For the dumbasses who think this is played upon Garry's Mod: There is no HUD in Portal (normally) because Chell is never given an item_suit (which you spawn with on Ep1 and Ep2, and get at Kliener's Lab in HL2). Also, the aiming reticule is changed because the Portal Gun has it's own assigned reticule, instead of the default HL2 one, which changes depending on the weapon being held. And finally, if you didn't see the uploader's comments, it crashes the game if you try to enter a portal.

Portal is a source engine, it's actually "connected" WITH Half-Life 2, also

there are things called as "Source Modding", "Developer Console", or "Console Commands".

Also, if you put cheat 'Impulse 101" you actually get HUD + all weapons from half life 2, including Gravity gun. lolol pwnt!

@wildfire9012 Why? Set the maxplayers to 2 "maxplayers 2"(you have to type disconnect first because the background is a local server you're currently in. Then you type net_start(you create a local server), then you type map "mapname"(type maps* to get a list of them). Then you type sv_cheats 1. Then you type sv_timeout 9999999 to avoid clients from timing out sice it's designed to be singleplayer only. cl_timeout 9999 has to be typed in on all clients. Portals can not be created or crash.

I have played Half-Life 2 Episode 2 online using simple console commands, but it's buggy as hell, your model is an old somewhat beta player model, and npcs don't seem to clip with the players any more, and in some cases physics objects cause you to rocket through the floor when touched. And another thing, notice that the players health increases the same way it does in portal. Type give item_suit in portal and you can see for your self.

Ah two more things, you can see that they pick up one of the glados parts using E or the pickup button, you cannot do this in garry's mod without a swep, and you can notice that the chat has no names displayed, this occurs when a singleplayer source game tries to run a multiplayer chat command, it happens because there is no player name command input.

me and my friends do it through console, join a counter strike game or another source multiplayer game, go into console and find your ip, then open portal, start a game, open console, enter sv_lan 0, and have your friend type connect "youriphere" and he should be able to connect to your game. spawning him will require more codes but i dont remember them right now :P

@Rathause Well, that's a nice question, the simple fact that valve puts GetSinglePlayer(); in every piece of their code makes me unable to touch the portal's hitbox without crashing my game, And you can see in my HUD I do have a portal gun, But I never wielded it on this video, I've done some research recently and I had a hacky concept that makes you able to play portal online (almost) flawlessly, Scrapped it when I saw portal 2 was going to feature multiplayer, I could still make it eventually.
