i knew that roman numeral 3 on the map design was significant. i always thought this was the first whistle, but i never knew why there was an III where you find it.

The Fire Bros must have been the bandits the Princess referenced in her letters. Also she tells you about this and the very first whistle way too late to do anything about it. :P

You only need two to get to World 8

I like how the water in the top right part of the map says 3, as if to say this is the third whistle, almost like a hidden joke the programmers put in.

i think i found this whistle when i was 5 by just running around

if you get the two first whistles then beat world one and teleport then you can get to world eight

when you've got two whistles and you use the first one in world 1, you can use the second one in the warp zone to get to world 8

there are at least 6 whistles

1-1,1-3,1-4, 1-castle 2-depected here and 5-1 Thats all I know of

There are only three: in 1-3, 1-castle and in world 2
