  • holy shit so funky, i wish i coulda been there

  • Phish is to the Talking Heads as Mitt Romney is to Iggy Pop, as Herman Cain is to Jimmy Hendrix, as Rick Perry is to Oscar Wilde........................

  • Tina lookin' very pretty!

  • @00bikeboy

She's a doll at least back then. Check her out on Live Rome -- Take Me To The River ...where Tina is scurrying on stage (in a diaphanous dress) to leave her piano and run 50 ft to pick up her bass. Then watch what happens as the tune kicks off w the two bass players.

  • Byrne wears flares

    that's BOSS

  • You two DUDES fighting over who is better "Phish"or "Talking Heads".Get over yourselves. They both kick ass,and you don't have to be some scumbag hippie to appreciate either of them.Plus, who cares when you become a fan of any kind of music or band. Why does it matter? My cars better than yours. My house is better than yours.I've been a fan since before they were even a band.Grow up.

  • @ciaphascain1919 good call Young man!

Might I add......my dads bigger than your dad!...

    just a thought!

    One Love!

  • adrean belew is from another planet...

  • @comment to rigby33 Bryne was never addicted to Heroin. He also didn't steal money from hippies. That's what Trey does every show during phantasy tour, ya Trustafarian.

  • I heard Phish play a cover of this song at Superball IX, and decided to look them up. Very cool, downloading now

  • @rigby333 wow dude, I listened to phish all through out high school but, before I started listening to phish I knew about the talking heads before phish. If you really just heard the Talking Heads for the first time at super ball you are jabrone/rookie!!! I bet your favorite phish song is, heavy things. Don't even respond back please. David Byrne is far better musician and guitarist than trey will ever be brahh!!

  • @skirasta06 Wow, what an asshole. It's music, not a competition brahh!!

  • byrne and belew are singing in unison yet all i hear is tina and the other singer. i suppose byrne and belew sound so similar that their voices cancel out

  • I'd trade my thumbs to see them back then

  • swagtastic.

  • WAIT! IS THAT THE FZ/HENDRIX STRAT?!?!

  • WHOA! ADRIAN BELEW!!!

  • ufb- stands for Un F+++king Believable!

  • I constantly beg my band @TheLoveLoungers to cover this, one day I'll finally convince them! What a killer combo of genre splicing!

  • Any band with two basses is the undisputed champion

  • AMAZING

  • and damn, this song

  • THE NAME OF THIS BAND IS TALKING HEADS, NOT 'THE' TALKING HEADS.

  • They played this stuff from remain in light at Heatwave in Canada that summer.

Belew was not there but they still changed a lot of thinking with what they were able to

do. Punks, new music enthusiasts and all of the rest of that "play some Stones, man! crowd" changed their views on what was exceptional music that day. Following them was Costello, not an easy thing to do but Elvis was King! 5 encores. Felt bad for The Kinks who had to close. I know that they filmed the show. Never seen.

  • Not only are they fun to watch, but their musicianship fucking incredible.

  • the island of doubt, is like the taste of medicine

  • This is such a great band, Belew is so good, adds that spark, they're all into it, really clicks, such great rhythms.

    Thanks for this video.

  • Great in so many ways, but Adrian Belew really kills.

  • very awesome tune here..check out Phish' cover of it they rip it

  • i wish this was my theme song whenever i entered a room.

  • 4:30, the licks Buster Jones adds on the bass lines are awesome

  • Actually, the cowbell in this is just about right.. -Henry Swanson

  • ripping guitar and that rythm is freaking addictive.....love it very much....

  • 3:40 !!!

  • Amazing...

  • Tina Weymouth is the hottest woman that ever lived bar none.

  • @hairymarx Yeah, plus she is a great musician...for me that's molten.

  • Brilliant and perfect.

