  • also influence of german commercional trance can be feeled in Psytrance, but also elements of psyrock and deeper influence in industrial. EBM evolved from Electro-industrial fused with EDM. Electro-industrial fused indutrial with electro-FUNK. So and that is where goa trance and psytrance got that catchy basslines from. subgenres can be mentioned. Izrael´s Nitzhog, Full on( more commercial stuff). Dark Psy . Very popular and growing scene in Russia.

  • due to sound similiarity with one new, atmospheric style from germany. cause of Atmospheric synths and 4x4 beats. Trance. This Goa (trance) did not achive such attention, as german trance. Goa trance has changed in every part of world were it was brought. Europe brought minimaslitic dark sound to it. Izrael more melodical. etc. This became known as PsyTrance, de to differ it from old school goa. Relation between Goa and Psytrance is ,just like between jungle and DnB.

  • Did i forgot about EMB? No! Adventural travellers called goa freaks, brought electronic music to Goa,India. EBM became popular at goa parties. by Influence of Goa, EBM transformed slowly into brand new style, influenced by indian music religion and hippie tradition. It was called simply "Goa" rarely as "goa dance music". travellers brought this Goa sound to their homelands, where it started to evolve. In Europe it was given second word in name.

  • DnB still lives probably just as part of Tekno scene. More and more disapointed fans of DnB return to jungle or discover Breakcore. Style that has evolved directly from Breakbeat hardcore, with no conection to jungle/DnB. It is characterized by more experimental sound. Breaks are played way faster than in DnB. rages from 190bpm. Speedbass is fastest broken beatz genre played at something around 300 bpm.

  • from the other. Last newbie in these is called "skullstep". might be very broken, but beat may be engineered sounding also similiar to 4x4, due to inspiration from Hard subgenres of techno. From Schranz to Gabba. on the other side, Wobble bass jump up turned into so called clownstep and Nu jump up. together with liquid funk, styles that became sucsessfull in mainstream. Proces of degradation could not be stopped DnB exists only rythmically. Its great potentional as fusive genre becomes its end.

  • legacy of Darkcore -Jungle, with furious breaks, Noise ambient(similiar as in neurofunk) Dark ambient backrounds. Darkstep became very popular thank to therapy sessions i guess. From all of these subgenres, inspiration led producers known as Konflict mainly neuro funk producer to embrace more "techy sound" . maybe it was purpose and maybe not. Techno-DnB banged out and thanks to floor hit "messiah" is their work unforgetable. people may have problems to distinguish one subgenre of techstep

  • With Deep basslines and strong beats. Vision of bringin´ DnB to its rave roots, by using sound samples similiar to those in old school stuff. This was characterized by phrase "Techy-sound" ,but had not to do really much with techno, almost nothing. Techstep offered alternative to ravers. subgenres of techstep occured in short time, and did not make people to get bored of it. Down-tuned minimalistic bass of "Dark funk" let to the style called neurofunk.

  • This new "progressive Jungle" sound rolled forward. discovering new possible fusions between even faster breakbeats and other styles. This potentional, let every producer make his own vision. Goldie´s Timeless is considered global manifesto of new jungle. Using just deriative name for jungle. DNB. reprazent and roni size just fortified this sucsess of DnB These inteligent subgenres of DnB seemed going mainstream. Few producers had different opinion about direction of DnB.

  • Inovation consisted of simplier breaks compared to Ragga-jungle, and with higher focus on basslines and higher BPM. This became known as Jump Up. Refusing reaction from devout jungle fans appeared in form of Darkcore-Jungle. Faster BPM, Furious breaks with complicated structures, dark atmosphere. some producers understood new conditions and adapted. Focus on self-produced breaks and samples.

  • this sound was different form Breakbeat, even it was rythmically just faster version of it. This new style became known as Jungle. Through begginings (breakbeat played over 150 bpm). next to intelectual chilling sound of LTJ bukem, first signs of Darkcore Jungle it stoped at Jungle with Ragga bass and ragga MCs. Ragga-jungle freshned the scene. After big boom.and calming down, fans and producers realized that Jungle miss inovation.

  • Different influences and styles, led it to creation of own musical style typical for these teknivals. "Tekno"(different thing from techno) Specific genre ,but also an umbrella term to describe various genres played from sound systems at teknivals. Bring it back to underground as one of the main thoughts of Tekno scene. Media and public interest meant rise and fall for rave culture. Meanwhile, in UK, Fast breaks on the rise.

