Aside from the race aspect of this episode, what struck me the most was Nana's portrayal of K.C Hunter. I couldn't help but think that this was a nod to the real life Sci-Fi writer of the Original Series D.C Fontana, and probably dealt with some of the sexism that she faced as a young writer. "God forbid the public ever finds out that DC Fontana is a woman!"
This episode really captures the spirit of Star Trek. It really echoes what Q told Picard in All Good Things, "For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you had never considered. That is the exploration that awaits you. Not mapping stars and studying nebulae, but charting the unknown possibilities of existence."
@KingOfMadCows What's i do find realy interesting about DS9, it was less exploration of a Space and more exploration of a Mankind itself, they have never been afraid to ask the right question and to give a realistic answer wich still left a room for hope.
one hell of an episode, in my opinion one of the most direct to the point star trek episodes ever. might have had something to do with american history x, released later that year, but i doubt directly. and i think it was as much about the american experience as it was about the bigotry. but i must say that when any star trek has been presented with serious material, it has always shined.
I agree with Penny. This should have been an Emmy Award winner. And not only could it have been a 2 parter, you could have made an entire series off this episode. And the book was fabulous as well. My favorite Trek ep of all time.
that was one of my favorite episodes of any star trek series. trek is so underrated in terms of recognition for the beautifully crafted and painstakingly presented stories they tell. every series deserved awards for the writing at some point imo
Beautiful. This episode will always hold a special place in my heart along with the actors and writers who made it possible.

Brooks' "It's REAL" speech is one of my favorites in all of television, let alone Star Trek.

I liked this episode, but Garak should have been in it.

I normally don't like such overtly manipulative, didactic episodes. However, this one was good.