  • ♪♫♥²↑⁀⁀☼ ;-j

  • R.I.P. Busta Jones

  • Someone needs to bring the chickenwalk back. I saw Byrne last year and even he doesn't do it anymore :(

  • Incredible, one of the most interesting bands ever at the top of their game, along with Adrian Belew tearing it the fuck up. Brilliant, everlasting, astonishing and you can dance to it. (Byrne once said he believes almost everyone dances inside their houses alone. I think it's true.)

  • Absolutely combustible. Incredible how the performance seems to hit one high point after another. The crowd sounds like it is absolutely losing their shit...

  • always respected the TH because I love all the songs that phish has covered by them......went to superball 9 and watched one of their concerts on the big screen.....holy fucking talent

  • people wen't nuts after Adrian Belew's thing at 3:52

  • just fan-tastic!! thanks for posting!

  • asidfaskdklf fuck this is just good. just really really good.

  • Wasting away That was their policy I'm ready to leave I push the facts in front of me Facts lost Facts are never what they seem to be Nothing there No information left of any kind Lifting my head Looking for danger signs The island of doubt Is like the taste of medicine Working from hindsight Got the message from the oxygen Making a list Find the cost of opportunity Doing it right Facts are USELESS in emergencies
  • Adrian Belew Son!

  • Thank god for David Byrne and his band of righteous gypsies! When did popular music turn to SHIT?!?! I would kill a puppy if I could go to one of these shows! ...well, maybe not MY puppy, but a...

  • mitici.. cazzo io stavo a Roma ma avevo solo 6 anni !

  • I saw them live twice that I can recall. Totally different shows but equally awesome. I remember Jerry Harrison in the first concert. He looked like the bride of frankenstein. Very intense attitude on display.

The Talking Heads with The B-52s - Armadillo World Headquarters (Austin, TX) - September 16, 1979

Second time was a fluke of sorts. They performed at a tiny bar in southwest Houston and I had the good sense to go with a buddy.

Talking Heads - Rockers (Houston, TX) - September 8, 1982

  • GEM

  • David Byrne at 3:37 , clasic! :P

  • Crikes!

  • 20 people are obviously in pain...

  • Six flapjacks to the person who can link to a video of a current band that swings like these slinky ass muh'fucks

  • @Senatorcraigz LOL. Too true. The dictionary definintion of "groovey". Pretty interesting that the Heads are primarily thought of as a "New Wave" band when their roots are actually funk. The rythym section is usually the base for their tunes.

  • @Senatorcraigz The All Mighty Senators and Supersonic Soul Pimps are almost as funky as David Byrne. But not quite.

  • @Carex09 All Mighty Senators, no doubt thats some funy music!

  • @AxelSETZO *FUNKY music..

  • @AxelSETZO Are you from Maryland? I was not expecting to see AMS mentioned in a Talking Heads thread! They rock tho!

  • @dpeab11370 haha! actually im living in Paris.. Im only a funky boy

  • @AxelSETZO And i thought AMS was just local Baltimore, D.C., Virginia band! Seen them so many times in Baltimore i can hardly count! Love that funky shit!

  • @Senatorcraigz nothing comes close!

  • Mind blower.

  • adrian's guitar skill sick !

and david is out of control

  • 1:30 is just fuckawesome

  • Btw I was wondering have any of you guys heard a version of Psycho Killer with an electric guitar (not acoustic that is) and what sounds like a drum machine being played to it. I've heard electric versions of it with acoustic drum kit but none with the electronic kit or at least an acoustic kit that is a very simple beat that almost sounds electronic?

  • @ripcurl979 the "stop maling sense" version

its an acoustic, accompanied by a boombox playing the beat

  • Thank you!!!!

  • 'Stop Making Sense' blew my mind, I didn't think there was a better live performance by the Heads then 'Life During Wartime' on that. I was wrong, this performance is incredible, all thanks to Mr. Belew.

