Watching this odius whore makes me feel SO thankful, and eternally grateful that my mum and dad are understanding about me smoking weed. They could've bought into the propaganda, but they chose the facts. I don't do any 'harder' drugs (that includes alcohol.) I hold up a full-time job as a business banker, which I've done for over 6 years now. She doesn't deserve to call herself a mother. On the bright side of this, her 'boy' has done well to cut himself loose of this abomination.
Of the innumerable critics? Spoken like people who haven't been there before. Myerson didn't use her son's name, friend's names, nothing to give away privacy. Are his friends possibly hitting the library and reading her books & figuring out who he is OR are the very tabloids attacking her 4 *exposing* her son responsible for his outing. Hypocrites. I am going through something similar to the Myersons and I am ever so grateful for her story. She & her family are in my prayers.
i thank julie for this book i am going through absoloute hell with my two teenage sons hooked on skunk, the similarities are such i feel like i could have written this myself, it is a comfort to me to read this i have felt suicidal with what they have put me through and continue to do so far worse than julies son, untill you live through this dont be so quick to condemn
she cannot defend herself; she has given up on him and printing that novel is the symbolism. she kids herself that tweeting 'he's my boy' proves she still loves him...
she is a typical product of her generation of parents; she wants him to sort out the problem himself so she can continue her own career and life, and shes too in denial to realise that.
Why is there this weird trend in Europe of everybody talking about SKUNK!!!! I guarantee you he smokes other strains than just skunk; probably even some nameless strains that were bred at someones house. I would bet so much that he smokes all kinds of bud; Skunk, Afghani, Blueberry, AK 47, Purple Kush, Purple Skunk, Hash Plant, Purps, Diesel, Northern Lights. All strains are either Sativa, Indica or rarely Ruderalis; or they are any mix of Sative/Indica and sometimes Ruderalis
poor lad, why do they give uneducated people like this air time.KILLER SKUNK that shit will fuck you up,lol.if you were an educated woman which presumably you no doubt think you are,you would realise that KILLER SKUNK,is not new its been around for years.....FUCK ALL THESE UNEDUCATED MIDDLE ENGLAND FUCKING DAILY MAIL READERS.................WANKERS MATE
she keeps saying SKUNK because if she says cannabis people will be like "what the fuck, you mean the shit that has been around and used for thousands of years?"
i dont see why a higher THC is a bad things. You have to smoke less to get what you need.
I think this 'interview' was on all accounts a blunder. Not only was Myerson incoherent and addled, but Paxton was also very rude and aggressive. I thought he would have been more conscientious. She, however, has nothing to excuse her: her whole argument was that he agreed to it and so forth. How can a teenager/young man possibly find a healthier sense of self when it has been eviscerated for all to see. By his mother, no less.
This woman is a total bitch. She knows absolutely nothing about cannabis or its effects. Perhaps her son strongly rebelled because he realized that his mom was an insane bitch and he happened to like smoking a little grass like the majority of the population. She is entirely ill informed if she believes the "skunk" is something other than cannabis and that it causes violent and erratic behavior. She should smoke a little and mellow out.
Wait a sec, is Skunk supposed to be something new? How is it NOT cannabis? So, she let her son become total stoner for years and now wants to exaggerate the problem as a societal epidemic, so that no one can smoke a joint without possibility of being arrested. If he was a drunk, would she be talking about this insidious substance called vodka? Clearly she has an inability to listen to her son which may have made him feel isolated and start abusing drugs in general.
This is a woman who has openly insinuated that her father was a pervert, before revealing the whole matter was false, claiming 'I was very confused' - without, however, withdrawing her bestselling book. This is a woman who has fabricated several tales about her sister, tales whose internal inconsistencies make them impossible. Now, her son claims most of 'The Lost Child' is made up.
Should we believe a single word this woman spouts?
people like this imo the mot annoying up their own ass people around... publishing a book on something that they obviously have little knowledge on... and skunk is so dangerous? i would like her to name a casualty where she can prove that "skunk" killed someone... worst thing that can happen is some mental problems that come after years of smoking it everyday... i know quite a lot of people (including myself) who have smoked for a few years and none of us have paranoia or any other problems
If 'Julie Pike' joined the forces instead of taking the sleazy road of the media she would be a happy woman now. She looks bewildered by it all, her problem isn't cannabis it's liberalism.
God it's depressing - with the utmost bravery (I'm sure), taking the internet to comment on someone you've never met and a book you've never read, call them a whore and concede your own sad drug problem...depressing indeed...
If she was so 'worried' about the dangers of skunk then why did she not put the book online for free where more people could read it ? by making money of the back of her sons drug problem just puts a big fat VOID sticker over her mouth, almost makes you wonder if her and her son pre planned this???
Yeah a new epidemic called 'Skunk'. I've smoked many types of weed and my experience with skunk is that it primarily has a very strong flavor and smell. In terms of strength I've had something called Sugar. I ate more pizza than usual, get into your bunker everyone oh no! The fallacy is that it's so powerful so it's dangerous. No, you use less for the same effect. Hard liquor doesn't have more dangerous alcohol in it than beer, there's more, so you don't drink as much in volume as beer. Simple.
Why does this stupid bint keep getting airtime? Skunk IS cannabis!!!!

