In all of the time I've played battlefield I have only seen 3 aggressive recon players. You, me, and some dude with a semi-automatic rifle. But he wasn't as good as me. Or even close to be as good as you.
My reaction when I get killed by a guy who is camping: "If you don't move place by the time this kill cam is finished I'm going to ram the gun you're holding straight up your ass". My reaction to getting killed by USAS 12 + Frag Rounds is pretty much the same ^_^

Flanking = smart playing. I'm a longtime Battlefield player. I started out on the PC with Battlefield 2 and its blatantly obvious to me that battlefield is an entirely different game now. Those trolls who say you can't play Battlefield aggressively are stuck back in Battlefield 2 days. It doesn't matter how you play the game as long as you're having fun and making it a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
In all honesty it depends on the map for me, take sharqi peninsula, I'm a long range sniper who sticks back getting 10-15 kills per game. Damavand peak or grand bazarre, I'm an aggressive sniper getting 20-30 kpg. It's all just the maps for me.
in my opinion my idea of a COD player (i play both COD and battlefield so i know what they are) is someone who wont stop trying to trickshot and wont stop trying to simply kill and enters a room with a sniper rifle expecting to quickscope everyone... oh and i also believe that COD players are the ones bitching about everything

The majority of players aren't veterans, so I personally think someone as talented as yourself shouldn't pay attention to popular opinion. Camping is pointless no matter what you're doing. Battlefield is all about movement. If you push past the objective, you win. If you give up ground, you don't get it back. "Camping" is irrelevant to that. Camping is how you stay in an area, not where the area is. In short, your ideas are spot on, and I'm glad that large numbers of players listen to you.
I love your skill and gracefullness on the battlefield, but I still feel like recon should be long range. Obviously, don't spawn and start shooting, but you should get to a good flanking position and get some sideways headshots while your team spawns on you.
snipers who get 1 kill a min suck but those guys who sitback half the map away spotting, killing and helping their team out the way a recon should is fine. i like to sitback and take my time but i always get a high score due to spotting and killing. i might even go for the objective (if im bored) pining them down with my pistol so i don't see the the problem that people r having with recons (recon=ok .k/d sniper=noob) i know u don't have a problem with them but other people do.btw recons press q

pwn, I completely agree with your defending/flanking stratagies. Sure people can stay back and protect the objectives, or people can flank into the unsuspecting attacker's spawn and take them out by suprise. Seeing as how attacker's have a limited number of people (75 ppl an objective), take the advantage and get behind them and take them out from the inside. :)
i personally think camping is ok, but its how u use it. Like u said, camping snipers dont do shit and all they do is get kills, even if they're doin conquest and rush not helping with the obj at all. camping can be a good and bad thing but if ur just moving around the obj and killing thats not camping, but if someones like in the corner of a room across from the obj thats just annoying camping. but yea love the vid, and keep it up :)

I've noticed that moving from the M98B to this gun, your shots will ALWAYS miss unless you are not moving at all, and you have waited for a fraction of a second after you have zoomed in the scope, it's pretty damn annoying, you'll definitely notice it when you square off with another sniper in a close range battle, your bullets will scatter all over the place

agree 100% with what you call aggressive defending, I mean, in my mind, it makes total sense to rush Attackers to delay their offensive, prevent them from getting close to the objectives and drain their tickets faster, although it's also necessary to keep some people behind, closer to objectives, in case some hostiles manage to slip through.
Aggressive defense tactics usually work well. WIth one or two friends on Skype, you keep guys on their rear and have them caught in between two sets of enemies. We've won a lot of games by holding down a location that they have to go through but that isn't near the objective. I suppose that this is more common on console due to smaller teams.
my strategy as a sniper is get behind the enemy and take out there snipers, then i take there spots hit the enemy from behind and cover my team while they rush and take time to dig in. I hate camping and with my strat it doesnt really... work. i move from spot to spot and if someone gets to close well... GLOCK ON YO FACE!!!!!

