  • thumbs up if you think the 90's was the best for gaming!

  • @mrpepre yes there were so many vg brands, now there are 3/4 big company, there isn t competition, the vg seem all the same

  • this makes me so happy.!!

  • The music reminds sort of reminds me of Crash Bandicoot for the PS1.

  • 2:07..... and I feel young again... goosebumps...

  • emulated!

  • Goddammit I wish I was an 80s or 90s child. Being a child today sucks ass.

  • VERY THanks! you reaopen my best memories :)

  • NOSTALGIC GOOSEBUMPS

  • Hah! Those guys woldn't know a good story even if they paid fifty bucks for it.

  • Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2, Curse Of Monkey Island, Escape From Monkey Island, Tales Of Monkey Island, Monkey Island SE, Monkey Island SE 2. I got them all :D

  • im playing monkey island again on the xbox.and i remember playing it on the amiga

  • I still got da orignal game :D fun to play!

  • This game will never get old^^

When I'm old I will see my grandchildren play itXD

    Monkey Island forever!

  • @Bloodmane1987 Special Edition i quess becaus emy dad used to play orginal and now i am playing SE :)

  • Hey, no fair! The three headed monkey only gets to dislike this once!

  • fucking awsome.

  • this sounds FANTASTIC

    on the mt32 <3

I can't say which is better:

    the main theme

    or "Storytime with Guybrush"!

  • I d'no which is better... the main theme, or the "Storytime with Guybrush" bit! :D

  • "They wouldn't know a good story if they paid 50 bucks for it!"

Why do I get the feeling that Guybrush is trying to tell us something here...

  • Guybrush Threepwood, mighty pirate!

  • There's tears in my eyes...

  • Ron Gilbert in history books

  • This is probably my favorite story line in the whole Monkey Island series. It has some of the best writing, the best characters, and honestly, Guybrush was sort of a bad ass in this.

  • Best version of the theme.

  • You just wrote it because you didn't had anything more to say but wanted to have final word, don't you? Because I don't see any arguments here, only whining about my needs (incorrectly interpreted by the way) and my comment length. Also, AFAIK 400 words isn't a "whole article".

  • 8 __ (

  • 3 people here wank off to Justin Bieber.

  • @DrMabuse2006 We don't care. Get your "their listen to Justin Bieber" faggotry out of here. No one really gives a flying fuck about people who listens to him. It's a free world. If they want let them. But don't bother us about those guys or about that stupid JB cunt.

  • @nor94

Then don't respond. Amazing how someone 'doesn't cares' stills feels compelled to answer anyway as if it was directed at him. Jeez.

  • @DrMabuse2006 Let me get this straight - "don't care" about JB and his fans. And "care a lot" about people CONSTANTLY SPAMMING ABOUT THIS SHIT. If not the guys like you, complaining about him I wouldn't even know who is he. And you just keep reminding me about that stupid moron. So here I am, calling to all of you. Don't mention JB. I know, you really want to get your comment to be highest rated, that's your wet dream and all, but do it in some more creative manner.

  • @nor94

I couldn't care less about comment rating. You on the other hand seem to have a need to comment on a random comment typing whole articles about it.

  • thumbs up if you think that you shoul pass MI 1 and 2 allmost once every year

  • monkey island 1,2 and 3 = EPIC 4EVER !

  • EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm grateful too lucas arts to revive the game ... but if u ask me, u cant beat the original =) ( am I too nostalgic ? ^^ )

  • This is just too beautiful ! brings me tears :'( nostalgic

  • I've noticed something... A lot of MI fans get upset when tiny things are left out of the special editions.

Nevertheless, the intro is still awesome.

  • @willscomix

Shouldn't you be angry too if they made a remake of a movie like The Godfather and leave out the horse head in bed scene? =)

That is the same thing in MI: They are perfect so everything that is in it is sacred.

  • It moves me. It realy does. amazing

  • where can i vote for six stars???

  • Comment removed

  • i just finished special edition i did it quite quickly since i played the original mi2 long time ago and the thing thats bugging me is that half of this theme is missing(from 2:10)

  • I missed those dancing monkeys in the special edition :(

  • I wonder what this is going to be like in the special edition.

  • @xBlackMidnightx Its going to be non-existent in the special edition apparently. And that really sucks.

  • @thepotatoman23 it is not

  • Check out my piano rendition of the Outlaws theme!

  • Monkey island has to be the best franchise ever

  • Monkey island has to be the best franchise ever

  • Unforgivable... It makes my cry every time...

  • im selling these fine leather jackets

  • Wish somebody could do a video of them playing that AWESOME BASSLINE!!!!

  • I heard a dude named Pianist203 here on youtube just did a nice piano cover of the latter part of this song - the campfire part ... go find it :) !

  • I find this film to be quite good.

  • Question: did the CD version of MI2 have Red Book audio?

  • @trustnoone81 There was no "true" CD version of Monkey Island 2. They just included the floppy version on single and compilation CDs, hence there is no CD audio but just the original internal speaker, AdLib and MT-32 sound.

