takes more strategy and skill to put together the (not really all) limited move-sets of the VF fighters.

they really need to make throw escapes easier; its really annoying having the computer throw you all the time, but when you try to do it its like, impossible. How the fuck are you supposed to know what direction a throw is moving huh? i swear to fucking god, you need fucking precognition to be able to do throw escapes in Virtua Fighter 5, as even training mode isn't enough. And no defense drills at all, and you NEED them because the computer goes apeshit sometimes.

Since VF4 you're allowed to make multiple attempts to escape a throw. so it amounts to mashing throw and a direction at the same time in quick succession.

frankly, one button throw escapes can get irritating, although the timing introduced in SoulCal 3 made things slightly interesting.

Virtua Fighter 5 kicks ass; it takes the best elements of the 2D era in that it translates Garou; Mar of the Wolve's fighting engine into 3D beautifully, plus even upgrading it. To me, Virtua Fighter 5 is Garou; Mark of the Wolves' in 3D. Plus it adds a few innovations of its own. My only beef with the game is the incomplete training mode (NO defensive drills), and, the throw escapes. You need psychic power to do those fucking throw escapes, where the CPU seems to do them all the time!

The only realistic thing about the throw escapes is that in real life, you won't always know which direction you're going to be thrown, however, even in real life, centrifugal force and inertia are at LEAST going to give you some kind of preemptive sensory.

@Ronnock another thing about fighting games, and my dumbass only realized this NOW, is that too many people play them the way they do sparring or fighting, when obviously real world rules don't apply to most arcade fighting games, and, they only apply somewhat to sims like Fight Night Round 4. A fighting games is the developer's opinion of what fighting is, once you figure out their opinion, fighting games are a breeze to beat.

1) Figure out what the developer's opinion is.

2) Learn to time your moves in accordance to the game's fictional laws of physics.

Virtual Fighter would be a cool game, if the makers added some of the obvious things to it: being able to jump, faster combos, and a better variety of characters. The one thing i can say is i love how the camera zooms out right on time when the opponents are far from another. (Jacky owns!)

@Aelijah22 You can jump. The combos can get pretty ferociously fast, it's all relative to how fast you are. I agree that a few more arts could be added, but more characters doesn't mean better fighting--it could even lead to worse, because of balancing issues.

I was a big fan of tekken since tekken 3. because tekken was the only fighting game that i got my hands on. To be honest i did play VF1? or 2 (not sure) when i was young but i did not enjoy it. I believe it was because VF was too realistic and it was dead set boring to me as a young boy however tekken was entertaining because of it's unrealisticness. but now i cannot wait to get VF5!! VF5 rules!!

@thoroughbred765 you can mash buttons in any game only difference is in VF when you mash you wont win against a non masher, ever. VF also has way more moves per toon than tekken. And the reason there is no online on the PS3 version of VF is its Version A the 360 is Version B and there were a couple more versions that werent released on console. Also Final Showdown hasn't been confirmed for consoles yet but if/ when it is, odds are it will have online play. And I will be on both systems

There's few things as ridiculous as a Tekken fan claiming VF is unnoriginal.VF1 was the first 3Dfighting game and the first to introduce a sequential combo system.Tekken has copied many characters from VF: Nina is like Sarah and when VF had a drunken fighter soon Tekken created Lei.Feng Wei is like Lei Fei and so on.Tekken4 copied what VF3 did by adding walls and terrain undulation.T5 ripped off VF4Evo's Quest mode,ranking system and the character customization.The list goes on

@vainiomaki Now, I am a VF fan (albeit more recent and was a converted from Tekken and DOA), but one thing that Tekken--as a franchise--has on EVERY other popular fighting game is its control methodology. I think it's pretty ingenious to have the shape buttons correlate with the different limbs of the body.

Taka=Ganryu, El Blaze=King, Kage=Raven+Yoshimitsu, Eileen=Xiaoyu, Brad=Bruce+Steve, Vanessa=Marduk+Christie, Jacky=Paul+Law, etc. I say both Virtua Fighter and Tekken are great series, as I grew up on both and refuse to let either one go.

Actually, Taka made his debut in Virtua Fighter 3 for the Dreamcast. He never made the cut for Virtua Fighter 4 because AM-2 were having a difficulty in making in him fight properly.
