Had this on Amiga and loved every second of playing it even when i played bad the game wad still good :-) i am still very much impressed with what they achieved on the hardware of the time, especially the crash physics , as much as I love my GT5 and logitech g25 racing set up I feel polyphony digital could learn a hell of about realistic car to car contact and crashes by simply playing this game for 2 minutes :-)
I once won a 150-mile race (60 laps) with the Lola Buick. Went up one notch on the gearing, kept it from over-revving while still giving decent speed.
Me and my buddy used to have a hot lap contest wit this game... best practice lap. I think my best was 239.15 or something like that (I know it was 239). I 'acquired' the game again last week, found my setups on an old 3.5 disk, and was running 235's in minutes :)
Did anyone else use the mouse instead of keys/joystick for more precision? It used to work well until a bit of dust got caught on the mouse ball and off into the wall you went...
OMG you have a fast computer! i had to play this in CGA (4 colors) on low settings, on a 8Mhz computer with a 32Mb (megabyte, not gigabyte) hard drive, PC speaker, keyboard, i made it to lap 198, then tire blew on turn 3 and finished 2nd!
I remember as a child, i went to the LIBRARY, looked for the (1989 season i think?) and got the roster list to all the cars and drivers, and wrote it on a piece of paper, since the game only had numbers.
i think EA should re-do this game with todays computers!
i forgot to mention there was another game i had called "Ferrari Formula One", it had like a wind tunnel, and an engine dyno...that game was bad ass...
Why EA? papyrus is still around (under the radar) and so is sierra so why not the creators of the best racing sim instead of the creators of the worst? (Example= nascar 08 by EA) seriously papyrus was amazing. personally i grew up with their other fan favorite (nascar racing 2 and later on 2003) besides, papyrus and sierra need a comeback game. why not a remake of this? instead of letting crappy EA make it. (not that EA is bad, just simulation racing games) this game is owned by papyrus anyway
@hazzardwantcookies The guy who was most responsible for this game was responsible for some of my favorites... Including the best sim out there right now... iRacing. Check it out.
@hazzardwantcookies Spam??? I played this game and everyone i mentioned. Oh and it IS an app. Cuz I installed it on my computer. Let me check... there it is under applications. Idiot the guy who started Papyrus made iRacing. Now suck a fat cock and enjoy being wrong.
@quasiphatpaul you sent me the EXACT same comment as someone else did a couple of days ago on another video! i looked up iRacing and all i got was a Playmesh game called Street Racers!. give me the real name of it and maybe ill believe you
@hazzardwantcookies Ahhhh no wonder you think it's spam but it's true. Just search iRacing here on youtube you'll find thousands of gameplay vids. It's actually one of the best sims for multiplayer out there right now. Not a huge selection of cars tho because they put a lot of time developing each car. So unlike Rfactor theres not thousands of cars but you can be confident you're driving something really close to real life.
You could go 240+ in a Buick - but had to have the yellow Penske to finish. One fine evening in college back in 1991, I ran 200 laps with damage on and won (with a keyboard). Still feels good. I drank milk and all! :) My roomate thought I was insane. My thumb was never the same again after 200 laps!
Sure looks primitive now. But you are right it was a good product & it was a serious simulation. This brings back a lot of memories of sore eyes for me after many long hours trying win just 1 race! Thanks.

One of the best. Must have spent weeks if not months in playing this game. Just making tiny tweaks or watching crash replays was good fun.

It's the only race game I have ever played that required intensive training just to be able to make a lap.
I wonder if anyone has ever done the 500 laps. My best was 20 with car damage on.
The game was insanely difficult.

Always an Amiga fave was this
Stunning considering the A500's low poly pushing power and easily the best version
Best played on an A1200 but it still plays great on an A500 with low graphic settings
Superb engine sound
Title screen music is better than this video shows too
Lost a lot of time to this great game
Still plays extremely well

ironic is that Amiga 1000/500 had just 7 Mhz Motorola 68000, yet its hardware and software was orders of magnitude higher quality than PCs

I played this game when i was young and always though it was impossible to be 1st and even more impossible to qualify 1st.
I recently managed to qualify 1st with 230.80 Mph Avg, guess i improved a lot (to qualify 1st you have to beat 229,8 avg)
I also completed the 10 turn using march cosworth being 1st from the beginning to the end, no car crashed :D
Lola buick is the fastest car, i finished 1st with it, the 2nd being 10 seconds late behind! (That's a quarter of the track!)

cool vid!
I remeber this game, the menus were unreal for its time. The fact you could see tyre temps etc changed racing games forever.
I think 50 laps was the most I could ever manage.... using the arrows was a pain, but the crashes were good!