It'll be interesting to see how the Special Edition handles the hot swap feature that allows you to go back to the original game. Maybe they'll add General Midi like the Steam release of Fate of Atlantis?

  • @PrimeBlue We'll given that the composer composed the music using an MT-32, the 'original' music in the special edition should really be this, then.

  • the mt-32 version is the best for this game, listen to the awesome FM organ, bells, and warm pads. Also in the game there are special sound fx just for the mt-32 like 'spit' and 'gloop' and some other stuff. also for the dude with the casio keyboard: how can u play mi2 with casio? casio doesn't have the roland sounds

  • I love playing Monkey Island plug-ing my Casio Keyboard in the MIDI Port!!!

  • awesome version. i love the game !

  • @angryredcom FM = frequency modulation, IE: the instrument sounds were generated artificially by the soundcard rather than using recorded samples ala General MIDI or MT-32. Is that what you meant, or did you grow up with the proper monophonic PC speaker soundtrack?

YouTube isn't letting me post a link to another video, but if you search for "Monkey Island 2 German" you'll find the intro with FM music. It's in German, but the music sounds the same in any language ;) Prepare for nostalgia!

  • "Those guys wouldn't know a good story even if they paid 50 bucks for it!"

Do I smell a subtle jab at the games industry?

  • Sounds surprisingly good, but I gotta say I prefer the FM version for the nostalgia trip.

Also the chord at the end of the credits sounds EPIC with FM, and with proper MIDI instruments it's kinda underwhelming.

  • FM? is that the proper mono tone version from the floppy disc era? do you know where I can find it, cause thats the one I want to listen to.

  • could anyone pass me the music sheets of the 2nd part of the vid, the one in Scabb?? plz :)

  • just classic. always loved that games

  • -I' m on a whole new adventure.

    -Growing a mustache?

    LOL!

  • When I use this game with SCUMMVM, than I get this sound. But whjen I play it with the DOSBox, then everything is made with piano (what still sounds really cool)

  • @KonsolN If everything is on piano for some reason its referring all the midi tracks as default midi instrument.

  • no it's more like someone just replayed the songs on the piano. Things like explosions have just no sound :/

  • By the way, I can hear from this video your MT-32 is in pretty bad shape, as it with mine. It's really a shame they lose capability of playing partials if you overuse them.

  • It is one of my favourite games!

    Thanks for new sound!

  • LA synthesis ftw!

  • :_)

  • since monkey island there was never a better adventure :(

  • ...never a better game...^^

  • I play most of my DOSgames emulating Roald sound canvas, I get the best results that way.

    But this sounds amazing too

  • This game kicks so much ass, If you wanna be nostalgic play it with the PC Speaker instead of the MIDI. I personally prefer it, but if you like MIDI try out some soundfonts, some make it sound sooo much better.

  • This was a great game. It kind of goes downhill after you get off of Scabb though. It was definitely the best in the series. The newer Monkey Islands are more like Saturday morning cartoon shows.

  • Do you mean cartoony? Because the series has always been cartoony. There is this one scene in MI 1 with guybrush closed up, which I remeber the artist regretted, since it wasn't cartoony enough.

  • I wouldn't use the adjective "cartoony" for the first and second. For example, whenever they showed closeups of the characters, they tried to draw them as realistic as possible, rather than as cartoons.

  • ich liebe dieses spiel

  • great memories...

    thanks for sharing.

  • This game was the best of all the monkey island games and the opening as well.

  • truly one of the best games i ever played.

  • loved it soo much esp on hard level fuck yeah!! x x x

  • First adventure game I ever played. Great memories.

  • Me too.

  • This is the best game ever ....... ever!

  • I am so hoping that this game will get the same remake treatment as Secret.

    That would be awesome!

  • apparently they are interested in doing so

  • You sure about that? Because that would be splendid :D

  • Same here , i am in love with Secret of monkey island special edition it is GREAT

  • I hope so. I'd be interested in what Largo sounded like.

  • one of the best games ever :) wish i could travel back in time to witness these timeless classics for the first time again!

  • I liked this one with the dancing monkee's.

  • Good old times when games were about content, not just graphics.

  • El rey de los clásicos

  • Immortal & greatest.

  • A timeless classic.

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Pretty please with sugar on top can you also post other scenes of this game with mt32 sound, like the dreaming sequence and end credits for instance? That would be really fantastic! :-)

  • You can get high quality MI2 Mp3's (as well as the other MI games) from a site called The International House of Mojo. (Google it) Look under "music" in the hosted site community section.

  • The MT-32 features the LA-Sound-Synthesis known from the Roland D-50. So it used wavetables(samples) long before usual soundcards adopted that technique. I like the moody organ sound a lot. It really adds some melancholic feel.

  • try dosbox

    MONKEY2 R

    R = Roland Midi enabled.

  • Thank you for posting this -- I've never heard the MT-32 version before. Clearly, this is how this music was meant to be enjoyed.

  • Ah, this is how MI music is supposed to be. ♥ Roland MT-32, I still love you!

  • How do you get MT32 MIDI to work in DosBox for this game? Nice video!

  • Fantastic! Everything from the funky dancing monkeys to the easy going "chilled out" remix of the original theme. Although generally speaking I did prefer the first game, even though the graphics and animations were a bit better in this version.