  • die sennerin vom köngisee

  • die sennering vom königsee

  • WOW, THAT ROCKS! Heads with Belew, it is as tight as Zappa Jazz. I own all of the Heads albums and yet I have to tip my hat to Youtube and people like you (tpatgod2007) who upload these phenomenal performances. Thank you for keeping great music alive.

  • 1:35 - Byrne thinks Belew's after electrocuting himself or something!

  • Can someone please post "Nothing but Flowers"?

  • L-L-L-Lookin for the, danger siiiign!

  • The talking heads were so ahead of their time. On a separate note, if you want this video to reach over 1 million views, just rename it to Justin Beiber or Hanna Montana or something. Or hell rename it to Talking Heads Live in Rome HUGE BOOBS. That oughta get some hits!

  • @bongsc2

    unfortunately that's so true

  • @bongsc2 I disagree, they were timeless!

facts are simple facts are straight!

facts are lazy facts are late!

  • yes talking heads. coolest band from late 70's.

  • Byrne and Belew are the coolest goofy white dudes ever.

  • @gtralisfr69 trey, mike, page, fish

  • transcendental

  • One of my biggest regrets is not seeing Talking Heads live. So sad....

  • one of the best bands ever...one of the best funk bands ever

i can't believe that the is under a million views...all these videos from Italy are fantastic. all as good as the jonathan demme stuff, for sure. not to knock those, but these are raw and real....

  • tpatgod2007 c godi a disattivare quando condividono? povero coglione!!

  • gimme a whatever, I just wanna be on stage!

  • If I could be in any band ever, I would want to be in this band. Gimme a tambourine; I just wanna be on that stage man!

  • this should be studied at school...

  • Damned entertaining too.

  • Thanks again for posting these clips, man.

  • You can hear where the LCD Soundsystem and the Rapture got there sound from.

  • 素敵にダサい(笑)

    いいなぁ~

  • @shiroishinokyouhu ..My deepest condolences to you and all of Japan...hope you are doing well !!

  • Brian Eno put this touring band together I love the 4 at the core but this lineup is cooking

  • This is one of the best live-concert videos I have ever come across - this band was straight nasty back in the day!

  • Talking heads with good msuiicans= good msuic

    Belew is God !

  • tina weymouth...what a babe

  • I think Adrian Belew had more fun on this concert than he ever did on any of King Crimson :)

  • just so freakin sick

  • Ah, so good. Just, wow. What a great performance.

  • Seen them live on this tour..nothing like it!!

  • I bought a DVD of this show off Amazon and it was a total pirate copy. It starts after the credits, and the Rai Doc tag is covered up. This track on youTube looks and sounds better. Does anyone know how to get the REAL version?

  • BUSTA JONES MAKES IT SOUND SOOOO PHAT!!

  • Thank You Brian Eno !

  • adrien belew , played with zappa didn't he? i'm pretty darn sure of it!!!!!

  • @MrKingkirby yep he sung Flakes on the Sheik Yerbouti album

  • @TheKunig thanks for the 411 !!! how could i have missed it !!!!!

  • @MrKingkirby

he did. he was the vocalist and on sheik yourbouti. there is a video with him singing on jones crusher.

  • Dave ... PunkyFunkyGroove ... loveLoveLLLLOvvveeeeee .. amazing BAND!!!

  • I love what they became at this point. Awesome music.

  • Just an opinion, but I think most these songs lose their twitchy high-energy feel live. Too loose.

    Much prefer the record versions.

  • @huthut91 To some degree yes. But they gain in other areas. Overall I think the live versions do Justice to the original while being their own entities.

  • the island of doubt is like a taste od medicine!!!

    working by hindsight, ........................

yes, i am stillllll waiting, stillllll waiting, stillllll waiting.

  • Fuckin astounding !!!!

  • Amazing music

  • Oh thanks Adrian i had swimmers ear and it's all better now. got the water out plus some brain residue.

  • I rhink and i'm fairly sure this is how nerds boogie. I should know. Get 'em artfruits. Facts are lazy ....