Once again: have you read the book? Since when did opinions become valid, when they are back by nothing, based on nothing, other than shallow observances and slander? She is a writer. She has created a piece of art. And art (whether fictional or not), can have enormous merit.
Art my arse even a blind person can see shes writing about her son (be it in a fictional or non fictional sense). And no i havent read the book, no need to, i smoke cannabis myself, and understand this situation first hand. Shes sold her son out and shes lucky her son hasnt turned to anything harder like heroin after kicking him out the house. Out of all the people i know smoking cannabis, the ones who do mess up are the ones with shitty parents like this mum right here.
I don't see why anyone needs to read the book, we've seen her take, her son's take and the father's take and it's blatant exploitation and betrayal of a child by a self deluded, self important parent. Her and her husband seem to live in a world of their own - clearly unable to deal with the realities of having a teenage son and blaming drugs for their ineptitude.
Pitchender: Why read a book about Cannabis use written by someone who seems to think that Skunk is not Cannabis! Thats like saying 'Whiskey is not Alcohol!'. Like another user said, that alone just shows how very little this woman knows about Cannabis.
She has been exposed as a liar on national TV and in the papers. For gods sake, this woman needs to have her head examined.
I have read the book and its a good example of how NOT to treat your kids if they're using Cannabis. Julie.M = Pathetic
I would be fascinated to know how many of those below have taken the time to read her book before passing (vicious) judgement: I have. And it's extraordinary. I also saw her son, Jake, on TV Friday night past - arrogant, conceited, weighted down with typical middle-class guilt. They are a damaged family, yes. She is a damaged person (what writer isn't). And why? Most likely because of that pretentious, faux-intellectual twit. "Read the book, don't burn it."
skunk IS cannabis, it's no stronger than other sativas indicas and certain types of hash, that alone proves this woman is talking absolute shit. The kid is probably just attention seeking. She doesn't seem very compasionate about her son more about her bank balance.
fucking crazy bitch. Maybe he didn't hit you because he was High on Skunk. Maybe he hit you because you were fucking annoying. When i'm blazed the last thing i want to do is hit someone i just like to sit and chill. And what is all this bullshit about skunk. One scientist says it and because the government has this drug war thing shoved up there arse they take those views on board and ignore every other scientific conclusion which believes cannabis is less harmful than tobacco or alcohol.
I just don't see what the problem is....many people publish memoirs that dive into their own lives in a similarly indepth way. She's no different. Why has she suffered such a backclash? It just doesnt make sense. Just avoid the book if you disagree with it.
She's a disgrace as a mother and that interview is equally disgraceful and is riddled in misinformation. No-one smokes 'skunk' exclusively against cannabis and despite the fact that it tends to be potent, only a fool would call it a dangerous drug. Potent strains of marijuana have existed for decades, as has cannabis oil which is even higher in THC yet but we never hear about that. Someone's been talking to Frank it seems.
In her opinion " The pen is mightier than the blunt"
What a horrid mother, It's not like he was smoking crack with prostitutes in her bedroom while babysitting his younger siblings......now he's really gonna have to blaze one to deal with the stress.
My boy my boy, Usually when mothers speak of there children they have compassion, this women speaks about her boy in such a methodically distant manner, that she obviously sees him only as a profit. what a nasty mother to have, hope he does a mother dearest book on her.
read some of her writing and you realize how narcissistic this woman is. it is all about -her- problems with the son, no doubt his apathy and anger comes from reacting to the woman's own self-centeredness. and the whole "SKUNK" scare is insane over the top neo-refer madness. the only problem skunk here is the parent! "I know it sounds disgusting the way you say it..." its disgusting no anyhow, anyway.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I admire Julie Myerson's courage: what is off-limits for a writer? Nothing, i my opinion. As Graham Greene said, "A writer needs to have a chip of ice in their heart." Her book is noble, impassioned, and necessary. That is all that matters: Art. Everything else is none of our business.
This woman is disgusting. If she is going to talk about Cannabis she should of at least done the neccesary research to find out what 'Skunk' is instead of spreading lies and disinformation.
All this reefer madness really has to end, we rarely hear from the scientists who are more knowledgable on this issue, instead we have foolish mothers exposing their family in a bid to gain exposure and financial gain.
Sure, if she's fictionalising her experience with her son you might say there's some artistic merit - if it's factual, though, it's probably exploitation and certainly not art.
yeh, i bet its not the blantant exploitation of his life story, but the sickly 'oohhhww, hes my boy, and i love him, and hes talented and humourous, and lovely, i mean hes my boy jeremy, ill never say a bad word about him'. Well then don't fuck around with his future by crushing any chance he might have of getting employment.
