hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... maybe the new beetle is safe (b/c of the autobahn-- but the reliablity is sub-par) just compare consumer results. But, yes the VW New Beetle is a 5 star crash test car.

Mine broke down all the time. It broke down at least once a month. Most people I talk to who have owned one recently say the same thing. They have really bad electrical problems. They are horrible, horrible cars. Please, nobody should buy a VW ever.

Preventive maint. proper driving, i have a 02 ive raced and beat the hell out of, and she runs great.

Funny how yours broke down every 2 miles, I ask myself how many miles did u drive it? Mine has over 300,000 miles on it and it runs great. Compared to my friends Toyota echo (same age/km) I have had less problems and better reliablilty. This is again reinforced by another friend who has a Dodge neon. Again great car with great reliabilty.

my teacher complains about her beetle and how it breaks down all the time. bos78 is right because it has electrical problems. she said she had to fix her headlights 2 times because if an electrical problem. don't buy a beetle. buy other vw's there are good ones!

Well look at the little van the New Beetle hit, that little thing wouldn't even be street legal in the United States. I doubt the same thing would've happened if the Beetle had rear-ended a full-sized car.

Spinter, The beetle tried to avoid hitting a pedestrian but instead rear-ended that little van. It is of interest because the beetle's driver was not as injured as the van's driver.
