I'm not a hater but I think Thom should've focused more in singing the song. The band sounds amazing and does a great job at bringing the album version to life but Thom's singing sounds off. Bah.
i kept reading the comments until I saw the downshifting guy who typed shit about how Thom shouldn't be dancing, and dude...kill urself or smth if his dancing is too POP or watever theory of dancing u were trying to lecture us.
Thom doesn't play for youtube, he plays for the concert. May not sound good to you on video but I guarantee that crowd was overwhelmed with the experience
I Love Thom but he should have calmed down for this song, you either sing or dance.. you cant dance and expect to sing good.. this is one of my favorite songs but it sounded like crap cuz he was bouncing around..
Give them some time, they'll get comfortable with eachother. Keep in mind Thom's been playing with Radiohead for 25 years, and has been playing with Atoms for Peace for several months. It takes time to get the feel down.
WOW...I would die to be here, what a song. I will say that Thom seems a bit uncomfortable with "atoms." So many individual talents comprise of the band but they just don't slip into such an easy groove that I'm used to seeing radiohead go into. Flea and Thom don't seem to be on the same page; just playing their own individual parts rather than playing with eachother and off eachother. I love the idea I just want to see thom with radiohead again!
As an Artist, there are times when you can do no more to express yourself then move. something in your core/spirit has to jump around. I just experienced this recently at my own show. Thom has never forgotten and seems to never fear fully expressing yourself. For this...I LOVE what he does and his music is brilliant.
The vocals sucks? Pfff you dont really need perfect vocals here when Flea and Thom are playing insanely good!! 3:45 onwards is pure bliss..just enjoy the music man
you say you're a fan, don't consider yourself as a cliché, try to fly with the song (thom always place something in the right place when performing).. but this is such a great performance which transmits the angry theme of the song. Also it has some "true moments", for example, take a look at the last part of the song, it has lot of feeling involved.

Vocals are doing better these days, but even for the sound on his recordings he's got a little way to go still to convey the same energy live.
After watching that documentary 'Meeting People Is Easy' I thought even though I love the emotional drive of his music he had the emotional IQ of a 14 year old. Watching him dance around like that I'd say he's grown up to the awkward college freshman phase - emotionally . . . Too bad - guess I'll limit my Thom Yorke exposure to song listening only.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Contrast this with when he did the same song on Henry Rollins without the lights and dancing. This one is good, the one without the hoopla was moving. POP music doesn't have the depth to entertain by itself so POP performers dance around to entertain. DJs have big light shows since they don't perform the music, but this music shouldn't need extras - they take away from the music. I'd be cool with just lights actually. With all his whining about the blind masses I'm fine calling him out on it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Never so much like THAT. I said POP music needs dancing to entertain since it's so shallow alone, but since Thom's music has so much more depth, dancing around only diminishes it. Moving his head as he's getting into playing Fog on the piano is one thing, the frat guy on ecstasy routine in front of a crowd is putting on an act. He's a vocal critic of people being fake; he's hurting his message with his delivery. Same thing with the Stones, Nirvana, . . .; acting up for attention = low emo IQ.
thom has always danced and moved in crazy ways. it's one thing to sit and play a song on the piano. another thing to put a sick beat in the club... he'd look ridiculous standing there still.
if you think he's being fake and acting up for attention, you're totally missing the point. he's just feeling the music, man. he's a well-rounded artist. appreciate the versatility.

Ah - it was Cymbal Rush on HR. Now that's the way I like it every time. I 'get it' when it moves me. We've got to stop eating it up whenever our modern musicians act outragous for the sake of keeping our attention. It's an insult. Leave shock factor to the Marilyn Mansons of the world. A musician like Thom giving in to the same Bread and Circus he rebukes is a shame.

Right back at you with the twist: Thom doing it, and you liking it leaves both your spines weaker. Thom's not some infallible pope. He's one of very few with a true artist's potential. I'm going to hold him to a higher standard. Ever since I watched 'Meeting People Is Easy' the other day I'm voicing my disillusion over what a full of it, spineless little spoiled brat Thom came across as. Then watching this dancing around nonsense really brought it home. Backbone and brains under my thick skull.