There was no need whatsoever to publish this book to benefit her son. It could have all been done wih pseudynm with exactly the same educational vale. Her son is addicted to skunk. She is addicted to disclosure and doesn't care who she hurts to get it
At every turn ,she Just refuses to be accountable for betraying her son. Typical sociopath/abuser. I wonder how she will feel when he brings his autobiographical book out.........(you can bet your bottom dollar that offer i$ out there for him!)
I love the way in every interview she says 'i don't care what people think about me'; which is bollocks of course the 'incontinent exhibitionism' as Janice Turner puts it comes directly from the fact she wants us to notice her.
this mum is fucking hot as fuck, but what the hells the problem with skunk- its for fags,,fuck skunk,,,this dude should come round ours, we'd start him off on the intravenous ketamine then maybe DMT,then bring out the big guns (snorting smack laced with lard, pubes, white dog shit, tapeworms and 3 year old dried out rim cheese). That'd sort the daft twats head out...So he's a caner, so fucking what?
good for paxo. stupid cow. way to hate on your son. if my mother was like that i'd be on the smack. i think he should be applauded for only reaching for the skunk.
I see how locking out your kid might ultimately help them. I see how confronting people with drug abuse might get them back on track. What I don't see is why this has to be translated into a book, a book whose proceeds aren't going to any sort of charity, a book that blends fiction and biography in a way that, for the man involved, is almost libel.
It's odd, though, that her supposedly 'destroyed' son is articulate and employed. How reasonable has her response actually been?
oh and one other thing...Paxo is an idiot for professing to have read the book as most newsnight viewers will consider this an endorsement. boycott this book!
Skunk isn't like cannabis, it is much stronger. There has been little research into the long term effects but it can create serious metal health issues. Heavy use can create depression amongst other things. She didn't think the book through in regard to it's effects on her son, she just wanted to create an awareness of a drug that's negative effects are not taken seriously because it is still classed as canabis!
Also, according to her husband (who, by the way, is as pathetic and self-centered as she is) they didn't actually know if it was skunk or not, they just assumed it because of things they'd read in the papers.
Bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents, bad parents.
Emergency? Epidemic? Please dont confuse your overzealous son with the rest of us. If you had paid this much attention to him as you did when writting a fucking book, you might not have had a problem.
so interesting how she constantly refers to her 20 year old son as "my boy" I think she's grieving her lost child who grew up as opposed to the child she lost to a supposed drug addiction. Woman, let go and allow your son to grow up, experience and learn from his own mistakes instead of you having to remind him of his teenage self for the rest of adult life.
My brother - who shall not be named, nor incorporated into a novel-wasn't addicted to cannabis. He once came to Sunday lunch in just his boxer shorts. My mother said he could not sit at the table unless he covered his nipples. After an abusive argument, he returned with insulation tape crosses over his nipples, still wearing his boxers.
Just typical teenage boy-ness... they're horrible. They're argumentative. They're aggressive. They're smelly. They grow out of it.
Did your brother also hit your mother and send her to the hospital?
I think Julie Myerson is a twit, but I think it's ridiculous how people are making out her son to be just a "normal teenage boy." If violence and abuse is
ok, just normal male behavior, we are a sick society.
Indeed, but you forget its the parents who wrote the book and their behaviour is even more repugnant; this is the father Jonathan Myerson writing in the Guardian
' I pick an argument and I pick it and I pick it and then I simply let go and am throwing a punch at him. Of course, I don't know how to punch someone. He easily knocks me away and we grapple meaninglessly for a few seconds.'
So where do you think the violence originated? Incidently that man is also a magistrate!
@clarapl (apologies for the 2 year gap - only just logged into youtube again...)
I agree that violence is never excusable. However, manipulation and aggression enacted in other, more covert forms is not acceptable either. If the book wasn't meant to publicly shame and undermine her now adult child then it was, at the very least, an act of naked profiteering from the trauma of a person who was then in her care. And she's not even 'on drugs'...
A half-hour's decent research will show clearly that the balance of evidence is firmly weighted toward cannabis use; it is far less dangerous than nicotine, tobacco, or alcohol and this is not seriously disputed.
This woman is an insufferable bourgeois idiot who it must have been suffocating to live with. I can't believe her kids didn't try anything worse than weed.
If she cares so much about her son or helping people avoid the "emergency out there called skunk" will she be donating the profits to help him or a drug abuse charity? I don't mean a token gesture either, I mean the majority or all of the profits. I doubt it.
Is her book as bad as her husband's Guardian article which tried to justify kicking him out the house with anecdotes like "...he insisted on coming to Sunday lunch in just boxers and picked an abusive argument when we asked him not to"?
Poor woman I had a teenage girl and I wanted to kill her then, the teenagers are so bloody awful

