  • genius genius genius

  • I have just been entertained.

  • This rendition i brilliant. I just love her little Angus Young moment there at 3:55 : )

  • Great cover of this song, but does it capture the song's spirit as well as Shatner's? The debate will rage for generations.

  • Wow - how have I missed not seeing this! I have been listening to Adele this evening and comparisons with Kate Bush keep coming to mind both positive and negative.

  • @llanman Please do not compare the two...

  • I'd love to see a kate bush vs kate nash mashup

  • Also a beautiful homage to the late Alan Murphy, immortalized here on the image of the empty chair, the guitar, and the candle. RIP Alan, you are well missed!

  • I remember i was waiting for weeks, watching MTV for a glimpse of Kate...funny clip.

  • i love her, fantastic vocalist

  • A moment of pop genius. Everything is so right. Haven't heard it in so long, but love it so much...

  • 18 people were raised on mars.

  • @jadeisnutty That would account for their tiny heads.

  • @ggarlick46 and lack of understanding of good earthly music

  • "1983: After two years out of the limelight, she returned with Running Up That Hill".

Uh, if I'm not mistaken, RUTH was released in 1985, and her previous album "The Dreaming" was released in '82, so by MTV's incorrect calculations, it wouldn't have been two years out of the limelight. Who was responsible for doing the research over there?

  • @IAmPlaysWithSquirrel Call the police! Seriously, everyone - stop everything - THERE'S AN ERROR ON A 20 YEAR OLD TEXT BITE AND IT JUST WON'T DO!

  • i loved the line,"I miss my wife", imagine them making out

  • keith lemon on bass guitar!!!

  • @robpiercewrexham No, that is her long time bass player/co-producer/rumored lover, Del Palmer I believe....Someone will correct me if I am mistaken...

  • @TheDeebri55 im sorry its just my rubbish sence of humour, type in celebrity juice and you will get it ha ha pooooooootaaaaaaaatttttttooooo!!!!!

  • god, she would give a snowman a hard on

  • @inverterville Good one!

  • Cold as hell?! Is this supposed to be sarcasm?

  • hate this, but love kate :)

  • Love Kate. Wonder about the 'freedom of speech' thing sometimes but try not to give it too much thought. Hugs x

  • Pure magic, I'm so in love with her :p

  • Hey Kate haters - she and Elton are friends. I'm sure he had no problem with this.

  • What the hell was that???? Shatner's version was better than this!

  • YOU BLEW IT!!!!! nuff said.

  • you got a wife, rocket man?? nuff said.

  • @MrMan17419 she did justice to it nuff said

  • I love this song. The video is really bad.

  • Kate you are so great may you be blessed my friend..

  • @henrycaville Wasn't "Running Up That Hill" from 1985? I remember MTV insisting on showing Kate's Wogan performance instead of the music video, since the video was judged "too sexual." And NOW look at MTV!

  • Mayve somebody asked before but what is the instrument that guy plays about 3:00 in the vid?

  • @nmm2122 Are you talking about the uillean (sp?) pipes?

  • Just brilliant and beautiful ...stunning musicianship, wonderful vocal performance (as ever), lovely reggae - ish feel. Performances like this really make life richer !

  • Every schoolboy's dream...

  • who is this?

  • @lakemead00 Kate Bush ,pop artist legend for the last 33 years.

  • Great version.

  • the empty chair represents Alan Murphy - a wonderful guitarist who is sadly gone

  • @robhazelton ye that was a nice touch for Alan great guitarist, iam big level 42 fan and was shocked by his death, nice to see somebody mention this, a lot of people would not have known this.

  • the empty chair with the guitar is in memory of Alan Murphy - great guy and amazing guitarist - you are missed buddy

  • I first heard this on a channel on a flight to India where it played on repeat fro the entire flight. I listened the entire way a drank the free wine. A year of travelling began with this song and it will always be special to me.

  • gostei

  • This is art

  • i love kate bush but this is not anywhere near eltons version, this reggae thing is not workin at all :-(

  • IN-COM-PARABLE.