Thank you for the obvious and redundant analysis. As for the gameplay, not too fun to watch, just steamrolling a team that looks like its down a few guys. Your awareness is good, aim and target acquisition look poor (you implied you can do better, so why not then post a more quality vid). I see a bit of cod-style early reloading. Would be interested to see how effectively you can pilot aircraft in the game, because everyone's a good gunner. Just my 2 cents...

I agree with your point of view on the validity of different play styles. I think the most confusing one for me as far as campers is concerned is that you pay so much money for these games, just to sit in a corner. It seems to defy logic. I think that a plays style for sniping should be psychological as well as active. Even if I only get 3 kills on the advancing team, my suppressing fire can get them to haul ass off of our flank while the rest of my team comes in to help. And with my soflam I can designate their vehicles for javelins to take out.
I usually play recon, but I really consider myself more of an infiltrator, or at times a "designated marksman", my job is to get behind enemy lines and set a spawn beacon, and when I'm with my team, I pick off enemies. My setup is QBU-88 with ACOG, foregrip, laser sight/suppressor, G18 Suppressed, MAV, Squad Cover. This allows me to accurately pick off entire squads with ease at a medium range during a firefight and help us advance..
What do you guys think? Is that how a recon player should be?
@DJParkesie959II : Oh, and when I am going to be in a shorter range fights, I usually equip the PP-19 with Kobra RDS, Laser and Suppressor, and I change my speciallization to squad ammo.
@KillerRetardz : Yeah, I know what you mean, I was once in a game of Rush on Gulf of Oman with randoms; my entire squad had placed themselves on that crane and in the hollowed building next to it. It's the same almost every game, Kharg is terrible for it, as is Tehran. Strike at Karkand always has guys MAV lifting themselves, same with Sharqi & Tehran. MAV roadkilling is a massive problem too.

I play the exact same way, with a twist. I play as Recon with a silenced SG and put spawn points, in the enemy spawn to keep us behind enemy lines. Works like a charm my one squad can then change the whole game like that and pull a win out of our ass.
There is nothing wrong with an aggressive defense, as long as you dont push up too far to be able to disarm if needed. Camping in the enemy spawn in no way, shape, or form helps a team defend.

Also, the best thing against camping I have heard is by fishsandwichpatrol, a very good Shogun 2 commentator. He basically said that if both sides use the same strategy, for example camping, the game would not be a game. Camping is however different than playing defensively or cautiously.
I completely agree with Pwn on this point. It's what my playstyle is. Defending aggressively is one of the best things you can do. Because you do not have your own respawn tickets to worry about, you are allowed much more freedom in the options that you have. There are two parts of defense, to stop the Attackers from destroying objectives and to have their respawn tickets run out.
Camping is NOT bad if you do it correctly. Camping on offense is a big NO. Camping on defense has it's exceptions. It is completely fine camping near a m-com station. For example, taking a LMG on a bi-pod covering a m-com or a choke point is good. Or like holding a RPG at a door Torwards a M-com is alright with me. As long as you help to WIN.
operation metro on rush is the best map to use offense on defense. If the defending team pulls up to where the concrete blocks are and hold the line the game simply becomes a shooting gallery for the defending team and if you push up to the line created by the the bridge its even easier because no you now have a bit of a security net to fall back onto.
I prefer aggrenders but only if your good at it. It's generally easier to defend a objective when the defensive line is deeper in enemy territory with the 2 or 3 defenders sitting closer to the objective. That way if the line does break, those guys won't get a rush of enemies all at once. But it back fires too when those aggrenders aren't that good either. If they can't average 3 to 1 kills then they are just weakening the defenses and those are often when the defenders can't hold the objective.
I play recon a lot and I don't understand why would you stay all the way back at your spawn. If your pretending to be a real life scout sniper then your doing it wrong. Most of the time snipers are sent before the actual attacking force to scout the area, so stop sitting in the back. Sneak around the enemy, plant a spawn beacon near the objectives, arm the mcom or cap the flag and if someone has already done it THEN you can snipe the people trying to disarm or cap and don't just use snipers.
i simply love flanking attackers on rush! but on one game it all just failed, cos half of our team was flanking and other half was sniping at our spawn... but still, love agressive defense!
pwn, you and i have very similar play styles. Aggression and surprise are tools, speed and accuracy are tools, watching and ambushing are tools. It takes a wise person to alternate his tools depending on the situation. you wouldn't use a hammer to dig a hole. Versatility and adaptiveness are traits to be respected, not scorned