And why? Most likely because of that pretentious, faux-intellectual twit. "Read the book, don't burn it."

This woman is insecure and damaged.

skunk IS cannabis, it's no stronger than other sativas indicas and certain types of hash, that alone proves this woman is talking absolute shit.

One scientist says it and because the government has this drug war thing shoved up there arse they take those views on board and ignore every other scientific conclusion which believes cannabis is less harmful than tobacco or alcohol.

throwing ihm out fair game he is above 16 , if my folks had done the same again fair game.
writing a book to make profit from it, is just taking the mick for me.

Been there! understand exactly what she is saying.
Maybe shoulden't have written a book.
Bit of a betrayal, however just seen him on tv,,bit of a challenge,i would say.

I just don't see what the problem is....many people publish memoirs that dive into their own lives in a similarly indepth way. She's no different. Why has she suffered such a backclash? It just doesnt make sense. Just avoid the book if you disagree with it.
asantewaa84 2 years ago
She's a disgrace as a mother and that interview is equally disgraceful and is riddled in misinformation. No-one smokes 'skunk' exclusively against cannabis and despite the fact that it tends to be potent, only a fool would call it a dangerous drug. Potent strains of marijuana have existed for decades, as has cannabis oil which is even higher in THC yet but we never hear about that. Someone's been talking to Frank it seems.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I admire Julie Myerson's courage: what is off-limits for a writer? Nothing, i my opinion. As Graham Greene said, "A writer needs to have a chip of ice in their heart." Her book is noble, impassioned, and necessary. That is all that matters: Art. Everything else is none of our business.
pitchender 2 years ago
This woman is disgusting. If she is going to talk about Cannabis she should of at least done the neccesary research to find out what 'Skunk' is instead of spreading lies and disinformation.
All this reefer madness really has to end, we rarely hear from the scientists who are more knowledgable on this issue, instead we have foolish mothers exposing their family in a bid to gain exposure and financial gain.

Sure, if she's fictionalising her experience with her son you might say there's some artistic merit - if it's factual, though, it's probably exploitation and certainly not art.
I don't plan to read and find out.

yeh, i bet its not the blantant exploitation of his life story, but the sickly 'oohhhww, hes my boy, and i love him, and hes talented and humourous, and lovely, i mean hes my boy jeremy, ill never say a bad word about him'. Well then don't fuck around with his future by crushing any chance he might have of getting employment.

Exactly, and she sounds so insincere when she says it all as well.

