No, that is wrong. The sentence 'Ich bin ein Berliner' is totally correct. JFK said it in the right way - in meaning and more or less in pronunciation.
In order to guard against misunderstandings in german the word 'Berliner' can be understood as a donut. But in other regions and not in Berlin. Here the right word is 'Krapfen'.
The citizens of Berlin get JFKs point totally. In the next scene you can hear them laugh, because JFK says thank you to the translator for translating the sentence twice
And I would really suggest you to stop trying to teach someone something thats not quite right! I guess every german would understand what you said... and it might help some americans to pronounce it better... but its still not really perfect... so I dont see any point in this video.
And I am asking myself... why you're trying to teach some guys on the net how to pronounce your youtube nick? x_x

translate this: Die potenzielle chemische Energie, die ich in Form von Junk Food, jede Woche oral zu mir nehme, entspricht ungefähr der elektrischer Energie eines mittleren Atomkraftwerkes das seinerseits hunderttausende von Haushalten und Betrieben mit elektrischen Strom versorgen könnte und sogar noch weniger CO2 produzieren würde als meinereiner welcher ein ziemliches Problem mit überschüssigen Gasen hat. single german sentence but that is just rhetorik
omg you fat donut burger eating monster just stop making videos you are discusting your face is bigger than the whole youtube screen wtf go to a fitness gym you fat cow. !!!!!
your pronunciation actually is quite alright, but it would be a real improvement if you could, as so many have pointed out, make the LI in BER-LI-NER a looong vowel, apposed to your suggestion of spelling out the pronunciaton with "lynn", a better help would be the word "lean" as in "to lean on something", BEAR-LEAN-ER

Both can be said. "Ich bin Berliner" und "Ich bin ein Berliner" . The second version puts a little bit more stress on the fact that the person is from Berlin and not from somewhere else. Like if someone would ask an US-Citizen whether he an European, he would probably say " I am an American" and not just " I am American". This kind of Donuts are named in many different ways all over Germany - Pfannkuchen, Krapfen,Kreppel, Puffel, Berliner.... Kennedy learned the sentence also my a German.
I knew this story, but you explain it very well. As a fan of berlin & kennedy, I really appreciate your interests...are you really learning german? It's a hard language.
Durn...I was pretty sure I'd spelled that wrong. I've never studied German myself, but it's the language my grandmother used to swear in when I was little. Also, they have marvelous words for philosophical concepts that cannot be translated, like gestalt and zeitgeist and leibenraum...ok, that's pretty much the end of my German...maybe you'll make some instructional videos about the stuff you're learning?
Heh. That's ok. Spelling is overrated. ;) Yeah, I was thinking about trying to boost my vocabulary by learning one new German word per day, so I was thinking about sharing the new words each day with a video! Since you mentioned it...I think I'll try making some instructional stuff. Good idea. Thanks!
For some reason the video cuts off at the end...at least when I try to view it on youtube. Sorry. It is okay if you pronounce my name wrong. I don't mind at all. :)

True! Berliner has two meanings:
a. Citizen of the city of Berlin
b. German donut with jelly inside.
So Kennedy didn't make a mistake.
You Americans eat Hamburgers, and in germany we have the City of Hamburg. So it could possibly happen that you meet a German, who says
"I am a Hamburger" (Ich bin ein Hamburger)