  • my son and her son were born the same day same year, and in in 1979 she went to tiger cuts balmain in sydney and I gave her my hair for extensions - very weird.

  • Love the groove of the drum and bass...and then her voice and all those nice irish instruments.... Love it!

  • when i was young my dad would pretend that he's such a excpert in "good" music, he would worship rolling stones and u2....i probably now still does....

just listen to them, all their lyrics is about rainman, kelter skelter or another saturn-satan crap....

they never will create songs about Tesla or Reich...just sad people....

Kate's songs not manipulative....her songs are real and unique.

  • Prefer this version to any other.Thank you Kate.x

  • lovely, lovely lady

  • Nice inclusion of the ukulele there Kate.

  • Again an outstanding masterpiece of adorable Kate ! Hmmhh - thought that was just yesterday - and now it's nearly twenty years old ;-)) Anyway - brilliant song ! That girl has more sex appeal than a bunch of lightly clad twens !

  • 2:35, 3:05, 3:29, R.I.P Alan Murphy!

  • Great cover of a classic! She brings her own distinctive talent to it, celebrating not undermining the original. Isn't she marvellous? And Elton has a superb new album The Union, with Leon Russell.

  • Wunder- wunderschön !!!

  • I always liked this song with sung by Elton, but I also love this version by Kate ... truly beautiful.

  • This version does total justice to the song.

Kate Bush never did/does anything by half measures.

Where else are you going to get a reggae version of a classic pop song with a few Irish "folk" instruements thrown in for good measure?

Total genius..I love the fact that she explores at least one aspect of World Music on each of her albums and again, gets it!

  • Kate won popular recognition for her version of the song Rocket Man as "best cover" and it received widespread attention and worldwide airplay (along with compliments from Elton John). Her high energy performance and whimsical vocals infuse the lyrics with a far less woeful tone and reinterpret them into a much more philosophical and introspective message. Another terrific job by the unique, masterful, and beautiful Kate Bush.

  • Rabid - Try watching some of the numerous interviews with her available online. Try reading more about her career as an artist. Try doing a little background investigation on Kate in general before shooting your mouth off about "sticking to the truth" and so on. Those fans who have followed Kate since the 70s will recognize my statement about Kate as a shy and modest artist as common knowledge. Nuff said.

  • @RipleyE79 lol dude couldn't have put it better KB 4 ever

  • Absolutely stellar talent and she shows it with other's material as well with this song as proof. Thanks for the posting CHF.

  • Who else could cover and then turn such a famous song into something new?

    Kate Bush?

    What a brilliant woman!

  • Great voice....mithic artist....very bad version

  • Don't like the fake backing vocal singers lip-synching to Kate Bush. Kate is doing the BVs, but the director put those other two women in...why? To make it more palatable? As if Kate couldn't possibly be responsible for the BVs? UGH! I'm surprised she let this pass. I blame Elton.

  • The chair with the guitar and candle was a tribute to her guitarist, Alan Murphy, who died of AIDS at the age of 35.

  • It's 1991 and 80's style suits and hair (men+women) are barely hanging on in this thoroughly enjoyable video. Kate's contribution to a tribute album to Elton John.

The rather bored looking gent sitting down with the uilleann pipes on his lap is none other than the great Davy Spillane, don't know him? Well google him and have a listen to some of his music.

    Endlessly watchable isn't it... -:)

  • I love her vocals, but I can't stop wincing at her pretend ukelele strumming.

  • @ShaqPlaque She's doing that on purpose ... she's a very theatrical performer and would be the first to admit that she looks like a dork there. She was probably just having fun with the vibe. Same with spaceman outfit and the fake conducting.

  • @stinkstank I like the other dramatic stuff you mention. I think the reason the ukulele bugs me so much is it makes me try to isolate the ukulele's sound and it's just so so far off from the way she's playing it. It's the same suspension of disbelief problem I'd have if she were lipsynching poorly.

  • kate bush is the best :) shes my favourite singer <33 i love this video! her hair looks amazinggg~!!

