@Panteraforever67 The post 911 GI bill is good for a lifetime. The old school GI bill is 10 years after the date of discharge but it is not worth up to 100k 56k is the limit. It equals to 100k in conjunction with the blue ribbon program. I work at a homeless shelter and veterans make up 35% of our clients. I am a recent college grad with a Masters degree used up every penny of my GI BILL and I still believe my time in the military was not worth it.
If you read your damn contracts you'll see that there is a CLEAR-CUT explanation about how you are LEGALLY bound for up to 8 years on your first enlistment, regardless of your 2, 3, or 4 year contracts. As far as dying is concerned, we're at war!

Reservist Dougherty is a fucking tard too. She signed a 6x2 reserve contract...6 years active reserve and 2 IRR, which means she serves 6 years as a weekend soldier, and then 2 years sitting on her ass unless she gets called back. I enlisted when I was 17, the contracts arent that complicated lady, your just fucking dumb as shit.

Ill admit that, thats why i didnt join the Army. My recruiter was cool as hell and we are still friends. There are only 2 types of contracts, one is a 4x4 for active duty, and a 6x2 for reservests. That means after you go home when ur 4 year enlistment is up, if the military needs you they will call you back.

Which means you need to be in shape for the next 4 years but ur at home and you might get a call once a year to make sure ur alive. If you really want out of it that bad, then cover ur lower arms and legs in tattoos. They'll have no choice but to DQ you right on the spot at the MEPS, you prly wont even make it that far.

I watched the video and still plan to enlist with a university degree. In terms of being applicable in the civilian world, choose an MOS that suits your career goal and like the person said below, do your research. Take what your recruiter says with a grain of salt and research everything yourself.

These people joined for college or for opportunities but they failed themselves. You don't join the military for college unless you plan on going to war for college. stop loss only works if your being deployed and your contract is ending. so if your 30 days from being out they will stop loss you until your unit returns from overseas. It wont extend your contract years.

The Army is very hard-knocks. You feel like a prisoner. I have deployed downrange and I'm a good soldier. Been late sometimes or smarted off to take up for myself but no Article 15's for me. I was so depressed too. Not because of the war but drama in the unit and how leaders treat you. That is why the suicide rate is so high. You work long hours and have no family time. I am proud to be from a family of veterans. Almost all of the men in my family have served for some length of time and none of them feel that it was a bad decision. There are some people that are cut out for the military, and there are some who are not....obviously these men and women should never have signed up. Do your research!!! @Panteraforever67 The post 911 GI bill is good for a lifetime. The old school GI bill is 10 years after the date of discharge but it is not worth up to 100k 56k is the limit. It equals to 100k in conjunction with the blue ribbon program. I work at a homeless shelter and veterans make up 35% of our clients. I am a recent college grad with a Masters degree used up every penny of my GI BILL and I still believe my time in the military was not worth it.

Reservist Dougherty is a fucking tard too. She signed a 6x2 reserve contract...6 years active reserve and 2 IRR, which means she serves 6 years as a weekend soldier, and then 2 years sitting on her ass unless she gets called back. I enlisted when I was 17, the contracts arent that complicated lady, your just fucking dumb as shit.

@kingsalamander123 Yes, the people on here are just complaining about things that are in the contract. Maybe it was their recruiter, Army recruiters are lying dicks. Ill admit that, thats why i didnt join the Army. My recruiter was cool as hell and we are still friends. There are only 2 types of contracts, one is a 4x4 for active duty, and a 6x2 for reservests. That means after you go home when ur 4 year enlistment is up, if the military needs you they will call you back.

@kingsalamander123 thats the second part of ur 4x4, every contract is 8 years. Its just the last half is IRR, inactive ready reserves. Which means you need to be in shape for the next 4 years but ur at home and you might get a call once a year to make sure ur alive. If you really want out of it that bad, then cover ur lower arms and legs in tattoos. They'll have no choice but to DQ you right on the spot at the MEPS, you prly wont even make it that far.

I watched the video and still plan to enlist with a university degree. In terms of being applicable in the civilian world, choose an MOS that suits your career goal and like the person said below, do your research. Take what your recruiter says with a grain of salt and research everything yourself.

If your goal is college, then just go to college... You know when you're getting out so you research what you will do before that happens. It's called initiative. Since the wars have been going on for so long chances are everyone knows someone who has served in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. If you want to know what military life is like than talk to a veteran before you enlist. Most of my friends loved being deployed but it depends on who you are.

stop loss only works if your being deployed and your contract is ending. so if your 30 days from being out they will stop loss you until your unit returns from overseas. It wont extend your contract years.

The Army is very hard-knocks. You feel like a prisoner. I have deployed downrange and I'm a good soldier. Been late sometimes or smarted off to take up for myself but no Article 15's for me. I was so depressed too. Not because of the war but drama in the unit and how leaders treat you. That is why the suicide rate is so high. You work long hours and have no family time. I feel sorry for people that are married with children. It's really difficult. I have 2 1/2 more years to go and I'm done!

@bocajs I hate when people get this idea that they won't deploy once they join. It's the risk that you take. Look at the news and everything around you that's going on. I knew I probably would when I joined and I wasn't scared. I survived 15 monts in Iraq by the grace of God.

@misstijera i pretty much dont know how ive lived through 22 months in iraq and afghan i know theres other combat arms soldiers with more time then me but seriously some times im just like... fuck my life for renlisting ( YES I KNOW ITS MY FAULT) but seriously even after having training accidents like having a scopas ( IED SIMULATOR) go off in my face because a stupid pvt i feel like ALOT of the army is based on luck like promotions and combat lol

This video is just demonstrating pure scare tactics. It might be true that the advertising that comes directly from the armed forces may make your time in the service seem like a walk in the park, but this is just ridiculous. They're just trying to make it look like all the kids are dying in the military. The kids in this video joined for ALL THE WRONG REASONS! They just wanted the money and didn't want to fight for their nation... which is the whole point of the armed forces.

@CradleInTheCrater People do make it back alive but people can join for whatever reasons they want it's just that if you hate it, you just have to deal with it. You do get lied to. Not just with recruiters but your chain of command too. How can you trust these people in a war zone if all your hearing is lies. Integrity is one of the Army values but I see that abused so much! It's ridiculous. I joined for travel & college. I'm not wrong but don't mean I am suppose to like the Army.

The point of the video is that a bunch of damn momma's boys joined up, got out cause they couldn't take it and complained that they enlisted because the recruiters lied. They didn't lie. Just because the job you do in the sevice is not worth anything outside, does not mean that you can't go to college while you are in and get a better job after your four years. These idiots act as if they expected all the benifits to come easy with little to no work! NOPE.

I don't respect anyone who joins for a tuition check. That's not what our military represents. Each branch has their own job to do, whether it's fighting opposing forces in a foreign country, or aiding in the clean up of an oil spill. To the parents who say that their child lost their life out of being naive... EVERY branch addresses the possibility of death. How dare you soil their memory by insulting their sacrifice...?

I am proud to be from a family of veterans. Almost all of the men in my family have served for some length of time and none of them feel that it was a bad decision. There are some people that are cut out for the military, and there are some who are not....obviously these men and women should never have signed up. Do your research!!! Talk to enlisted men and women who aren't recruiters and get the complete story. Thanks to all of those who serve.
