  • why didn't they just put the label on the other side of the cartridge so you could see it?

  • Taco Man made fun of the creators name Rob Fulop? He did sewer shark and night trap also

  • I know how Mark felt about this. I just bought the Pac-Man Collection for the Atari 7800 and it brought back memories of the late 80s.

  • what a bunch of shit

  • @TWOhits6 go play ur wii

  • @TWOhits6 Closed minded bastard. Go back to your stupid Call of Duty game, you piece of mongrel shit.

  • AONDE VCS ARRANJA TODOS ESSES JOGOS EM ????????

  • I'm surprised he didn't sniff the package...lol...seriously. There is nothing like new Atari game smell. Sniff the cartridge, sniff the book...sniff, sniff, sniff!

  • if they can make actionauts for the 2600, what about swordquest: air world?

evryone with a 2600 wants it!!!

  • damn!! theyre still releasing games for the atari 2600? wow that just goes to show how much of an effect atari had not just the gaming world, but the world in itself. and thats coming from me, a huge nintendo fan!!

  • He just opened it, he didn't throw it into the dust bin or anything like that.

He still takes care of them.

  • WHY WOULD YOU OPEN IT?! O_O

  • @winnerboi102 Because there's no point in having it if you don't play it. It would have been what Atari would have wanted

  • @winnerboi102 I think Rob Fulop would prefer his work to be enjoyed, not take up space on a shelf.

  • why didn't you ever finish windsquid?!

  • i cant find this game anywere!!! its not on ebay, amazon, or anywere!

  • @IMZEECATMAN Hey, check Rob Fulop's website, it should be one of the top results if you google "actionauts", but be warned, with shipping, the game costs about 80 bucks, but I would think that its worth it :D

  • Video Game version of Big Trac

  • You should check out Atari age!

  • Best system ever

  • i can't believe my mom threw out our 2600.YOU ARE GROUNDED MOM!

  • i like this intro way more than the new one.

i mean whats that zombie mouse supposed to tell me?

  • Opening a new atari 2600 game and smelling the new atari freshness of the cartridge must feel great.

  • that sucks that there is only 250 of them. the game looks like fun

  • when I get a new game, I smell the inside. It always smells like new game

  • @TFiPW Except when you open PlayStation Move Ape Escape for the PS3. It allways smells like shit...

  • cool

  • Not if you like retro games it's beast

  • i want a atari but i think i will be sad for wasting money im confused

  • @Boosterjustise look at craigslist. i got one for $10 bucks and a game gear for $15

  • How did you find out about this to buy it? There was no advertisement for it. Was it a web exclusive? I hope sales were high for it.

  • It came out in 2008 when it was supposed to come out in 1988 i think

  • I did logo back when i was at school, but I used to build vehicles out of lego and have the computer controll them, logo+lego=awesome! I didnt know they were still banging out games for the 2600, that's crazy and cool!

  • I wasnt alive to experience the classics and my parents think they are stupid so i cant really play them.

Heck i got a ps2 for my birthday and i had to return it cause they didnt want me 2 hav 1

  • Wow... I mean just, wow! (is short of breath) (rubs his eyes) An Atari 2600 game created in 2008? Amazing...

  • You open boxes like they are fine wines. Also I just bought an atari 2600. What would you say the 10 best 2600 games are?

  • @communistrecords He has a video in which he says his top 10 2600 games.

  • @ultragamer14 Thanks!

  • Awesome experience!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bring back game cartridges dammit

  • I dont open my sealed games, I just re-buy them loose =D

  • where did you buy this great game? I couldn't find it in ebay

  • We should reprogram all the E.T. games into new better Atari games.

  • @causedthefire I dont own at Atari.... YET, but i actually think E.T looks cool cause i know how to play it before i pick it up, i found a really clear and great walk-through on youtube, and it made the game look simple to me, although Atari controllers and controls are gonna take some getting used to

  • @Frogster7 then you must hate good games.

  • 2008 WIN!!!

  • This vidoe should be called Actionauts for Atari 2600 unboxing and review.

  • Introtunes are still too long and nonsense-music,

  • IMO, Atari 2600 box art is very distinctive (I love it). Especially early "Atari Inc." games like Breakout, Combat, Air Sea Battle, etc & Outlaw (Outlaw artwork was based on Clint Eastwood "The Outlaw Josey Wales" movie). Look at the DVD case for "The Venture Brothers" - Season 3, you can see they definitely payed homage to classic Atari box art. It literally looks like an Atari 2600 game vs a DVD movie. Kudos to the designer. BTW, where'd ya get this game? Homebrew right? Any left 2 buy?

