I have a similar rig minus the matte box and ended up tweaking a lot of it to get it where it should be. One thing, for sure, is you need counterweights on the back plate or else the rig is too heavy. The bigger problem I've had is simply the lack of customer service. I recently had to file a complaint because I never got my order and there was no communication from them. It is a shame because these shoulder rigs shouldn't cost more than the camera and that was indisystems whole concept.
I will agree with you when it comes to its french flag, but what works for me is tightening the flag in the down position and then lifting it into place seems to do the trick. The handle on it is weak for me too. Its also a pain in the butt in trying to fit in the follow focus and matte box with a prime 50mm Canon lens since its length is short. About the only think I liked are the snap rings and that it is cheaper than the others.
Thank you very much for posting this. I was about to order the exact same rig, but I had suspitions about it. So I think I'm going to go for the CPM Flyer shoulder rig insted.
thank you for NOT slathering compensated praise on these highway robbers!! i seriously appreciate telling it "like it is"...great review...you were not condescending at all...which is hard to avoid once you have spent hard earned coin on something...especially something at that cost range...thanks again!!
Jerkenvesen, sure whatever you want. No one is keeping you from buying it but even if I were a weekend shooter and only used it once in a blue moon it still would be a piece of junk that needs to be revamped before they advertise it as a working piece of gear.
@stanlymanly2 Yah the rails were strong. Really most of the rigs out there right now the rails will be strong especially if you are using them for DSLR setups. I have liked the carbon fiber rods for the weight. The camera profile gets larger and more stable but the weight doesn't jump to super heavy. Can a RED one system run on fiber rods? maybe if they were thick enough but I would stick with steel for a heavy camera like that.
Well I understand the disappointment here. But I have to say, even with all these flaws it seems to be not bad for the price. I have been building my own rigs to avoid the high cost of rigs like this one. I really think I could over look the flaws for the price.
@MammalAnonymous you know it. Working on that right now. About to start the P90X. My wife has done a few rounds of Insanity by the same people but it's too intense for me.
@CammonRandle thats strange, I must have been drunk when I wrote that, but I was saying you look like a chubbier version of tom cruise. Not insulting, just making a connection
@MammalAnonymous Hey man no worries not insulted at all. Just making conversation. Infact I am about to hop on the bike and do a few miles this morning. So how did you find this video? Are you into cameras and such?
@CammonRandle I was looking for reviews of DSLR rigs, not sure how I came upon your video, I may have searched DSLR rig, I recognize they often lack function for their price and a lot of it is just the aesthetics providing a more professional look when shooting, so I still want that one you have there, but damn the price is just ridiculous.
You seem like a nice guy and very competent, and these indisystem guys sound like assholes, great review man, it was long, but not longwinded, A+ content
Yah the CPM tools stuff looks cool but their cage ends up being a little bulky for me. They are coming up with good ideas daily. I wish they would update their site I have seen reviews of some of their products on youtube channels but can't find them on their site or they have not made them available yet. I took the risk and went with a "over seas" company and have been quite happy. Full review to come soon
Great review brother, I was going to go with these guys but I bought an even crappier model from China. This crap is so freakin' expensive it's frustrating... CPM film tools seams to make pretty good products for a reasonable price though, everyone likes it.
@dshrode16 It's always a risk going with the China guys but sometimes it's a good surprise. I really need review it but I got a Iinda knock off that has been working great for me.
Thanks for this excellent review. I've been looking for reviews on the Indisystems products, but couldn't find much. I was going to buy from them out of blind faith, but definitely not now.
Thanks for the review, I'm looked at a few different companies for an expanded rig setup and am very tempted to buy one of the packages from Indisystems, but I'm thinking now I'll stick with my Jag35 Runner rig and just add a carbon fiber baseplate-rails setup from CPM Film Tools and wait on the mattebox and follow-focus. The Shoot35 looks like a robust choice for the mattebox.
Yah it is. At least this is the one they called the Bulldog when I bought it. There are a few different ways you can configure it and the one on the website shows the smaller one. This is the sholder mount configuration.
@dewby144 Uhhh, no it's not. If you go to Indisystems website and look at the Bulldog rig, you'll clearly see that's not what it looks like. That's the UltraCompact rig.
@JoshuaBeeLoved Ok big guy, I can easily see how you would be mistaken but you are mistaken. There are a few things that make this different from the Ultra Compact that Indisystems makes. First is the forward handle grips on the rig, you can see at 3:34 how the forward gips on the Bulldog rig compress around the whole bar the reason they do this is on the Bulldog rig that forward bar is carbon fiber. The handles on the Ultra Compact screw down on an aluminum bar.
@dewby144 That is why they have a significant design difference. The shoulder support bar is made out of carbon fiber at 15mm while on the Ultra Compact it is a 12mm and made out of aluminum. At 4:12 that cool nifty ball thing the Ultra Compact does not come with that is probably the most significant difference between the two rigs.

You do know this is just a beginner rig. If you want something pro, get a pro rig with a pro price.
