@BrendaJChil I'll agree that on the wrong feet spurs can be a bad thing. If you watch closly this guy isn't jabbing or kicking but just pushing and getting the horse to yeild to leg pressure. Spurs are a training aid not a tool for abuse when used by the right people. I have a horse that if he has been off for a few months and you don't put spurs on 1. he isn't going to listen to you period the end 2 will buck if you bump him too many times. He's just one of those horses that sometimes needs them
@BrendaJChil Spurs are not used for speed and stabbing the horse. They are used to add finesse. It is extremely difficult for the hrose to add finesse to their movements without the use of a tool such as the spur which can pinpoint certain spots for leg cues. Less surface area, easier to understand which part of the body the rider hopes to control at the time.
@BrendaJChil Spurs are a training aid. My All-Around AQHA & APHA geldings are all spur-trained. By that I do not mean they are "tolerate" of excessive spur usage. My leg means go, my spur means stop. My leg left means bend to the inside and move the whole body to the right, while my left spur means a right pivot, and vise versa. Yes, I can have a perfect ride without them, they just add accuracy. People that use spurs correctly actually increase the communication with their horse.
who cares what his score was, he looked like he was having a blast!!!