  • The cover looks like Robotron.

  • how did you get actionauts it is really hard to find i cant even find it on ebay

  • i have it too...

  • i wonder where he got the game unless he ordered it special

  • this shows the staying power of the 2600 games are still released today.

  • i wonder if this is available on emulators?

  • @scottydu81 I'm sure someone's dumped the ROM.

  • "I don't collect these things to have them sit on a shelf and gather dust. I like to play my Atari games."

    You nailed it man!

And that game actually looks legitimately interesting and fun! What an amazing release to come out in 2008! I'm absolutely stunned and delighted. I'll never get to play it, but still, this is really great thing to have happened. Thanks so much for sharing, especially opening of the box for the first time for the rest of us!!

  • Go Mark! That's just what I think. Games need to be played, they DESERVE it no matter how crappy they would be. They were designed for that! Not to be in a box for all eternity :(

I just got a brand new Resident Evil 3 and I'm gonna rip it open and pop it in my PS3 as soon as I can :D

  • Rob Fulop e-mailed me today i got the 240/250 one hope its here soon

  • Hey, you need to sniff the 28-year old game when you unbox it!

  • Surely the release of this game makes the Atari vcs 2600 the longest supported machine in history.

Great review, i love all marks reviews even if im not up with the game or the console.

All we need now is more c64 reviews, c'mon mark do it.

  • @bazfanv2 Nope. That would be the Famicom (And somewhat the Fairchild Channel F).

  • @Bittergamer1886 How could it be the famicom (nes), that console was released years after the vcs, you may have a point with the fairchild if its had a game released in its native form and not emulation.

  • @bazfanv2 The Famicom's (Not NES!) run was from 1983-2003 with the last official game being released in 1994.

  • 2:57 I would have totally smelled the inside.

  • My copy arrived today number 206 of 250. Much fun.

  • Have YOU played Atari today?

    :-)

  • Well I WOULD, only my 5200 controllers are broken...............all four of them.

  • @SyriusBelsferg I play Atari everyday :)

  • @SyriusBelsferg maybe.....

  • that game must have costed a few bucks

  • In fact,about 70 bucks!

  • im jealous, a brand new game with a not scratched shiny box, for a 28 year old game console!

  • This game was new in 2008.

  • I love the sound effects in this game!

"Bip, bip bop, beep, bip bop beep bip."

And as for a robot who eats cheese? Genius!

  • I new Atari game? That's totally BirdAss! ^_^

  • If I remember, that "turtle" prgram is called Imgaine. My school has it.

  • That looks like one of the most tedious games they could have made -__-

  • what, no "atari force" comic? seriously, opening atari carboard boxes and all the goodness of flyers and stickers spilling out is something that has to be experienced.

  • I wish there were some people out there who decided to start making and programming games for the old Atari consoles. I would personally love to have this game!

  • Well there are poeple making games for atari 2600. It's called homebrew. I don't know if you can buy them but you can try to google it ;)

  • I know about the homebrew stuff, but I mean re-releasing of origial games in mass numbers by some company.

  • I actually have many designs for many games for the Atari 2600. If only I could learn how to program them...

  • Programming Atari2600 games isn't that hard now that there's Visual Batari Basic.

Gives you just about all the features without having to nitpick in Assembly level :D

  • that is cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • your back ground music was used in a game i have in the metal shop's computer lab at my school!!! the background music at the start

  • Demon Attack! One of my favorite Atari games back in the 80's.

  • they still do logo classes

  • Carnage Heart - PlayStation

  • wow......

if i were you at that moment..........

i would have broken down and criedTHATS the most nostalgic thing ive ever seen in my life

  • wow an atari game that was realesed in 2008? Thats awesome!

  • Be honest. If this game HAD been released in 1984, how would you have reviewed it?

I would have called it a poor attempt to copy Basic Programming and also quite boring comapred to other games like Pitfall 2 or Jungle Hunt or Kangaroo. I'd have felt I wasted 30 bucks.

  • A relatively new Atari 2600 game? Wow. The programmer seriously put the potential of the system at work. I am impressed!

  • I´d like to see more of those things coming from the past! Simply amazing!

  • I buy 2 of all of my atari games, one for keeping on my shelves, and one for playing

  • I like that logic: sounds like a plan I'd make :D

  • "Lock in all that...Atari goodness."

That line amuses me. Kudos ^_^

  • astronugets

  • Is there any way to get this anywhere?

