  • i use the mod were you only push the button to jump but you just slide to run

  • cool game for ipod....anyway i rated your vid 5*

  • They need to fix this game for the 4-5 gen nano. It's impossible to press the center button while holding the menu button, which leads to the inability to move backwards and jump at the same time. It's EXTREMELY annoying and makes the game a thousand times harder than it should be.

  • any way you can get this for free?

  • it costs 5€ :/

  • amazing how this works better than the one for the iphone

  • does it work on ipod nano 1st gen? please answer me?

  • This game is compatible with iPod nano (3rd and 4th generation), iPod classic and iPod (5th generation) only. It cannot be played on your computer, nor is it compatible with other iPod models or iPhone / iPod Touch.

  • will this work on a 2nd gen itouch

  • just jailbreak ur touch (because nowu can =D) and get an emulator for it

  • will this game work on a 4th gen nano?

  • I can't wait till my birthday! it's 5 days away and I just got my new iPod nano 4G (chromatic, not 4 gigs) yesterday. so once again, i can't wait till i get my 25 dollars for iTunes! sonic is the best classic out there!

  • Is this game worth buying? How reliable are the controls?

  • hell yea bro the controls are super easy and it is sooooo fun to play

  • imagine if sonic 2 was on the ipod :D

    or sonic 3 even x]

  • How could you spin dash?

  • hold the down button, then repetedly hit the centre button :')

  • holding down button = exit

    =(

  • erm.....dont press? just touch (:

like in the other ipod games.

  • will this work for ipod nano 4th gen ?

  • YES! The iTunes store says it will work on 3rd and 4th generation iPod nanos along with iPod Classic and iPod 5th generation (Video).

  • Thx X3

  • i cannot play this game also on my ipod 5.5G,it says "this version is no longer available",help?

  • Much better than the GBA port.

  • Thanks for posting this

I'm thinking about buying it, its only 5 bucks. Plus the only games I have are I-quiz and the lame vortex thing

  • This video inspired me to buy it too - the first and last time I'll use iTunes.

The game is great: a direct and complete port of the original. Flawless. Controls are iffy, but hey, it's an iPod.

  • i heard that the controls r very hard r they?

  • it depends on the iPod on iPod nano its very compicatted!

  • ok thanks i have the nano so idk if i should get it

  • now this is great. i like it. it has sounds. its much better with sounds. thanks.

  • i have the game on my ipod too but when i try to play the game, it says "this version of the game is no longer supported." i tried restoring the ipod nothing works. Someone plz help me :(

  • this dosent work with 2nd gen? :(

  • yeah! I accidently bought it to

    Im depressed now :(

  • Oh dang! I used to have that game, just the music brought back so many memories!

  • i pwn this game sooooo hard everyday in math class xDDDDDD exept randomly i have to start over again when i get really far ._.

  • I am looking into a new ipod game, but i dont want to wast the money on one that sucks. WIch would b the best one to buy.

  • sonic man,

  • probably phase

  • if you ask me it seemed as though you were struggling with the controls heaps.

  • do they have it for iphone?

  • No, this game is only made for the 3rd Gen iPod Nano (which plays video) the 5th Gen Video iPod and the iPod Classic.

  • @octcalderon Actually, now they do have it for iphone.

  • @octcalderon ya they do have sonic for the iphone search it on itunes

  • @octcalderon yes but as an app

  • All these good ports, and GBA got a crappy one. Shame, Sega, shame.

  • It all goes back to the old ad campaign, Sega does what Nintendon't.

  • Those controls look terrible.

Granted, the way the iPod's controls are designed is not something that makes most videogames that require constant directional input as well as a button easy, but using a button on the center of the "dpad" as well having to choose between touching or clicking a directional button to perform different things, its just a mess.

  • (continued)

I noticed in your other video you had trouble switching directions or had a delayed reaction from stopping from going in a certain direction (you kept pushing against walls and overshooting targets).

  • You guys, don't give him thumbs down. I bought the game and it's fun and all, but the controls really are terrible. The iPod wasn't designed to be a video game system, and so it doesn't have great controls. I don't regret buying the game though because it's Sonic and it's fun.

  • True, I have the game and while the controls aren't great its sonic and i can play it on the bus, So its fantastic in that respect.

ipod is never going to be great for games but no one is ever going to use an ipod solely for games so it makes this worth the money.

  • The way you're using it is probably the worst way you can - try it this way: Hold your thumb a the middle - move it to either side to run - press down wherever your thumb is to jump. The only time you need to move to the top or bottom is to pause, spin, and look around

  • where did you get sonic game ipod for free??

  • The game is not free, it's available to buy on the iTunes Store for $4.99.

  • oh I see,

    Thanks

  • lol

  • The gameplay looks very frustrating. In addition to the difficulty in controlling sonic with a circular pad, you have the added difficulty of jumping with the confirm button. There have to be other sega games more suited for gameplay.

First being one of the oldest sega games available, there's a lot of lag in this port too.

These issues aside, I suppose die hard fans of the classic game will gobble this up. The rest of us will stick to emulators ;).

  • These controls look awful. Pretty silly idea bringing a game like this to a device whose only buttons were designed for navigating menus.

  • cool The controls seem pretty interesting. I might get this.

  • nice song! it's the only memorable aspect of the game that i can remember when i played it, if only for a few minutes, years ago.