Maybe if someone would have called out John Lennon on his bullshit, elitist-wanna-be hypocrisy before it got so out of hand he could have actually accomplished something instead of just Imagine-ing it. Let's see, he ditched his band, moved to US . . . follow my drift? Thom's headed down Sell Out road! Follow him all you want, what do I care . . .
if you don't like it, don't watch/listen. it's THAT simple.
PERSONALLY I LOVE it. i LOVE that Thom Yorke is so ECLECTIC in his EXPRESSION as an artist. i LOVE his piano ballads, and i LOVE his freak out dances. i LOVE IT ALL. now piss off and leave me alone because i DON"T CARE about what YOU have to say. OK? ok.
and what i also love is that thom yorke doesn't give a shit about what you or i expect of him. he does what he wants, and if people love it - great. if they don't, they can fuck off and go listen to something else. cheers
well said rambler. not catering to people's expectations is a mark of a true artist. i did not expect to see so much sex from him at the echoplex but i'm not disappointed more like pleasantly surprised lol it does not take away from his genius.. he balances his pensive side with his fun and sexy side really well and if someone is looking for more serious and subtle performances he has plenty of those too
listen i'm sorry life is not working out for you and you're such a miserable fuck, but do you really have to expect everyone around you to be miserable too? people like to have fun sometimes. thom yorke likes to have fun sometimes there's nothing wrong with that. he loves to get lost in the music and dance, it's his escape, his sanctuary, and you come here and shit on it with your stupid irrelevant drivel. go listen to The Present Tense...listen to the lyrics and shut up once and for all
No need for sympathy ma'am. Life's so peachy this is the only thing bugging me these days. Worship your guts out.
well i guess then you never knew him in the first place. funny thing is that you yourself created this mythical ideal thom yorke that you wanted to believe in and worship, and when the real person didn't match that image in you head you got all pissy..stamping your feet whining 'why isn't thom yorke more like what i want him to be wah wah wah..' on the other hand we just like the real person for what he is, and yet we're accused of idol worshipping. good day to you too sir
@MsKatzo I read your comment. Is there a retarded, fucked up asshole out there who was so dumb enough to criticize Thom Legandary Yorke? if so, they should be locked up in a small, Insanely room forever.
oh I agree, I just hate the twats that say the vocals suck or whatever... You don't go to see thom yorke to hear him hit a perfect note, nor can a youtube video do this performace justice. You go for the energy and the moments. peace and love.
you know who else really sounds great live. yo muttah. and by that i mean all those tapes of your muttah having sex really dont do her justice. ya gotta experience that bitch for realz.
that fact that your muttah didnt want to take the time to lube up my dick before i slid it in her asshole causing quite a lot of anal leakage is whats tragic.

no dude, thats not flea, its tom york. are you retarded or something (dont answer that, cause judging by your username, i take it you are black, which means you are dumb)
What a moron....look on the right idiot, its Flea playing bass...oh no wait, you have absolutely no musical knowledge. And I am as white as can be kiddo.
....you do understand nothing in that previous sentence was serious? but how does me misspelling the name of thom yorke, misinterpreting the intention of your sentence, and calling you a dumbass niggah have anything to do with my musical knowledge
I don't agree. But still Thom Yorke is a great artist, i love Radiohead and the Red Hot. I was just joking about the fact that Thom Yorke is dancing in a funny way, and he's playing with Flea, from the Red Hot, a band who is known for dancing like mad men on stage.

I'd chalk this performance up to him having a few drinks and wanting to have fun performing his song.

Bass is great but the vocals suck.
TITANIUMTOMCAT 2 years ago
yeah, thom yorke is hit or miss a lot of times live... Not his best performance, but cool none the less cause Flea rages.

fuck flea, he should worship the ground thom yorke walks on
JimB667 2 years ago
Don't get me wrong I adore Thom but Flea shouldnt have to worship anyones ground...he's quite the groovy musician himself ;)

oh I agree, I just hate the twats that say the vocals suck or whatever... You don't go to see thom yorke to hear him hit a perfect note, nor can a youtube video do this performace justice. You go for the energy and the moments. peace and love.
JimB667 2 years ago 2
I see thats true its impossible for any singer to sound great in every performance. Even for a great vocalist such as Thom.

The fact you took the time to write such stupidity is sad.

that fact that your muttah didnt want to take the time to lube up my dick before i slid it in her asshole causing quite a lot of anal leakage is whats tragic.

no dude, thats not flea, its tom york. are you retarded or something (dont answer that, cause judging by your username, i take it you are black, which means you are dumb)
whokilledflea 2 years ago
What a moron....look on the right idiot, its Flea playing bass...oh no wait, you have absolutely no musical knowledge. And I am as white as can be kiddo.
BlackIroni 2 years ago
....you do understand nothing in that previous sentence was serious? but how does me misspelling the name of thom yorke, misinterpreting the intention of your sentence, and calling you a dumbass niggah have anything to do with my musical knowledge
whokilledflea 2 years ago
Sucks to be you lol

Like the color of his skin has to do with anything. If anything, white people are probably the stupidest race (I'm white, for the record)

lol, Thom has been dancing like a nut for ages. Any song where he doesn't have an insturment he pretty much goes crazy.
He;s not imitating Anthony Kiedis, sheesh.
WickedLiquid 2 years ago 4
hmm
i don't think you can compare yorke and kiedis at all.
two different kinds of musicians.

Does he thinks he is Anthony Kiedis just because he's playing with Flea ? lol
rafaelmadferit 2 years ago
@rafaelmadferit dude what is that supposed to mean? .....thom does what he wants.
xman682 2 years ago 2
Don't take it serious man i was joking, i know he does what he wants..
rafaelmadferit 2 years ago
Anthony Kiedis is not even close to Thom Yorke.. thats like comparing a 10 year olds finger painting to Dali.. or a blue piece of paper to the ocean
VanishingAct27 2 years ago 7
I don't agree. But still Thom Yorke is a great artist, i love Radiohead and the Red Hot. I was just joking about the fact that Thom Yorke is dancing in a funny way, and he's playing with Flea, from the Red Hot, a band who is known for dancing like mad men on stage.

I'm so glad that flea seems to really like this album, when i first heard about this line up i wasn't sure how much he'd be into it but they all fit together brilliantly