  • guys who still produce games for defunct systems are truly awesome beyond words.

  • @xg4bx Damn right. What is even better about the "homebrew" gaming community, with 20-30yrs of programming knowledge, they have discovered there are a bunch of little programming tips, shortcuts, tweaks, etc, that original programmers didn't know about. They can make some better games. For instance, Atari 2600 "Pacman" (*Yuck*) vs "Hack'em" an Atari 2600 Pacman homebrew. It's as close to an arcade version of Pacman on the 2600 as you can possibly get & much better than the original 2600 ver.

  • @xg4bx Agreed, knowing how epic the oldest game consoles were, and still are. So many people act like they hate the old, but when it came to the Atari 2600, you just can't leave it alone.

  • @xg4bx Thank You :-)

  • Never ever heard of this game. Is this a homebrew cart? I like the swirley A too!!Between my brother and i we had about 80 carts in the day. Cosmic Ark, kick ass game!!

  • No it's not a homebrew cart, it was orginally done by Atari back in 84 around the console market crash and was shelved till 08 when the game's programer/desginer decided to re-release it in limited numbers.

  • Oh my gosh, I had to take LOGO classes in 1990-1994. I remember having to give POLY commands or something....I thought the Basic classics were much more fun...

  • I opened Raystorm for PSone (a great space shooter) brand new not a month ago and my friend snapped on me. I know this fear haha.

  • I think emulators don't do games justice, I bought the origional donkey kong country last night and the amasing feeling of opening the box and holding the cartige can never be emulated.

  • Yep. In fact, I never emulate anymore. The feel of the real controller with the experience of buying a new (well, used =P) cartridge, and playing it for the first time feels much better than downloading a ROM... even if I have to put up with slow 50hz PAL. =(

  • I know the feeling, DAMB YOU UNITED KINGDOM AND YOUR SLOW FRAME RATE...*sigh* why does pal and ANYTHING only availible in the UK suck? WHY? =(

  • It's not that bad if you haven't already played the game in 60hz on an emulator; but god it's annoying when you have.

I swear I would have spent WAAYYY more on the Wii's Virtual Console if it let you play the games in 60hz... and if it a harddrive to store them in the first place. xD

Another thing to bitch about the UK, Gordon Brown! xDDDDD

  • amen brother, i wish i lived in japan they get the best games that always get released, i want earthbound here in britain!

  • Yea, also Japan still has arcades. I want to play the silent hill arcade game. =(

  • Everytime I went into a Japanese arcade all I could find were those "claw games", Pachinko, and random music/rythm based games. Hardly any shooters, but it's ok, those claw games seem easier in Japan than they do in the states. (Problably cause most are at least 200 Yen for one play.)

  • The problem with playing the "real console" is that having 20 consoles laying around, plus games, takes-up a lot of space. Especially when you're living in a small apartment. (Also unfortunately my original 2600 died.)

Emulation allows me to have all those 20 consoles, plus tens of thousands of games, in the space of a single PC.

Nowadays the only thing I collect are computer games (Commodore/Amiga), because oftentimes it's hard to emulate the unique C=ASCII keyboards.

  • But emulators just arent really the same.

    :/

  • I prefer Plastic cases, because you'de see more older games with the case complete if they were made of plastic xD, SEGA games are easy to find with the box.

Oh and i'd rather buy another copy of actionauts to play and save that one xD

  • There are a lot of great homebrew Atari games. I got a copy of Ladybug a couple of months ago that came out in 2006. Its great.

  • Wow Exclusive Limited Edition! Congrats man, I had no idea that there was a brand new released Atari 2600 game released this year.

Wow that copyright of 2008 on a Atari 2600 game is boss!

  • THIS IS MORE OF AN UNBOXING VID

  • please review "Solaris" excellent Atari 2600 game. :)

  • lol big trak

  • Atari Age has some newly (this millenium) created Atari games. Thrust+, Star Fire, and Gunfight are new games that are good as any classic-era 2600 games.

  • Great vid.

Programming the atari 2600 is especially challenging, so those programmers are some of the best.

  • Great man for what you said at 2:31. I recently opened a special edition reproduction NES game that came brand new in a cardboard box just like how they used to do, and I got the same nostalgic feeling. It was great. I said the exact same thing to myself when I was opening the game.

  • Nice Cosmic Ark sounds! :)

  • cool

  • Kinda reminds me of that Megatrax car/robot thing MB games released in the 80's, oh how I wanted one of those as a kid.

