  • once again Jareth, love your work. what a nice little beast that is. Got to love the Moogs, Happy New Year matey, hope this year brings you a big fat Moog Modular to work on :-)

  • @MrRidgebackman Thank you very much!!! Would be awesome to get my hands on a modular moog. Happy new you to you as well, hope it is a great year for you!

    Take care,

    Jareth

  • I acquired one of these last week, I've just uploaded some vids of recordings with it too, but apart from also needing new bushings it was drifting wildly out of tune a couple of days ago, I've retuned it since, but do you think this might be an issue with the keyboard, oxidation on the contacts perhaps? I also read about the CP251 being a great companion, do you think it might be a worthy purchase for the Micromoog alone? Thanks.

  • @DreamsOfWires congratulations on getting one of these, I will get over and check your videos out! There is a chance you may just need to clean the key buss bar, when it gets dirty, it can cause notes to sound out of tune. If it does keep drifting, you may have some issues in the circuitry somewhere.

YES, the CP-251 adds so much more character to the micromoog until it is worth getting.

Take care and let me know how your micro holds up.

  • I know a lot of single-oscillator synths that I love the sound of (particularly JUNO-60 and Jupiter-4). Although granted, Roland cheated a little, the JUNO-60 *technically* has three oscillators, and the JP-4 can be configured to use the four oscillators in mono.

It's nice that you're restoring these.

  • @raymangold22 Oh yes, those are all great synths, I also have to add the AX-73 to that list as well.

    Thanks and take care,

    Jareth

  • Man you get some MENTAL Sounds out of that little monster! Is the Filter Parameters a bit like having a Filter "DEPTH" Function? You know.. ADSRD (Like your SH-201) although I think this has "Hold" aswel! So that would make it ADHSRD!!!!! Not bad for a single VCO huh?!! :D

By the way, when you first heard the SH201, Were you not really disapointed with its hollow/plastic sound? I was! In fact, I have to lift the low end, & spend a LOT of time adding character to the waveforms after recording.

  • @therealKINDLE Thank you! This little synth only has AR rather than the whole ADSR layout, but I guess you could say it has something like ARH due to the bypass switch. The Filter switch is similar to a depth control.

Well, when I got my SH-201, I did not have a vintage analog synth to compare it with so it sounded great until I set it beside my Little Phatty, it was like a toy after that, haha. I usually just use my SH-201 for background chords and sounds, it is great for that.

  • You have done a great job of restoring that Moog man. Making some sweet sounds! ;)

  • @Posthuman2003 Thank you very much!

    Take care,

    Jareth

  • Great to see another old synth brought lovingly back to life, well done, Jareth!

Happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year too!

  • @GNeuman Thank you!

The same goes to you, may this new year be a great one for you!

    Take care,

    Jareth

  • I like it !!!

  • @JampyKeys Thanks!

  • Hey Jareth, Great work, as usual!

I also have a Micromoog I'm working on - has the loose switches, too. Any tips on the fix?

I was going to take some very long 2-56 bolts and use them in place of the rivets. A loc washer + some Loctite should make it stable.

    Happy Holidays!!!

  • @rolandsh1000 Thank you! The bolts sound like a great plan, I used some liquid welder on this one and then let the board set over night, it holds up great.

    Happy new year!

  • That thing has a fair bit of beef for a single oscillator.

  • @Desmaad Oh yeah, it is not joking around for one oscillator.

  • Thanks, it was very entertaining and informative.

You sure can get some great sounds out of these synths!

    Happy Holidays!

  • @dburns Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video!

    Happy New Year!

  • excellent!

  • @swankrecords Thanks!

    Take care,

    Jareth