While I'm certainly not saying that aggressive play is somehow "codlike" or bad, I think there are bounds of reason. When you're in a team full of random scrubs and the enemy parks two fully manned tanks right outside your spawn, all mic'd up and calling stuff out the game loses all entertainment value.
It's the same with campers though. Every time I see a guy at the top of a staircase, with his lower body inside the wall, holding his USAS with frag rounds, I die a little inside. And rage.
Although campers can be annoying it doesn't really bother me that much. I thnk snipers should be able to sit back if they want without hate, the point of a sniper isn't to be all up in their face, which although that is an ok playstyle, it is not what snipers were made for. Sure they might not be the most helpful but if they want to sit in one corner for an entire game and be bored, let them it is no worse then having your team short one person.
@Skull11137 the problem is this goes against the Recon strategy of breaking past enemy lines, scouting the enemy behind enemy line, and serving as a force to maintain some sort of control till the main assaulting force reaches. AKA the point of RECON in the game the way its designed is to basically get in and set up moblie spawn point(including using yourself as a spawn point) by the objective, serving as a scout.also BEHIND enemy lines. this is why i usually use a PDW with recon. though sniper
I was more implying that if you are more than 100 yards away from someone you shoot, even if you have a sniper, people complain that you are camping. Even if you are moving slowely just not sprinting.

I camped one game. Noshar Canal, rush attacker. I sniped with a M98B on the carrier. I had a clear view to objective A and after the first phase, I was mvp 2 with 5 - 0 mainly because of headshot bonuses. After that, it got boring and I switched to engineering for the remaining game and still ended with mvp 2 with 2 arms and 18 - 4. Conclusion: I approve of most play-styles IFF they mix it up
I like Camping because it usually means anyone that gets near the m-comm and trys to arm or defuse it gets their head blown off. Plus it means you get to sit back and relax while helping your team spot enemies.
I'm saying it is a good idea to have 2-3people rushing them while atleast 4 people roam around the objective and the rest push and hold the line a bit further up, really it's only good to have 2snipers in your team..

The thing is, when you push up on defense the attackers must kill you twice before they get to the objective. Of course if nobody's staying back then its not smart. Also, if no defenders are pushing up then the offense will steadily gain ground.
Bush wookies were the main complaint of basically everyone in bc2 and they're just as useless in bf3 (except they arnt wookies anymore -.-) and playing aggressively is how to win.
Nothing wrong with your play style. I hate playing against aggressive defenders on rush which means they're doing a good job. Nothing wrong with camping snipers either as long as they do it right because there are a lot of things they can do. Run up and plant a beacon, tag some targets with the soflam, or spot the enemies with the mav, and get a clear line of site of the M-COMM, or flag on conquest, and pick off any enemies that get close to it.
Not all snipers are the same, I'm a defensive sniper meaning if I'm defending I'm pretty much camping the m-coms and taking out everyone that's trying to get it. Also I'm spotting everyone and everything so my teammates can know where all the bad guys are.
When I play as Recon, I'm helping my team like getting rid of other snipers hindering my teams respawn points so we have a better chance of winning

The majority of players aren't veterans, so I personally think someone as talented as yourself shouldn't pay attention to popular opinion. Camping is pointless no matter what you're doing. Battlefield is all about movement. If you push past the objective, you win. If you give up ground, you don't get it back. "Camping" is irrelevant to that. Camping is how you stay in an area, not where the area is. In short, your ideas are spot on, and I'm glad that large numbers of players listen to you.