But nice box though, did you smell inside the bag for Rob's sweet sweet breath? :D

  • What the F is a Megatrax? Did Britain get all the cool stuff? Well we invented the A-Team. Take Dr. Who and shove it! (just kidding Larry! I saw Dr. Who on Top Gear, he was funny) -CGRHD

  • Sorry I meant the Big Trak, I'd be suprised if MB didn't release it in the US, it was released around the same time as Simon.

Yeah, David Tennant is a funny guy, though theres a bit cliff hanger on the end of last weeks episode of Dr Who here, He dies/regenerates at the end of the episode!

  • wow i want that game so bad jus o unbox it lol

  • @InecomCompany i LOVE Doctor Who and i'm a US citizen!

  • @InecomCompany lol i watch the new series so wtf are you talking about but MISSTAA TEEE is still awesome

  • Amazing! I fully understand that you had to open the box and play the game. I do the same with my new developed Vectrex games. I can´t understand collectors that never open boxes. ;-)

  • 5:55-6:03 was the best XD. I fricken love you Mark, your voice and the simple comedy just goes so far with such a lack of effort. Amazing work man. Game looks pretty cool too. Sorry I'm one of those kids that grew up with SNES and such, but I'd always be open to play Atari if someone laid me out one.

  • I'm sorry but is that really a video game ?Because it looks like that crappy screen that comes up when someone's computer is screwy so I can't tell if it's an archaic game or a glitchy screen j/k

The packaging was nice and yeah, I do kind of prefer the old cartridges to CDs in a way i.e. for the reason you mentioned

  • Cartridges blow CDs out of the water... its sick he opened it though... that was a serious collector classic... a relic, not a game. :P

  • That is way awesome! My friend picked up a copy as well. He said it ran him like $90 with the shipping and everything. That is very much so worth it in my opinion. Way awesome video man! The game looks pretty cool.

  • Awesome job Mark.

Back in the 90's.... I purchased "Cubicolor" from Rob Fulop (Number 41 to be exact). It felt SOOOO cool getting a "new" game in like that.

I am planning on doing a You Tube video sometime in the future about it.

I should probably splurge and buy this game... that is, if it's still available.

  • Wow, it's so clear. All my Atari cartridges that my uncle gave me are all crusty. The staples in the instruction booklet are rusty.

  • the last time i felt really happy opening a game was the PS1 games, they all had a nice smell lol.

  • Don't let him fool you: he has two other one's in boxes, shrink-wrap, safes. ;)

  • What a beautiful sight to see a new 2600 cartridge released in 2008! My hats off to the programmers, we need to see more of this! :)

  • nice to see a colletor that dosnt mined opening the game :D

  • I acctualy have this game in my father's basement thou it has so much shit i never got to play this game T_T

  • I recently opened Mario Brothers for Atari 2600, was awesome.

  • Holy crap, where did you find this game? Digital Press or eBay maybe?

  • awesomeness overload

  • DON'T OPEN THE BOX!!!

  • Sealed boxes beckon to be opened! -CGRHD

  • I agree.

Things arnt meant to be collected. you play with them until you die.

  • i know, i had a sealed Panzer Dragoon Saga sitting on the shelf for like a year then i was like "oh screw it" and when i opened it i swear my brain had an orgasm lol.

  • Chu-chu Rocket?!

Kinda? Maybe a little. Or maybe not.

  • im not trying to be mean or anything but i love ur videos but ur introduction is really bad and it takes awhile

  • Wizkid, think of the 34 seconds like a 'load-time.' Oh, how the anticipation builds.

I like the intro. The beat makes me happy.

  • I agree. You cant have a CGRHD review without this intro.

  • one word: anticipation. that's what that song does for me.

  • lol true.........but if all he can do is like cut it down just a little bit......

  • I understand what you mean. We are just picking on you. It's the pack-mentality. You just happened to be the antelope that was stragling this time. It has happened to all of us. Glad you're around to enjoy the reviews like us though!

  • lol im not trying to get THAT technical im just saying the intro is a little boring

  • Nice thing about having an intro is it gets the popup ads out of the way before the video actually starts.

  • :P You should really get a blocker. Or get Firefox.

  • He means the ones that youtube now has inbedded in their videos I think.

  • I'm going to make the intro 20 minutes long now. It will have naked hot models dancing to ABBA holding wood grained Ataris over their heads. No... wait, no I won't. One of them might drop an Atari. -CGRHD

  • like indead said. I'm talking about the youtube ads. Actually I run flashblock so even the youtube videos get blocked until I click on them. :)

  • collectors of the world cry when your opening the box to the game :o