  • Experiencing this in my youth was priceless. This takes me back to the absolute best of times.

  • Shame about the compression. Would love the original.

  • two bass players? crazy

  • 19 people have lost their shape.

  • @smegmasaurus 20 now.... i guess they were trying to act casual.

  • @smegmasaurus .. I am still waiting ...30 years later and I am still waiting for someone to top this, I saw them twice on that tour, 1000s concerts later, still easily among the best shows I ever saw

  • @Daniel3NT I dont know if anyone can top this but if you like this youd prolly like phish they also cover this and there originals can get dark and funky like TTH -2 cents

  • @smegmasaurus

21 people now to be exact =P

  • This whole concert is fucking incredible. Thanks so much for posting it!

  • it's a fantastic song and Adrian Belew's guitar takes it to a higher level, the icing on the cake. One of the things I love most about this performance is the communication between the musicians and with the audience, and David Byrne's great dancing!

  • 19 people are still waiting

  • I can't handle it. I can't stop watching it! Nothing compares to this... pure creativity, risk-taking, beauty! BTW, the person who had the nerve to write that he/she"think s this sucks"... you should hope to suck so much in one lifetime let alone a mere 10 minutes of your life...

  • during this time chris franz and weymouth wanted belew as the new talking heads frontman. imagine.

  • @UrbanGuerilla88 Whoa. Did not know this...

  • i would trim that band down 1 drummer, 1 bass, 1 percussion. 1 cowbell there is to0 much crap going on.

  • @hetjaar

    yeah good idea

    pause

    not

  • @hetjaar ....You've obviously never heard Frank Zappa before. Look him up.

  • From one of their greatest LP's. A real masterpeice.

  • this has got to be the best live song ever and this is the Heads at their peak

  • @mrpeterames This is when they sucked. Talking Heads 77 was their peak.

  • @CatapultYourMom Fail.

  • @CatapultYourMom

I have to agree, the 77 lineup was 'cleaner' and tighter. Love this band but it sometimes sounds a bit messy...Adrian Belew's guitar noise ruins most of the songs as well.

  • EPIC

  • Two bass players!!! whaaat:)

  • as a phish head i can say that this version kicks so much ass!! i can see where phish got a lot of their influence, and why they would cover the entire remain in light album halloween of '96! for all you talking heads fans who havent checked it out, go to phishows dot com and download (for free) that show, they really do it justice. and this isnt spam, this is a PSA for good music!!

  • I dont think they do any drugs at all....

  • I just played this for my 7 week old son, Ben, and he assures me that he will play guitar like Adrian Belew one day. Fantastic!!!!!

  • oh man we used to just dance and dance and dance round our flat to this when I was a teenager !

  • wow @ 1:30 shit hits the fan

  • Tina looks so hot in this concert!

  • 2010 - still waiting...

  • nice! a stack of roland jazz chorus amps......

  • gänsehaut pur,better than fu..

  • Eccezionali!!!!!

  • incredible clip. the energy just oozes with every note played. big thumbs up to the poster...

  • Awesome!

  • so so good

  • frikkin awesome

absolute top of form, from one of the best bands touring on possibly their best album

    so so good

  • @tpatgod2007 You missed "The Great Curve" from your tracklisting

Well done for posting though. This is the greatest performance I've ever seen from a live band. I just wish I was there instead of one of those Italian rockers.

  • AWESOME... makes me sad about the pathetic state of music today.

  • Talking Heads.....King Crimson....two favs...Belew with T-Heads...genius!!

  • why is the camera man fixated with belew all thro this gig? if it was me i wouldn't have got any further than Tina

  • viendo sin ser visto Talking Heads

  • Yeah....that's all I gotta say

  • that yoga instructor is one of the best guitarists i've ever seen in my liiiiiiiife

  • WOW! As much as I love David Byrne and the rest ... Adrien Belew is just flat out fucking awsome!!!! Many thanks for turning me on to this concert!!!! I really want this on DVD.