  • Story of Spiral tribe and Castlemorton,Criminal justice act. Just shown how strong and big this movement is. Spiral tribe went across Europe, and made free rave events. These events later embraced faster and harder styles of EDM,due to distant the event from mainstream dance music parties. These became known as teknivals. the way music was played and what music was played.

  • Some people consider Castlemorton Common Festival, one week long festival of EDM as last drop. system could not take it under controll. Spiral Tribe members(organizers) were arrested. Medialized trial was expensive, and long. System was almost unable to do anything about it. Criminal Justice act- legal measure, that gave right to system,to stop every rave event. arrest and judge organizers, DJs,helpers and even ravers(unvilling to follow police orders.) This made ravers schocked.

  • Schockin reports from events pictured "young people on drugs".With no sign of shame. They continued the event. pressure from oponents, grownth and was promoted to political problem on national level. what becomes political problem ,can become political agenda. Action was clear. Drug use-Guilty,"this is not a music"-guilty , moral decline-guilty, pollution of enviroment(just for count)-Guilty

  • experiments with breaks played at higher BPM, reaped sucsess. beat was faster seemed harder and wild. Unconcealed drug use, uncontrolable mass events. Media were showing ravers as unmoral junkies, jumping into some noise. Their tolerance-ignorance towards journalists gave material for a hundreds of articles about demoralized drugy youth. Negative notations: vast majority. regular people(parents whose kids visited raves probably?) saw rave as threat for their children.

  • Early nineties. Rave culminates in UK. Interest of media, fires up avalanche of raves and visitors. Mass events, most of them popular open-airs, attracted ravers and curious people. numbers of visitors, went often to tens of thousands. niederland and belgium presented their Gabba/hardcore. Gabba has become very popular among ravers who enjoyed raw 4x4 distorted beats and high tempo(170 BPM was enough for that era.) many producers became chart leaders. for all: just mention The prodigy.

  • year, 87-91,UK. Acid house and Techno carried the scepter at the raves. Hip hop ws now knoen fenomenon in the UK. mixing acid house n´ techno sounds into Amen breaks (faster than hip hop), was last step. Ultimate global definition of rave culture. Breakbeat (hardcore). It is only case in history, when the term "Rave" reffers to one single genre, instead of umbrella term for El. music genres connected to rave and ravers. BreakBeatHrdcr=Rave another lasting, confusing myth.

  • Electro-Industrial meets Rave. That is how we could call Electro-industrial focusin´ more on danceable sound. Beats lead the song. Vocal parts began to lose. Fusion between post-industrial and El.dance music was over. This new genre was refused by many industrial fans as not post-industrial subgenre. Some still consider it to be part of industrial music. Electronic body music(EBM) had cold, cumbersome feeling to it. EMB also embraced new philosofical way coming from sci-fi subgenre: Cyberpunk.

  • In UK it became "new western wind" of forming UK Rave scene. in Germany it meant revolution. Some says that "techno became techno in germany". who knows? it is true that it has tradition in germany and from there it was spread everywhere else. More and more people heard about this techno, but could not characterize it. often confused with house sound due to rythm. This was responsible for one mistake. Till these days uninteested people call "techno" every electronic dacne music, even broken beatz

  • in some countries, artists did not foget about industrial. influenced by Electronic dance music(what was logical proces) started kinda new school called as "post-industrial". Electro-Industrial is first to mention. this style was danceable due to rythm but still more sinister, dark ,gloomy. In US, Detroit, post-industrial have influenced creation of new style along with house ,synthpop, funk. and inspired by old sound of krafwerk. with futuristic backround, new 4x4 style has emerged. Techno.

  • house started to split into various subgenres. Subgenre of more experimental perforation in using squelch sounds and using reverb. inspiration from 60ies psychedelic music concept to get raw sounds with attribute "acid". In UK goth rock rised up. lot of grown punks became goths. The others fell for new sound from overseas. House fieber in front with acid house started something new. This era is sometimes reffered as "proto-rave".

  • Evolution could not be stoped. notice that global popularity of hip hop, which became comercionalised and took position of pop-music, is going down. notice that music now played by artists you knew as hip hop acts, has moved towards 4x4-house music. Fusion between house and hop, actually exists and is called hip house) Back to 80ies. Straight up sound of house music made it more popular, than electro, cause house was more flexible for melodic lines.

  • This progressive acces to funk, became topics of debates among artists. It has freshened the feeling of funk which was still there, but overall expression with kinda psy elements and famous voice effect vocoder, made lot of followers and lot of opponents to this new style recognized as "Elcetro(-funk). Funk and disco took another way around in Chicago, were by using hip hop composition technique(mix, turntables) new style called house appeared.