There was no need whatsoever to publish this book to benefit her son. It could have all been done wih pseudynm with exactly the same educational vale. Her son is addicted to skunk. She is addicted to disclosure and doesn't care who she hurts to get it

what a disgraceful figure. She takes no responsibility for her son. Is it any wonder he has taken little responsibility for himself?

I see how locking out your kid might ultimately help them. I see how confronting people with drug abuse might get them back on track. What I don't see is why this has to be translated into a book, a book whose proceeds aren't going to any sort of charity, a book that blends fiction and biography in a way that, for the man involved, is almost libel.
It's odd, though, that her supposedly 'destroyed' son is articulate and employed. How reasonable has her response actually been?
jbreckmckye 2 years ago 4
Jeez, there is an obvious solution to this....
Legalise outdoor weed. Skunk isn't addictive. Let them smoke good healthy mild shit, and the problem goes away.
brandthedog 2 years ago
oh and one other thing...Paxo is an idiot for professing to have read the book as most newsnight viewers will consider this an endorsement. boycott this book!

smurfieboo 2 years ago 5
Skunk isn't like cannabis, it is much stronger. There has been little research into the long term effects but it can create serious metal health issues. Heavy use can create depression amongst other things. She didn't think the book through in regard to it's effects on her son, she just wanted to create an awareness of a drug that's negative effects are not taken seriously because it is still classed as canabis!
andyik1974 2 years ago
Also, according to her husband (who, by the way, is as pathetic and self-centered as she is) they didn't actually know if it was skunk or not, they just assumed it because of things they'd read in the papers.

badmichelle1978 2 years ago
so interesting how she constantly refers to her 20 year old son as "my boy" I think she's grieving her lost child who grew up as opposed to the child she lost to a supposed drug addiction. Woman, let go and allow your son to grow up, experience and learn from his own mistakes instead of you having to remind him of his teenage self for the rest of adult life.
smurfieboo 2 years ago 4
My brother - who shall not be named, nor incorporated into a novel-wasn't addicted to cannabis. He once came to Sunday lunch in just his boxer shorts. My mother said he could not sit at the table unless he covered his nipples. After an abusive argument, he returned with insulation tape crosses over his nipples, still wearing his boxers.
Just typical teenage boy-ness... they're horrible. They're argumentative. They're aggressive. They're smelly. They grow out of it.
rsnajdr 2 years ago 4
Did your brother also hit your mother and send her to the hospital?
I think Julie Myerson is a twit, but I think it's ridiculous how people are making out her son to be just a "normal teenage boy." If violence and abuse is
ok, just normal male behavior, we are a sick society.
clarapl 2 years ago
Indeed, but you forget its the parents who wrote the book and their behaviour is even more repugnant; this is the father Jonathan Myerson writing in the Guardian
' I pick an argument and I pick it and I pick it and then I simply let go and am throwing a punch at him. Of course, I don't know how to punch someone. He easily knocks me away and we grapple meaninglessly for a few seconds.'
So where do you think the violence originated? Incidently that man is also a magistrate!
midnightmilo 2 years ago
@clarapl (apologies for the 2 year gap - only just logged into youtube again...)
I agree that violence is never excusable. However, manipulation and aggression enacted in other, more covert forms is not acceptable either. If the book wasn't meant to publicly shame and undermine her now adult child then it was, at the very least, an act of naked profiteering from the trauma of a person who was then in her care. And she's not even 'on drugs'...
rsnajdr 3 months ago
A half-hour's decent research will show clearly that the balance of evidence is firmly weighted toward cannabis use; it is far less dangerous than nicotine, tobacco, or alcohol and this is not seriously disputed.
This woman is an insufferable bourgeois idiot who it must have been suffocating to live with. I can't believe her kids didn't try anything worse than weed.

Glad my mother wasn't like this vicious careerist cow.
And why are the media now so completely in step with the "evils of skunk" thing?
atipping 2 years ago 4
If she cares so much about her son or helping people avoid the "emergency out there called skunk" will she be donating the profits to help him or a drug abuse charity? I don't mean a token gesture either, I mean the majority or all of the profits. I doubt it.
Is her book as bad as her husband's Guardian article which tried to justify kicking him out the house with anecdotes like "...he insisted on coming to Sunday lunch in just boxers and picked an abusive argument when we asked him not to"?
