I'm from the town next to Gloucester, MA where this "pregnancy pact" took place. If you look up the facts, there was no pact. It was a term that the media grabbed a hold of and made a ridiculous story out of. Gloucester High School always has a high number of pregnant students and these numbers (17 girls) is not out of the ordinary for that city or school. Some of the girls don't even know each other personally. The media truly took this story and ran with it, leaving the facts behind.

I'm a teen mom, I got pregnant when I was 16 and I'm now 19. My boyfriend and the father of my child is my age and we've been together for 5 years now. Holland has the lowest rate of teen pregnancy in the whole of europe and the lowest rate of stds. They start teaching sex education at five and it is a continued study right the way through school. I think education such as this lifts the taboo on sex and also makes it less of an adult activity. At the end of the day they are obviously doing something right.
@shoegalsho2 i'm not sure where you got your information, but I just wanted to say; I live in Holland, and I never had sex education until I started high school. It was a first year (so aged 12) subject in biology, but it's not a serious study. I think the difference is that we actually have 'safe sex' commercials everywhere, tv, the newspapers, posters... so it does get talked about a lot. maybe that's the difference, but definitely not the education. :)

I'm a teen mom, I got pregnant when I was 16 and I'm now 19. My boyfriend and the father of my child is my age and we've been together for 5 years now. Lots of comments on her say things about teens getting pregnant as being either "whores or idiots or whatever else about how we want children to fill a "void", but actually I was on birth control, the IUD to be exact when I got pregnant and it was an unplanned pregnancy obviously since I was on birth control. Job. Sex IS overrated. When you're too young, you can be unprepared mentally, emotionally and also physically. It's sad when these situations end badly, but that is not my case. They plan the pregnancy and when it happens, they go " Now what?" They didn't plan ahead to college, finances, and time. Getting pregnant at this age isn't cool, they just look look like irresponsible, outcasts of society. I'm a freshman and recently 98% of the students at my school joined the schools anti-teen pregnancy group that some kids and I started. We are in a well off neighborhood but we went around to other schools and successfully prevented 4 pregnancy pacts within the first semester

While I believe it is best to wait for marriage to have sex and have children, the second best thing is to wait to have sex when you're finically, emotionally, and overall fit for the possible consequences. There is a choice BEFORE having sex, and I believe people tend to overlook that. I learned in Anthropology that Holland has the smallest rate of teen pregnancies bc they prevent by educating their children at a young age, which the US does not. The best thing is to NOT have sex; it can wait.

Some have been monogamous with a partner for many years before they have a baby outside marriage. None of those people are whores. I don't think an idiot can get pregnant. I can understand how these girls would want a baby, it's instinct, that's what we're basically made for. But the fact that they're stupid enough to go though with it is sad. These are for selfish reasons, and they aren't considering the fact that their mothers will most likely pay for it, the baby won't have many of the luxuries it could have if they had waited and had been financially ready. Holland has the lowest rate of teen pregnancy in the whole of europe and the lowest rate of stds. They start teaching sex education at five and it is a continued study right the way through school. I think education such as this lifts the taboo on sex and also makes it less of an adult activity. At the end of the day they are obviously doing something right.

It was a first year (so aged 12) subject in biology, but it's not a serious study. I think the difference is that we actually have 'safe sex' commercials everywhere, tv, the newspapers, posters... so it does get talked about a lot. maybe that's the difference, but definitely not the education. :)

Sex is natural, people need to be educated on it, rather than just told its a terrible thing to do if you're not married.
