I was probably in junior high when Gilda was on SNL, and my dad found RR so disgusting that not only would he not let me watch SNL, he tore down and hid a poster of her that one of my best friends had given me. That stuff NEVER works - she's still one of my all-time favorite SNL characters.
@coachwolf HAHAHAHA.....My Dad.....& My MOM found her to be disgusting. I had a small B&W TV in my room and i would fake going to bed and then watch it.....HAHAHAHAHA
I love how Gilda once stated that so many of these stories drew from real life experiences, like the restroom soap one and the "farting chair" bit. Hardly any other Weekend Update guest characters, especially recurring ones, hold a candle to Roseanne Roseannadanna!
Wow i have a whole new respect for her. This almost made me piss my pants. She went off the deep end at the end. Also takes a lot of commitment to build up like that and have it all come together in the end.
thank you so much for posting this!!! i love Gilda... i watched each and every episode while it aired live... thanks for bringing back the memories... it never gets old :D
I don't think I ever saw this one or I was so stoned I don't remember it. (I think I would have, I remember most of the rest) I'm laughing so hard I think I'm gonna pee my pants. She left us way too soon.
I watched this live (on tv) in 1980. I was beyond a huge fan of Gilda, and this was my fav character of all time on SNL to this date. Her priceless characterization of Anderson Cooper's mom was absolutely the best comedy writing I had ever seen. It's too bad Gilda is not with us anymore. Gene Wilder was the luckiest man on earth :)
@yogiOK You are right..the first five years were the best...and Gilda had such great talent.. I miss her so much. I can not believe it has been 22 years since she has passed.. R. I. P. Gilda!!
thank you so much for this. there is only one other roseanne , that i put up . i wsih there were more on youtube. def one of the funniest things have ever seen.
The 3 funniest people I know of: Gilda Radner doing Roseanne, Chris Biddle doing the Quiznos story, and Don Novello doing Fr. Guido Sarducci. I'm limp from laughing!
@cimbalok : I agree. Add to the list Mike Meyers (Dieter of "Sprockets," Coffee Talk w/ Linda Richman, Wayne's World) and Dana Carvey (Church Lady, Bush '41, McLaughlin Group).
OMG, I remember this skit!! One of my favorites!! Loved Gilda - miss her!

This must have been 1980 since they mentioned Mt St Helens. I was going to ask what year it was but that explained it right there. LOL

Check out the SNL episode from '78 with OJ Simpson as the guest host. The RR commentary about the dentist is one of her funniest!

Yes, Richard Feder was the brother- in- law of Alan Zweibel, the writer who co-wrote the RR sketches with Gilda.
