Komatsu made the largest with their D155S. About 46tons with a 6 yard bucket on it. 275hp or something like that, one big machine to be sure.
I last saw a Cat 977 maybe around 10 or so years ago working for a demolition firm which is probably no longer in business.
The demise of the crawler loader as a production loading machine were numbered as soon as excavators stopped being your basic trench digger and took on other tasks.
Okay - this beast is cool !!! I haven't seen one of these in action in a loooong time. Do they still make crawler loaders big like this? And who makes the biggest one?
@cnote4461 check out access machinery equipment (like an auto trader for industrial equipment, they have a website). Hard to find track loaders at more than 4 cu yards. They are still being made, but aren't very common anymore. They're ground speed is a lot less than a wheel loader.
I agree about the Kelly ripper, I was wondering why they are not around anymore, I always thought they had some sort of style to them. The one on our D9g had a six foot shank.
I think people get the 8 in the model number mixed up with any D8 relations beetween the 2 machines, engine in the track loader is a D343, the D8 sports a D342. Not sure about finals and U/C but there is probably a couple of things common but at the end of the day the most common thing is it's yellow and burns diesel.
Thats a pretty low bucket volume to weight ratio... I suppose they were primarily meant as dozers and could load a truck if needed... articulated wheeled loaders are much cheaper to load trucks with, all the turning and twisting wears the tracks out...

Old Cats like this were fun to run. Dont see many 983s any more. Undercarriges wore out quicker than the 977s.
