  • The problem with the fortwo 451 is not power from the engine, it's the transmission. Notice how the speed stops increasing for several seconds while the transmission shifts. Most of the power and RPMs are lost between shifts. Your 12 second run there is about the same as a stock fortwo. There are rumors that Veloce doesn't actually do any tuning, and that they just keep your ECU for a few weeks and then ship it back.

  • @foxmajik I drove a fortwo 451 - 1.0L today. I would say it does the same 0-60 as this video. But it doesn't sound as stressed as the video. I would leave tuning alone. I would say that the Smart Fortwo 1.0L is a lot faster than other small cars with 1.0-1.2L engines.

  • sounds like a lawn mower

  • Is this also with gearbox tuning, or just engine tuning?

  • My smart forfour feels like it can do 0-60 in around 8 seconds... 1.3 engine softouch, kicking down and sports start...

  • They aren't shit boxes but with the competition like a Pruis, VW TDI anything or the new VW Up! Lite which all get the same MPG with four doors and are quicker, it really is pointless to get one of these things. The mk6 TDI Golf does 0-60 in 9 seconds stock and gets the same if not better MPG without all the laughs. You could probably tune the hell out of one of these things and get passed by a woman in a Grand Caravan making a lane change

  • Who modifies a Smart car? Wouldn't that make it a dumb car?

  • how much do these lunch boxes cost

  • @atgskater14 Twelve grand base, fifteen nicely equipped.

  • these things are shitboxes, people please stop buying them. THEY LOOK LIKE A GOLF CART AND ARE SLOW STOP TRYING TO MAKE THEM FAST.

  • i hate the shift delay. its like they're trying to make it sound like their automatics are 5 speeds. it just makes it slower.

  • @sideburns2009 They *are* five speed...

  • yawn... oh i fell asleep did it finally make it to 60?

  • I've got a 3300 pound car that goes 0-60 in 5 seconds flat - AND IT'S TOO SLOW.

  • smart car is the most dangerous car in the market i would take safety over gas any day

  • Simply put, you don't know what you're talking about. The 451 is one of the safest cars on the road today. Do a little research.

BTW, I would say behemoths like the Hummer1 are DANGEROUS.

  • w w w . safeandsmart . c o m

It's a great source by the way.

You've got it on the opposite, the smart is safer than many of the cages that the US DOT allows on our roads

  • very nice acceleration and speed for this car, btw i saw one of these pass me on the highway at 90mph

  • thats sadd my boys smart car with hyabusa motor does 0-60 in 5.4 with both of us n the car, and goes over 120

  • i didnt even think they were that fast

  • Since it shows D, I assume it's the US 71HP. In Europe there's a 61, 71, 84, 98 and 111HP versions (the last two by Brabus), in adition to the diesel (45hp)

  • is it a 84ps or 71? thnx

  • i belive dodg has a full electric care thats supposed to have a 0-60 of 4 seconds flat. cant remember the name...anyone?

  • Great vid... gives me hope. I am waiting to hear back from Dino on some questions related to warranty after remapping.

  • In D the car shifts slower than in manual, did you notice difference? I saw a dutch 451 brabus test and from 0 to 85 MPH there was a difference of almost 4 seconds, really!

  • The car shifts lower in automatic mode to maximize fuel economy, but the computer electronically limits the RPMs at which the transmission is allowed to perform a shift, so if you rev up the engine high in manual mode and then hit the shifter, the computer won't trigger the shift cam to select a new gear until the engine goes down to the same RPM at which the car would have shifted automatically.

  • Very interesting, I never knew this. Seems to explain the shift lag I have heard. Is there a way of getting round this?
