I was about eight years old when this match took place. It's at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis.I've tough Judo and Ju-jitsu for about twenty eight years and yes this was scripted but oh so different than what's televised today. St. Louis was the Pro Wrestling capital at that time because the president of the N.W.A Sam Muchnick lived there . Got to see some some the greatest pro wrestling ever at the old Kiel Auditorium. Bruiser, Thez, Funk's, Von Erick, Valentine, Race.,many more.
So when wrestling was considered a sport, it was held in a theatre setting. And now that it's theater, they tour stadiums and hockey arenas. Makes sense?
the ending roll up was pretty awesome sept the count was slow and totally fake looking. btw yes it was still scripted back in the 50s and 60s. the 20s and 30s was when it was unscripted.
the crowd seemed to take wrestling for what it was and enjoyed it .dinner and wrestling instead of a movie.joe was a sport and did not have a lawyer on speed dial.
A really good all round & enjoyable vintage match & 1 with a difference, even some humour into the bargain, despite the side margins, the camera followed the guys action well, along with excellent close up shots on them, including the real smart pin-fall ,with a amiable embracing finish. The punters certainly got thier dollers worth, with an after match demonstration of holds.More of a Greeco / Roman style match rather than what we are use to seeing now. Many Thanks for posting, much appreciated.

O'Connor was a powerful and well built Irishman with the intelligence, muscle and talent to completely outclass Parente, who never had a chance.

When I interned at KPLR, I got to watch this tape. It's the oldest surviving copy of Wrestling at the Chase.
