  • This tune is called "Loveless Blues". I can not figure out who the composer is from the web, there are too many tunes with this title, and the sheet music is probably not public domain.

Anyway, this certainly sounds like James Blythe playing on this roll, so I have added it to my Jimmy Blythe playlist here on Youtube. Thanks!!!

  • There are videos on Youtube of another great Capitol blues roll. Search "Seeburg L piano" and it's the videos posted by youtube user Yaledmot. This roll also features selections played by Blythe and Johnson. Thanks for posting this video by the way!

  • This is a North Tonawanda model L coin operated piano with violin pipes. It is a later model L which plays a style "A" coin piano roll. The particular "A" roll loaded on this machine most of the time was made by the Capitol company in Chicago and features the fine hand-playing of such South-Side Chicago blues geniuses as Jimmy Blythe and Clarence Johnson. A truly great roll and this piano shows it off really well.
