Full size it has less recoil, I also have big hands. The c seems to be cheaper. I'm going to watch more vids, I'm digging the ruger mark 3. It doesn't have alot of power :/ , I love the way it looks.
@BassFIow A press check is when you grasp the slide by the muzzle end and retract it just enough to see if there is a round in the chamber without ejecting it.
For CCW, you should consider the grip size more than the slide length, as that's the most difficult part to conceal. (when wearing inside the waistband at 4 o'clock)
I'm really considering this gun for my ccw I was wonder how long is the slide on compact and how much longer is the slide on full size model. Tnks chuck.
@beetlesuzuki72 I don't have access to the full size right now, but my suggestion is to get the measurements from Rugers website and mock them up on a piece of paper.
I removed the mag disconnect on my sr9, and it makes the weapon much easier to use. There are several how to vids on you-tube.It was a pain having to empty a mag every time I wanted to dry-fire the gun.Ruger makes great guns, even if they are overly p.c. with all of their safety features.
@montoymufasa Try to find a range that rents guns. From what I hear, the .40 is less recoil than most in its class, but that's just rumor until you try it.
Both are fine weapons, I myself have a SR9c.....and I love it. But.....I have a question. in your video, I noticed that on both weapons the loaded chamber indicator was visible. Why did you do a review or comparison video with 2 loaded weapons? Im not trying to be an asshole, but thats pretty unsafe dont ya think? Im just saying....
Do you think the crimson and trace laser for the sr9c. Will fit on the sr9? They don't make it for the sr9 yet and is only made for the crimson and trace for the compact
@mattdeal09 No idea, those crimson trace lasers are just not something I want to spend my limited funds on. Give them a call or send them an email, I'm sure they would get back to pretty quick. The rail on the compact is short, so your options for lights and lasers are going to be less. Also, check cheaperthandirt, they have good selection as well as good descriptions and user reviews.
love my SR9, although i did have to install a ghost trigger bar and flitz the internals, the result is an amazing trigger pull. i'm not a gunsmith and the trigger bar cost 20 bucks. so you really do get an amazing product for 398 dollars
@elfmdl I don't have a pull meter, but it's lighter than my glock and smooter too. It's got less of a staple gun feel than the glock. Give it a dry fire at the store
You think you can make a new video for those of us that are new to this gun thing lol I dont know what the hell you mean when you talk about slide locks and press checks and double recoil springs lol I would like the basics video lol
Great video. I had the pleasure of using a ruger sr9 when on holiday in the states. Wish we could get these sr9 s down under in Australia but unfortunely we have a brain dead government down here.We envy you guys in the usa
does the compacts shorter barrel effect the accuracy alot? i am going to buying this gun and i would like to make it s barrel shinny with my dremmel but i dont know how to do that, so if you could either make a video of how to do that or post instructions would be awsome! thx.
@smog22100 The accuracy on both is to notch, I don't have any problems hitting targets at distance. If you want to do a barrel polish, check out thearmorychannel, Pete has a video of that very activity.
@smog22100 You need to check out three videos by Hickok 45 1) Accuracy 2)Glock 27 at 230 yards 3) His Ruger SR9c video
He does a great job at dispelling the ridiculous myths that a shorter barrel means a "less accurate" gun. Unfortunately for us we are the ones who are inaccurate not the guns. He makes the great point that their are no guns out there less accurate than we are.
I am a bigger guy (6'3 320lbs) with big hands. Do you think the SR9C would still be a good option for me or would the SR9 be better? Also, does the SR9 carry comfortably as a concealed carry gun to you?
@EmbarkCola There are a lot of factors to consider, but I think the compact is definitely more concealable due to the shorter grip (less sticks out and therefore won't print or grab clothing as much). However, I remember wearing very large, loose shirts when I was larger. Large loose clothing makes it easier to conceal larger guns. Some gun stores will let you try on holsters and they have those blue dummy training pistols, you might be able to test with that.
@martinitime1975 Thank you very much for your response, and it was rude of me not to say this in my initial comment, but terrific video! Thanks for sharing it and helping people like me make better decisions.
@andysmith502 When you pinch the front serrations and slowly push back the slide just enough to check for a round in the chamber, nut not enough to unseat or eject it. You'll hear the term a lot when talking about 1911's
If I'm not planning on CC would you suggest the SR9 over the SR9c? It will be my first handgun and I plan on using it for lots and lots of practice to become proficient. It would also be my go-to home defense weapon. ON that note, how does it handle hollow points? Can it shoot +P and +P+? sorry I have so many questions but I'm really trying to get the most versatile option... thanks!
@DanTheMan9867 Actually, I prefer the compact because it feels better to me. It is capable of firing hollow points, just make sure you test a couple of boxes of your preferred ammo to make sure it cycles properly. As far as +P ammo, just check rugers website or give them a call.
@martinitime1975 You're right haha I went to my local gun store today and held the SR9 and was impressed but then I held the SR9C and instantly knew I couldn't buy the full size... the compact seems like it was made for my hand! Also, I read several reviews today in which +P ammo was run through it without problems so I guess I answered my own question there
@Castleknight The compact I carry in a Kholster IWB (see my video on that subject), and the full size has a fobus paddle holster I won in a Youtub contest. Both are kydex based, passive retention holsters. No, I don't compete, but I'd like to take a shot at it.
@Hondaman1144 I'm sure some of the smaller ones will, but mine will not. I have an NC star weapon light, and the rail trench on the SR9c is too close to the trigger guard, so it won't secure.
@Ripsurfer08 Slightly more recoil on the compact, but that's to be expected. Both are very accurate...I actually prefer to shoot the compact, it feels better in my hand.
@GettinDemDollaz With sales tax and a 4% penalty for credit card payment, it was just under $500. An awesome deal. That price seems to be holding at several places that I check periodically.
The loaded chamber indicator on both guns appear to be up, indicating a loaded condition, and @ 2:39 you point the SR9C at yourself. Tsk, tsk... :-)
Considering an SR9 myself right now. Far as holsters, would many 1911-specific holsters fit the SR9, or is it a bit thicker/longer/shaped too weird? And do you consider the SR9's manual safety to be necessary for carry, or do you feel safe enough carrying (in a holster, of course) with it switched off due to the Glock style trigger safety?
@darkwriter77 Holster fit is something I don't screw around with anymore, after buying/trying a few I THOUGHT would fit, so if it doesn't say so or you haven't tried it, stay away. The manual safety is a training thing. I don't think you NEED to have it on, but by its mere existence you must train to disable it when drawn. So whether you carry with it engaged or not, I would suggest training yourself to sweep it down when you draw.
How can people who do videos on firearms, and apparently cherish the 2ed Amendment, support Ruger Firearms. Bill Ruger wrote the high capacity magazine section of the 1994 Crime Bill. IS ANYONE PAYING ATTENTION Don't trust me...look it up
@DMarksmanLima21 That's a valid point, but this is NOT your daddy's Ruger. Since Bill's death, the company has taken a turn for the better and has been putting out FULL capacity weapons like the SR9/40, and the SR-556.
are the serrated edges on the duo tone sharp enough that you can cut yourself on them easily? I'm thinking about whether to get the duo or the all black and cant make up my mind. I've heard ppl say they've gotten cut on it and just wondered if thats a concern or if they just weren't handling it properly
I like the looks of the compact more, I don't know if its the grip size or the all black finish (which I always lean towards) but the compact appeals to me more than the full size does.
i'll be receiving mine tomorrow. I cant't wait!
