I don't know if they're ripped from the anime or what, but the portraits here are amazing. Kouji's...Koujiness is captured perfectly, and for the first time in SRW Tetsuya doesn't look like he's pushing 30. It's a shame the portraits are getting so neglected nowadays(hello DS/GBA games). They really add so much to the atmosphere.
@katanamaker I think its actually suposed to be coming from his lower chest(like where its ribs would be) but the chibiness makes i look like its coming from....there.
SRWs just feature various robo animes and make them suitable for older kids and teens to play because, no matter how bloodly or dark they originally were, they are gathering up there to fight for justice, cooliness and saving the earth from bad guys. Watching the original animes are just what we people like to do.
Any children's show made in the "70's" (as you emphasize so much) has a fanbase from that time. FYI, 30 yrs have passed since said time. Your comments are now directed to people with adult lives who have solid criteria of their likes and dislikes. The fact that the series you watch involves the slaughtering of all characters at the end does not make then any more "adult" or "realisitc". Think a bit more when you decide to pass judgement over the likes and dislikes of people, yes?
Ok so why are we talking about 70s children show? Mazinkaiser is from the 2000s, and it's not for children. Even the rating says so. The new getter robos are so bloody violent it clearly deserves an 18 + as well.
Every single work made by Go Nagai (except for enma-kun) is officialy "for mature audiences only" due to their sexual (and violent) content, up to the point that he exceeded the limit of said contents in the media, Hell, he even quarreled with the PTA because of that.
Oops, wrong statement there, Nagai actually introduced sexual humor for younger audiencies (a big No-No back then) with Harenchi Gakuen (that's how he quarreled with the PTA) and meanwhile, his entire mecha concepts were just epic. A very creative concept indeed (no SR series if it weren't because of him.)

It's amazing that they have a mature anime's robot in a children's video game. That's kind of like taking a monster from Wicked City and putting it in Pokemon.
Have you ever seen any of the old SRW games from the early 90s? There's even an RPG with Banpresto Originals that also has Power Rangers and SD Gundams. Mazinger Z and Getter Robo were children's shows in the 70s. Don't tell me about SD Gundams and Power Rangers being for people like you and me.
I will say that Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rahxephon, L-Gaim, Aura Battler, and Nadesico are not children's shows. No children's show, not even in Japan, involves all but the main character getting slaughtered on the last episode.
Your logic is VERY flawed. SRW being a children's game series because old-school children's anime is featured, then you say that more mature shows are simply "out of place"? You might as well say that SRW is a game series for mature people, since that's the way you think of some shows featured, and that the children's shows are out of place.
Also, as people have pointed out, many series were watched by people when they were small and thus have nostalgic value.
I, for one. I like the gameplay, the animations are eye candy. I use whatever robots and pilots I like from various shows and upgrade them. Playing around with stuff I know and love from various shows is pretty damn neat.
R1 + Start for skipping dialogue in the PS2 titles is damn neat to avoid all the copy-pasted story I've seen too many times when I want to get into the action instead.
Yeah, I saw that clip on YouTube where even the kids get killed. Included is the infamous scene where a little kid gets his head blown off by a ray gun.
I really don't mind violence in anime, it's actually WHO gets killed. The thing that separates Japanese fiction from American fiction is that you can make a sure bet that children are not going to be spared in Japan. F-91 was depressing to me, especially when everybody left in the space colony flew into space and died, even dogs and trees.
Giganto misile is launched at the lv of the belt in the thing that unites the belt xD it is not the ............. for god is sake are you who think that just morons
I think the 3D SRW games should be full form size, not SD size.
Having them both in SD is dumb and just makes the 2D ones look that much better.
Leave the 2D ones in SD because theres no way in hell you could reproduce Gunbuster standing next to a Gundam accuratly in 2D without it looking ridiculous.
I agree with kyo182, the SD models are way better and this game should just stay as a 2d sprite game because the attacks here are nowhere near as flashy as the original games
When you aimed for the boss... where the hell did you aim for, the head? Did you use your Battleship to shoot him down (judging by the stats) or did some Event happened?
Giant Missile GO! .. it would make a VERY BIG explosion, and not a weak flash.. >_>
Kaiser Blade is EVEN TALLER than Mazinkaiser itself! I wonder how Mazinkaiser can estract it from its chest, for all of it's length! Maybe poly-form metal..
mazinkaiser is the actual king/god of all mechas like mazinger was in the beggining of time...ashley mazinkaiser kill´s mazinger and then he took the throne...lol
The "two face guy" is repeat half-man/half-woman villain Baron Ashura from the Mazinger series. He/she becomes part of that particular enemy, Hell King Gordon, in the last episode of Mazinkaiser.
Baron Ashura, one of the minion characters from Mazinger Z. Mad science experiment using to surviving halves of a man and woman to create a living breathing hermaphodite villain.
The official name is 'Final Kaiser Blade', I think (It's used by SRW W, and in the dub, it's called the 'Final Blade'), to differentiate it from the Kaiser Blades he pulls out of his shoulders in Mazinkaiser vs. Ankoku Daishogun (Or whatever it's called).

For those of you pissed off at the comments I made, I called SRW a children's game for the following reasons:
1. Usage of children's shows from the 70's
2. Usage of SD Gundams with pupils in eyes
3. The references to Hero Senki (which I call a children's game because it included Kamen Rider and Ultraman, kid's shows from the 70's).

The same suspension of disbelief technology that powers the Getter Robo was also used in the Kaiser Blades and especially the Final Kaiser Blade.
Too bad that in sprite form, the Final Kaiser Blade is only as large as his other two swords (At least, in W it is).

That is incorrect. Getter Robo is powered by Getter rays. Mazinkaiser is powered by photo-atomic (koushiryoku) energy.