  • Aww tooo Good!!

  • amazing Kate your the best .

  • love this version its great!

  • @DBag1212 A well balanced and thought full appreciation of the artists work there DBag1212. IRL are you a music journalist perhaps?

  • @DBag1212 You obviously don't get real artistic talent, so here is something pitched at your level-

You sound like a motherfuckin rapper

I'd like to flush you down the crapper

Motherfuckin hoodies like to think they're fuckin king

Only bad vocalists who can't fuckin sing

  • @DBag1212 and you should kill yourself for fucking with the English language! wtf was that supposed to be? gangsta text speak??

  • @ktmcmc LOL...perfect reply :-)

  • Absolutely brilliant! The best cover of this amazing song...Perhaps even better than the original version itself. Kate Bush is a goddess!

  • I love Kate Bush , she is so strange and beautiful and her music is amazing!!!!!

  • dude, she ate a broom, can't dance and the voice... mm is somewhat lousy but.... the reggae rhythm is cool! the results is ROFLing!!!!!

  • @deplo well...the last thing u can tell about kate bush is the she cannot dance. Check her concert videos or Running up the hill video....as far as her voice goes...well, hate it or love it, I love it :-)

  • @ppzav Oh? Have u checed out the vid to 'Rubberband Girl?" she can dance...

  • @MrDewy14 is that dancing???

  • @deplo - she studied Mime, did her own form of dancing. Also has Martial Arts influence. She was her own.

  • Love, love, love this woman

  • shut up all of you haters, your obviously not intelligent enough to appreciate her magic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • not to mention she looks like a retard in this video

  • @EdwardNygma1 Oh, Edward, go cut yourself and bleed to death some where. You're a moron.

  • @keithdeweese I'd rather not. It's not my fault she sings this song ridiculously. She sounds all nasaly and idiotic.... And she sings this song that is supposed to be sung by a MAN. It is from the perspective of a MAN. She could have at least changed it, and the way she changed the tone and beat of the song is just awful. And they she dances around like an idiot with that stupid little guitar....

  • 3.46 -- the guitar and candle on a chair are a tribute to the song's guitarist Alan Murphy, who died.

  • Well outa tune bass player....why was that allowed to happen ? Too much shagging Kate ?

  • Half of the current female popstars should be shown this or in fact anything by the wonderful Ms Bush. It's not all about stripping to your undies whilst dancing provocatively and having your vocals being cleared up with the help of auto tune! Arise Dame Kate Bush!

  • GOOD one!!

  • Her hair is so long! jealous. haha of everything about her of course:)

  • Amazing. Her vocals are so beautiful, and the song seems to fit with her whole persona. Of course, I'm also partial to the Shatner version. :)

  • Truly amazing. Why did Elton have to ruin it! Stop all these stupid covers.

  • WOW!

  • it's...amazing!

  • KaTe is just an absolute genius. A gift to us all. Ultimate woman. Ideal. Pinnacle.

    Thank you, KaTe!

  • Oh wow this version is great , I have not heard it for a while . 10/10 Great bagpipes as advised alcamus1973 !

  • @74posy they're not bagpipes, they're Uilleann pipes :) they're Irish

  • i love this song and i love kate bush but the best thing about this is davy spilane

  • She won popular recognition for her version of the song Rocket Man as "best cover" and it received widespread attention and worldwide airplay (along with compliments from Elton John). • well said.

  • She is great, but why she is off the rhytm ? Dancing/moving much faster.

  • I think its called artistic licence lol!

  • well, it is alright :)

  • GORGEOUS woman and rare talent!!X

  • this woman is one of the most gifted musicians going.

  • WAS

  • In your opinion.

  • you can download on mp3ify

  • Why is this not on iTunes? Rights issue?

  • Buy the original CD, bypass iTunes! You can do that, you know.

  • Much better then the original.

This woman is endleesly creative and unique!

  • Fabulous! Wish I could download this track!

    Kate is the best!

  • she is the sexiest woman in the world.fact.

this song is better than eltons by far

  • @phildog1960 nah dawg this cover is alright its not as good as sir elton johns and never will be.