  • Funk beats and especially basslines were really "dancy". many artists tryed to make progressive alternate to mainstream funk.most notable is tuning bass down with more atmospheric and deeper sounds of all instruments. This became known as "dark funk" an its legacy had big role later. Rebirth of funk started with more experimental acces, not to composition, but sound. instruments replaced by synths and samplers.

  • hip hop can be understood as first genre of EDM(electronic dance music). Later in afro-american community became way how to express thei feelings and how describe life in ghettos. lyricially in tradition of blues and spiritual. MC became main and importantly performer than DJ.This style became very popular in 80ies. Before it. we had commercial dance scene with styles:Disco and Funk. Funk gave soil for new experiments.

  • loop known as "amen break" rythmical passage tha gave birth to all genres under umbrella term"broken beats". I´m sure you heard it and danced to it at least once. Second turntables were ussually jazz or soul records to get sample for the break. actually this progressive technique made hip hop sound repetative. MC appeared as living factor of the performance. originally asked people in rhymes to dance and not fight. This became phenomenom among afro-americans.

  • Industrial musicians gave inspiration to many people, who undrstood the potencial of sounds of non-musical characters. Kraftwerk were most notable band in pre-industrial era. industrial has followed the line from Russolo through Schaeffer, and has shown that options of eletronically modified and synthetizied sounds are far beyond our thinkin´. Hip hop as eletronically originated genre, by using Mix-pult, two turntables-one with winstons´s "amen brother" for most known drum loop.

  • Industrial originated in GB were it was more intelectual and sotisficated alternative to punk movement, that was dying away. Euophoria got cold. Revolution didn´t start. new more sotisficated style of post-punk(later led to Goth rock-bat cave), and industrial inspired eachother. sound of industrial became more acceptable. It was only unconventional composition that hold it with its roots and far far away form TG sound.

  • This definition wasn´t proporiate. with every other follower, the style was followed not by sound itself, but by artistically- filosofical characters of Industrial.Which meant every other artists had different look on idnustrial composition, even very distanced from TG sound. Noise and other pre-industrial elements were still included. sound of this style became more and more listenable, due to adopting more convencional compostition in rythm and more clearer strucutres.

  • unifrom like clothes, combat boots etc. Militant imaginery and harsh violent sound made uninterested people think, that they are abusive fanatics. This tough style became typical for new slowly formin´ subculture about this style.Style was characterized unclearly and realesed on TG´ label: "Industrial records-Industrial music for Industrial people".style was given name from the label, but what were typical character for Indutrial? TG noted "Industrial is ,what we make,or what sounds like us"

  • i forgot to mention ,that we are already in mid-seventies. few performers of one art collective influenced by fluxus movement, deeply inspired by concept of atonal eletronic music, made their own group, never left visual side of their art but know focused on this "non-musical music".This collective became known as Throbbing Gristle. their symbolic was agressive, militant, violent and sinister(affilation to this new movement was ussually expressed by wearing militant clothes....

  • some of them interested in works of russolo, schaffer, cage and other alternative composers. Invention of electricity based organs and with first effects, and sample tapes. El.acoustic guitar etc. new sound equipments were discoverd and improved daily. Those who understood these equipments and knew how it works, made their own idea of "sound machines"( later known as analogue samplers) brought work with sound far beyond.

  • experimental/electronic/ambient music souned more weird and extreme than in those days.It followedand still followsits own composition structures with believe that every sound can be listened musicaly. For Exmpl: at noise music you have harsh disturbing noises. really annoying to Gaga fans. It is impossible to tell the tempo of noise songs and recognize the structure of song. Movement fluxus in sisxties has brought new looks on art perfromance.

  • i always had interest in extremes of musical art. I could say i heard all music that modern world know. But i still believe, i heard just like 30 percents. New look on sounds from begining of 20th century gave us almost unlimited options "In distanced future we will use noises nad machines to create music" Luigi Russolo,1917. Most notable follower of his idea was Pierre Schaeffer, with his Musique concrete. It is bit paradox that early experimental/electronic/ambient

  • I understand that music give people not only emotions, but even more(mystical experience-psytracne for example). It can make you angry or sad but you still can like it. Scale of my musical taste could have boarders from Classical and folklore(not folk) music through jazz, rock, metal, rap, Electronic music, till to "Atonal" Noise music(one of the genres that formed industrial) and Extratone, which are extreme and considered unlisteable.