I love your skill and gracefullness on the battlefield, but I still feel like recon should be long range. Obviously, don't spawn and start shooting, but you should get to a good flanking position and get some sideways headshots while your team spawns on you.

pwn, I completely agree with your defending/flanking stratagies. Sure people can stay back and protect the objectives, or people can flank into the unsuspecting attacker's spawn and take them out by suprise. Seeing as how attacker's have a limited number of people (75 ppl an objective), take the advantage and get behind them and take them out from the inside. :)

i personally think camping is ok, but its how u use it. Like u said, camping snipers dont do shit and all they do is get kills, even if they're doin conquest and rush not helping with the obj at all. camping can be a good and bad thing but if ur just moving around the obj and killing thats not camping, but if someones like in the corner of a room across from the obj thats just annoying camping. but yea love the vid, and keep it up :)

I've noticed that moving from the M98B to this gun, your shots will ALWAYS miss unless you are not moving at all, and you have waited for a fraction of a second after you have zoomed in the scope, it's pretty damn annoying, you'll definitely notice it when you square off with another sniper in a close range battle, your bullets will scatter all over the place

agree 100% with what you call aggressive defending, I mean, in my mind, it makes total sense to rush Attackers to delay their offensive, prevent them from getting close to the objectives and drain their tickets faster, although it's also necessary to keep some people behind, closer to objectives, in case some hostiles manage to slip through.

Aggressive defense tactics usually work well. WIth one or two friends on Skype, you keep guys on their rear and have them caught in between two sets of enemies. We've won a lot of games by holding down a location that they have to go through but that isn't near the objective. I suppose that this is more common on console due to smaller teams.

my strategy as a sniper is get behind the enemy and take out there snipers, then i take there spots hit the enemy from behind and cover my team while they rush and take time to dig in. Thank you for the obvious and redundant analysis. As for the gameplay, not too fun to watch, just steamrolling a team that looks like its down a few guys. Your awareness is good, aim and target acquisition look poor (you implied you can do better, so why not then post a more quality vid). I see a bit of cod-style early reloading. Would be interested to see how effectively you can pilot aircraft in the game, because everyone's a good gunner. Just my 2 cents...

I think the most confusing one for me as far as campers is concerned is that you pay so much money for these games, just to sit in a corner. It seems to defy logic. I think that a plays style for sniping should be psychological as well as active. Even if I only get 3 kills on the advancing team, my suppressing fire can get them to haul ass off of our flank while the rest of my team comes in to help. And with my soflam I can designate their vehicles for javelins to take out.

I usually play recon, but I really consider myself more of an infiltrator, or at times a "designated marksman", my job is to get behind enemy lines and set a spawn beacon, and when I'm with my team, I pick off enemies. My setup is QBU-88 with ACOG, foregrip, laser sight/suppressor, G18 Suppressed, MAV, Squad Cover. This allows me to accurately pick off entire squads with ease at a medium range during a firefight and help us advance..
What do you guys think? Is that how a recon player should be?

@KillerRetardz : Yeah, I know what you mean, I was once in a game of Rush on Gulf of Oman with randoms; my entire squad had placed themselves on that crane and in the hollowed building next to it. It's the same almost every game, Kharg is terrible for it, as is Tehran. Strike at Karkand always has guys MAV lifting themselves, same with Sharqi & Tehran. MAV roadkilling is a massive problem too.

I play the exact same way, with a twist. I play as Recon with a silenced SG and put spawn points, in the enemy spawn to keep us behind enemy lines. Works like a charm my one squad can then change the whole game like that and pull a win out of our ass.

There is nothing wrong with an aggressive defense, as long as you dont push up too far to be able to disarm if needed. Camping in the enemy spawn in no way, shape, or form helps a team defend.