  • @phildog1960 STFU FOOL

  • Yes, It`s better than the original, Kate is the best..

  • i think it's better than the origial

  • shatner is more attractive and has more power vocals

  • Well, I think we can all at least agree that this is better than William Shatner's version.

  • @cherifchel LOL

  • @cherifchel Disagree

  • @WKaliberr You know what, you're totally right! Kate looks like friggin' bum next to Shatner's tux ;)

  • @cherifchel OMG! WS did this? Please tell me you ARE joking?...Please x

  • @cherifchel Can we? J/K I love this version. . .

  • Is the piper chewing gum at 3:24?

  • Strongly prefer the original.

  • i guess i was raised on the elton john version so im kindof freaking out right now. sorry i just dont get it..

  • A lovely tribute to Alan Murphy. A very talented man few people even know about.

  • im kindof confused but how is ej's rocket man a tribute to alan murphy?

  • @1dudeman2

The original by Elton wasn't a tribute to Alan Murphy. Alan used to play guitar for Kate Bush before he died. The guitar and burning candle on the Kate Bush video for Rocket Man is a tribute to Alan.

  • I'll add she is so beautilful as well and this is coming from a gay guy lol :-)

  • go Kate, you're amazing :-)

  • one of those rare re-do's that eclipses the original...

& a rare & quirky vid too! .. thanx for da upload ;)

  • Kate is in fact a rather shy and modest person. Her focus as an artist has always been on capturing the messages in her music through her dynamic portrayal of characters in her performances, rather than on her looks. Indeed, her ethereal beauty along with her captivating vocals and highly personalized lyrics bring tremendous power to her many works of musical art. We will not see or hear another like her--she is a unique talent and a rare music phenomenon.

  • @RipleyE79 I'm constantly amazed at how many people, who make comments, appear to know so much about people that I'm fairly certain they have never even met before.

My question to you RipleyE79 is...how the hell do you know? You say in 'fact 'whos facts are they? I'm all for leaving a comment like ' this song is great and beautiful,I wonder if Kate Bush is a shy and modest person...etc.' but you go on like your her best friend or therapist. How about sticking to the truth and the music.

  • @RipleyE79 you should write her obituary

  • Shes an individual talent unlike many of the current scene who do whats expected of them.

  • Comment removed

  • What on earth do you mean she is hung up on her beauty? Its probably comments like that that cause her to withdraw from public life. She is simply a beautiful talent.

  • This is interesting.. I never wrote those words nor do I believe them.

  • Kate is a pure artist as you may know by History.. they never become social. We can only love her art.. But never be blessed to see her anymore...

  • Kate Bush must rank as one of the best female artists to come out of the Seventies music scene. Her brand of music was just so unusual and just like marmite - you either love it all or simply hate it. Well, I love marmite! Kate Bush's music still sounds as Wow as ever and this Elton John standard has never sounded better. Only wish kate would come out of retirement and play one more time for her fans.

  • She must rank as one of the best artist to come to the music scene ever. Period.

  • still like her sound :=)

  • Love this version!

    XD

  • this verson sucks

  • I think some people just go through you-tube vids and say everything "sucks" just for something to do.

  • i love this version by Kate Bush. it has that happy sad feels to it.

  • This seems almost like a piss take at first when she starts playing the ukelele. But Its actually genius. I love it. its her voice that makes it. She could sing anything and sound like an angel. I know it sounds cheesy.

  • Best version of this song.

  • alan murphy rip

  • I personally think that the songs lyrics and the style of singing contradict. The song is sort of a song of lonliness and a bit of sadness, whereas the upbeat music and her high pitch make it seem happy. still pretty good though.

  • beauty and harmony

  • Kate my wife and I love you so much if ever you want to take a trip to Okinawa please stop by..We will give you the time out you want and some great BBQ..

  • can't work out who's the most talented - Sophie Ellis Bextor or Kate Bush

  • Britany Spears is just a pure musical genius, makes Mozart look like an absolute idiot really
