this ship is perfect for patrolling phillippine waters, Because it has high endurance even during a typhoon with wind speeds up to 120mph and waves that is 20foot high,only US navy ship other than the Hamilton class that can take the same stress is the tycon class Destroyers and no other US ships can do the same even the mighty carriers...It can be out in sea patrolling for at least weeks or even a month,so be proud because this ship can out maneuver even Chinese warships in a mock battle.

Without Harpoon and ASW capability, what is the point of buying this boat?? PI just got conned by US big time. PI should have just buy fast attack craft from Germany, French or Russia. I just do not how this boat can do anything against PLAN?
$10 million can only buy you so much these days. and its not like a few fast attack craft can take on the Chinese Navy and air force in any way shape or form. If nothing else the old lady can show the flag, surveillance and trip wire to know what is up.
I think this ship is an interim solution until the Phillipines gets its act together and purchases something resembling a modern frigate. Any it has got to be a big step up from the WW2 class destroyer it had previously been dependant on. This ship will give the Phillipines the capability to maintain an all important presence in the Spratleys. Remember the Japanese have been using Japanese Coast Guard vessels to maintain a presence in the face of Chinese incursions

This is BS - we have no Harpoon or ASW capabilities on this ship. The weapons systems were removed before steaming for Manila. It only has that gun and navigational equipment. To train our Navy people for ASW, anti-ship and anti-aircraft naval warfare will take tons of resources which is not in out 2011 budget. This ship is only good for scaring off Chinese fishermen and local pirates and giving our corrupt politicians a nice air-conditioned ride to Palawan and other resorts. Be real, people!
2 more Hamilton Cutter are set for to be decommission this september 2011 in Hawaii. The Philippines may acquire these 2 cutters before the end of the year.