Also, the best thing against camping I have heard is by fishsandwichpatrol, a very good Shogun 2 commentator. He basically said that if both sides use the same strategy, for example camping, the game would not be a game. Camping is however different than playing defensively or cautiously.

I completely agree with Pwn on this point. It's what my playstyle is. Defending aggressively is one of the best things you can do. Because you do not have your own respawn tickets to worry about, you are allowed much more freedom in the options that you have. There are two parts of defense, to stop the Attackers from destroying objectives and to have their respawn tickets run out.

Camping is NOT bad if you do it correctly. Camping on offense is a big NO. Camping on defense has it's exceptions. It is completely fine camping near a m-com station. For example, taking a LMG on a bi-pod covering a m-com or a choke point is good. Or like holding a RPG at a door Torwards a M-com is alright with me. As long as you help to WIN.

operation metro on rush is the best map to use offense on defense. If the defending team pulls up to where the concrete blocks are and hold the line the game simply becomes a shooting gallery for the defending team and if you push up to the line created by the the bridge its even easier because no you now have a bit of a security net to fall back onto.

I prefer aggrenders but only if your good at it. It's generally easier to defend a objective when the defensive line is deeper in enemy territory with the 2 or 3 defenders sitting closer to the objective. That way if the line does break, those guys won't get a rush of enemies all at once. But it back fires too when those aggrenders aren't that good either. If they can't average 3 to 1 kills then they are just weakening the defenses and those are often when the defenders can't hold the objective.

I play recon a lot and I don't understand why would you stay all the way back at your spawn. If your pretending to be a real life scout sniper then your doing it wrong. Most of the time snipers are sent before the actual attacking force to scout the area, so stop sitting in the back. Sneak around the enemy, plant a spawn beacon near the objectives, arm the mcom or cap the flag and if someone has already done it THEN you can snipe the people trying to disarm or cap and don't just use snipers.

While I'm certainly not saying that aggressive play is somehow "codlike" or bad, I think there are bounds of reason. When you're in a team full of random scrubs and the enemy parks two fully manned tanks right outside your spawn, all mic'd up and calling stuff out the game loses all entertainment value.
It's the same with campers though. Every time I see a guy at the top of a staircase, with his lower body inside the wall, holding his USAS with frag rounds, I die a little inside. And rage.

Although campers can be annoying it doesn't really bother me that much. I thnk snipers should be able to sit back if they want without hate, the point of a sniper isn't to be all up in their face, which although that is an ok playstyle, it is not what snipers were made for. Sure they might not be the most helpful but if they want to sit in one corner for an entire game and be bored, let them it is no worse then having your team short one person.

@Skull11137 the problem is this goes against the Recon strategy of breaking past enemy lines, scouting the enemy behind enemy line, and serving as a force to maintain some sort of control till the main assaulting force reaches. AKA the point of RECON in the game the way its designed is to basically get in and set up moblie spawn point(including using yourself as a spawn point) by the objective, serving as a scout.also BEHIND enemy lines. this is why i usually use a PDW with recon. though sniper

I camped one game. Noshar Canal, rush attacker. I sniped with a M98B on the carrier. I had a clear view to objective A and after the first phase, I was mvp 2 with 5 - 0 mainly because of headshot bonuses. After that, it got boring and I switched to engineering for the remaining game and still ended with mvp 2 with 2 arms and 18 - 4. Conclusion: I approve of most play-styles IFF they mix it up

The thing is, when you push up on defense the attackers must kill you twice before they get to the objective. Of course if nobody's staying back then its not smart. Also, if no defenders are pushing up then the offense will steadily gain ground.

Nothing wrong with your play style. I hate playing against aggressive defenders on rush which means they're doing a good job. Nothing wrong with camping snipers either as long as they do it right because there are a lot of things they can do. Run up and plant a beacon, tag some targets with the soflam, or spot the enemies with the mav, and get a clear line of site of the M-COMM, or flag on conquest, and pick off any enemies that get close to it.
