Dude you are clueless on how to overclock this CPU !!! Why you giving bad info to ppl !! I have this CPU ... And never put voltage that high on a Gulftown CPU !!!! I am running @ 4.2 ghz @ 1.256 volts !!! Validated by cpuid !! And people don't set the BLCK and Multiplier his way it's all wrong !! Set BLCK to 200 and Multi to everyone knows that but Linus !! That's for 4.0ghz ,,, for 4.2 just bump multi up to 21... That is the PROPER WAY to overclock this CPU !!!!
I have this cpu on my classified 3 motherboard. I am running it on air until i figure out how I'm going to water cool it. Anyway, my heatsink (V10 Cooler Master) should be able to get me to about 4ghz easy. However, I'm skeptical about following this tutorial without knowing what I'm doing. Do you guys have any suggestions on books or sites that I can use as a form of research so that I can learn how to overclock and know exactly I'm doing? If so, I'd appreciate a reply. Thanks
Yah, that's messed up man, it needs to neg pin 14, all the tech will run if you power the ground instead of the high. This means no electrons are added to the CPU, it actually has to steel them from the case, and it will work with all the electronics in pure mode. Some diagrams show multiple negative 12 volts that have to be turned positive, but that would really really be worth it, and its only $650 now on google. How to decompile for 12 cores?
can this be done with the i7-980 with same results? im running a Rampage 3 extreme, i7-980, 12gb ddr3 Xms3 2000mhz ram, evga gtx 460 1gb. i want to get it to 4.0ghz but im new to OC, and voltage settings are jibberish to me. since this setup is Darn close to mine, can you tell me Stable settings? My current settings are set to X.M.P mode Core speed 3444.2mhz Multiplier x24.0 Bus Speed 143.5mhz QPI Link 3444.1mhz do you know the most efficent settings to achieve a stable 4.0ghz from my Bios?
Hi, I am from the year 2068, and my AMD 1nm 6600t BE @ 9840.2 Ghz (temps @ -3.2 Celcius ) is serving me well.
But, is it a viable upgrade for me to get the Intel i56 350000k @ 3200 Ghz stock? I am running the Corsair H3000 with 20 fans in push/pull, pretty sure I can overclock it past 10000Ghz.
lol. i just bought myself a quadro 4000 aswell. unforuntaly the 2 GTX 580's did a better job. so the quadro 4000 is just sittting around. I'm gona have to sell it on ebay or build a 3dsmax specific pc on the side.
I am not in a hurry to upgrade and I still can wait but I just wanted to know about what the heck is Intel doing with all of these sockets. There are too many sockets that could be obstacle to our future PC upgrade. It looks like the ugly history is repeating again.
In the past (in 1990s), some people are not able to upgrade their CPU after they just bought their new motherboard & now, its happening again & Intel is not learning from its past mistakes. This also happened to the early LGA 775 motherboard, if I'm correct.
Ive got a Corsair H70 cooler on my 980x running at 4.0 ghz, and after 30 min of Prime95 torturing (12 threads), only one core peaked out at 57 C, average temp was 54 C across all 6 cores at 100% load. much better than the stock HSF.
@IanasAnd correction they have 1100t processor which is just as good as this and is alot cheaper as well amd have there new series processors coming out this month or next month
To be honest Prime 95 is horrible, if you wanna see your i7 dying, I dare you to run intel burn test by agentGOD. Obviously, you will get higher temp with intel burn test.
@TheRammsteizer well...yes becuase it can be over clocked higher but, before you buyit the values are just not right with this processor, it's just 2 expensive only buy this one if you really need it
@iTzDANiiEL with liquid nitrogen cooling..you could run that cpu for more than 5 years easily. 30 to 40 c for amd and intel cpu's for the past 7 years or more at least..have easily lasted 7 years under the right voltage settings and if the motherboard is made for it. ( 10 yr custom builder here. I still have an amd 3000+ 2.0 ghz single core running at 2.6 ghz since day one and i still use it every day for work and older gaming multitasking semi constant temps at 43 c with aftermarket cooler.
No i checked it in gaming it never went over 50C aslong the cpu isnt at 100% load everything is fine
I remember testing my i7 980 at 3.3GHz with the stock cooler and tested it with prime i got almost the same results it is realy hard to get 6 cores verry cool
@HowToHDTutorials -.- fuckers want more, they should upgrade the grapics cards, or hard disks. since any 4 core with 2ghz+ will do more than fine even on crysis 2.
The engine requires way mroe grapic power. only games like starcraft 2 is heavy on cpu out there atm.
gr8 man i was working in overclocking for the first time after reading alot of guide's and help i got from many forum.... u made the video i was in the need of it .. it helped i overclocked 3ghz to 4ghz my i7 ty
anyone could tell me what motherboard thats awsome with Intel Core i7-980X and the best cooler? im not intressed of over clocking i just keep it at 3.4 im thinking of buying this...
@Keahlii sorry.. i know this i7 is great.. but i don't know y i hate intel?? i want this intel down!! i wanna see a new world!! i wanna see AMD world!!! :)
@Othy27 I have both a intel 6core 980x extreme and phenom II 1100T black edition and love em both so I honestly dont see the fuss I think the AMD card has a little more performance from what ive read but idk idc
@blowupuate13 nothing can use 48 cores, and will be largely pointless. Intel will always beat clock for clock... and i'm an AMD fanboy - 1055t @ 3.8ghz
But if you want better graphic performance, i would choose:
3 way gtx 580, and an intel core i7 950.
A 1000w power supply would be enough, but i would rather choose for 1200w, since it is better to have to much wattage on spare, then not to have enough.
PS: A dual 570 configuration can eat up to about 800 watt of power on full stress mode. Reserve power supply for the processor, and the rest. Ads up to +400 watt, depending on the hardware.
Well AMD always sucks at benchmarks but excell in games and prices so if you are aiming for games, go for AMD + ATI (or Nvidia). Intel is mostly better for video processing (unless your GPU can do all the work) and also support for thread oriented applications is better (you wont use this very very likely unless you do some paralelization, virtualization or advanced math). If you do need those, you will most likely want to spend your money on Xeon, not dekstop i7.. Amd is wiser choice IMHO...
@BKsMassive buddy no chance Intel had to bye Dual core technology of AMD you are an idiot AMD doesnt heat up as much and Intel does not have 6 core technology.
AMD is cheaper and better value then Intel and its just as good if not better. my god look at that stock fan its huge for the Intel just to say the AMD stock fan for the 6 core chip doesnt have a huge stock fan because it doesn't heat up like that piece of crap.

you really don't need to overclock an i7 980X, it's already a MONSTER as it is.
SpeedKnotz 1 year ago
what power supply do you recommend for sli 570 and the 980x? would a 1000w be good enough or should i go with 1200w?
IANVeta 1 year ago
@IANVeta
sli 570 is a good setup.

Video Card is ATI Radeon HD 5450