Its a shame there are no more of these point and click adventure games, I loved them. Especially the classic game "Beneath A Steel Sky" which I still have on CD somewhere, the humour was similar to Monkey Island in a lot of ways, but dark humour. :)

  • the harmonics in the second part are just lovely...

  • Try Roland midi in DOSBox. The music sounds different.

  • How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

  • Ahh man. The music nrings back fun memories playing this game. I used to have a Roland CM-32L and the game sounded just like this. So classic.

I remember playing it years later on a different computer without the Roland module - it just didn't sound the same with the crappy standard soundblaster synths. Thanks for posting!

  • This one is definetely the best in the series. I played it for the first time more than ten years after it was released, yet I was amazed at how well the music shifted when you visited different places in Woodtick.

  • iMUSE rules.

  • Definitely my personal favorite of the series although MI3 is a close second (love that last generation Lucas Arts graphics style). The abrupt ending somehow made me laugh extremely hard while making me very angry at the same time - gotta love the humor of the Monkey Island creators :)

  • Sigh...Got the MT-32 BIOS, Set it up in ScummVM, MT-32 Emulator loaded...But guess what? the audio doesn't work. just like with FM-Towns games...Darn.

And i just got a bit of a spook from that newfangled Audio preview button.

  • :-/ the theme sounds better on an amiga..

  • Oh, what sweet music ^-^ I love this game =)

  • The MT-32 sounds divine, isn't it? :D

  • Weird, in my version of Monkey Island 2, there is no this intro, just some Lame-O-Copy thing at begining, and after that I am in taht cave hanging on the rope, without any music at all,

I use scummvm, is there way to enable music?!

  • the intro comes after the hanging part.

  • I love this game :(

I miss the series so much

  • basically the catchiest videogame music ever. I still catch myself humming it like fifteen years after I first played the secret of monkey island.

  • my ears just came.

  • I love this game

it reminds me of great time from my childhood

    thanx for posting man

  • thanx for posting, i know that soundtrack with PC-Speaker. *gg* Long time ago and i loved that game. "use paper with spit on the wall" *lol*

sorry, dont know how it realy is written in english, i had the german version.

  • I live in Woodtick...with my flatmate Marty

  • I love this game. I only discovered it last year, but I have the first two. They are just the best! One thing that always freaked me out was the "Navigator's Head" in MI1.

  • Its nice to know people still discover Monkey island, I was tiny when I first played, now im an adult and im so fond of it.

  • It was this game that recently promped me to spend £40 on a MT32 box... ouch.

  • That music is as addicting as the game itself is :) absolutely great!! Also check out the Piano Medley!

  • I LOVE IT!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS ONE! God thank you so much. I missed this sound. I hate the other videos made with scummVM, it just doesn´t sound true. The best way for me to enjoy Monkey Island is through the System Speaker inside the PC Case *aaaaaah* ^__^ <3 <3 <3

  • So much memories... Oh god... Those were the days... ;_;

  • no one cares!

  • look who's talking. when this game was published you were still wearing diapers. so spare me with your 'expertise'. LOL@systemspeaker

  • Yeah and after it was published it disappeared. And no one except the 'so-called' pioneers was able to have the experience of playing it as one of their very first computer games.

sounds like you're still wearing one, the way you talk

  • "and after it was published it disappeared"

    in your sweetest "3-year-old-baby"-dreams!

  • idiot... Of course not! Can´t you understand irony? jesus...

  • If there a god or any kind of justice under the sky... you will already dead when I'll end this last word.

  • best intro EVER

  • It sounds not right... It is Sound Blaster!!! Not MT32!

  • I used to have a soundblaster, but it sounds also like that if you have a naked computer with no soundcard and just a speaker inside the case.

  • That is NOT SoundBlaster Sound. ;) I think it's MT-32 or at least an MT-32 emulator.

  • Read title and description, dude. It SAYS that it's mt-32 music.

  • It is. The music for this video was recorded straight from an MT-32 box.

  • @DrCheeto

I agree. I have an MT-32 here, and this sounds quite a bit off.

  • @rmcdev scummvm makes the mt-32 sound a little off

  • @SuperWario094 Well actually as an mt-32 gets old the poliphony decreases and believe me I had 2 mt-32 which were in the same state and about 3 years ago they were just fine

  • @rmcdev everything on youtube sounds a little off

  • Wow, this is way better than the sound I have, especially the first part!

  • I agree. F_cking great midi !!!

One of my favourite PC games tune also.

    Thanks.

  • I agree. F_cking great midi !!!

One of my favourite PC games tune also.

    Thanks.

  • Thats a fucking awesome midi

  • HOW BAD ASS THANKS!!!

  • I really LOVE! this game! and the song too! :D

  • Im hunting a MT32 down right now, trying to get one cheap :P

There is also an emulator in the works, for dosbox!

Works pretty good, but it's not the real thing yet.

  • I love this game. I think that this song is the best theme that evertime men have written.

  • MI2 Has one of the better scores for the MT32 (I will newer part with my MT32 :)
