  • what is sodash?

  • what the hell//// its like half sink/ half bath tub.. and its soo dirty

  • whats wrong wit your sink

  • Very nice job!

  • I have this gorgeous red-purple burgundy dye that I am going to use to tie dye a bag :) It'll look GORG

  • Very nice. I'm thinking this would look great on a pareo.

  • can you make a video showing how to tie die a hoodie please?? (:

  • 2:13 "now it's time to DIE!!!!!!"

  • substitute for soda ash is sodium carbonate found at the pool store

  • I love the shirt!

  • is there any substitutes for soda ash?

  • Great video you actually probably helped out many people(:

  • nice black rubber gloves..i`m like these..:-)

  • what size tye mix do you buy?

  • That shirt looks awesome! :) Thanks for putting this up. I'm dying one of my favorite shirts today or tomorrow and I want to make sure I love it ! lol this looks great.

  • how would you do it if you only had to colour's to use? thanks

  • why my dyed shirt didn't stay bold for long after a few days?

  • Do you have to use Sode-Ash?

  • Mumbler!!

  • Good video but you voice is fucking anoying!

  • i have a question , instead of using all of those colors can i just use 2 colors over & over?? like how you put one color at a time on the shhirt , for example could i just use like blue & orage , blue & orange over & over again. would it still turn out like yours?

  • this is the best tye dye video there is

  • I use cold water, is that fine?

  • That was a pretty good demo. I rinse mine in cold water and use hot water in the wash.

  • I do mine way differently. I go to a craft store and buy dye kits which come with the dye powder and you just fill them up to the line. Then I tie my shirts and die them the same way you did, then I let them sit in my sink or where ever for the night. In the morning I un-tie them (I don't rinse them) and then let them dry and wear them. It's a lot easier and does the same thing as everything you just did.

  • where can you buy soda ash and the dye?

  • Cool thanks for this video. I also used the kitty litter box hahaha.

  • lol 2:14 "and now it's time to DIE"

  • lol after your done dieing....what are you killing someone...i kid i kid!!! at 4:41 is what im talking about lol

  • You never need salt, soda ash is an absolute must, it's what makes the color vibrant, and how it stays. I have never used salt and my dyes are bright enough for sun glasses, never run, fade, etc

  • @64delftlover i never use soda ash and mine are perfectly fine

  • we made shirts 2 days ago and when we washed them out they turned pink because the red washed threw them. We didnt Soak them before like you did. Would that have been the cause?

  • is it soda ash that ensures the solution to stick on the fabric. do the colors bleed away if soda ash not used?

  • is procion a type of dye or a brand of dye? what does the soda ash do in the dye? in my shirts the colors fade in wash and i cant think of a reason why.

  • mix the dyes

  • woow! looks amazing. me and my friend are making ours tomorrow, and you deff explained it easier than anyone. BUT, how do you make like green and purple? our kit only came with red blue and yellow.

  • green is yellow and blue miced together, purple is red and blue mixed together

  • This is an awesome tutorial and thank you for sharing it with us. Your shirt turned out so good and it looked easy to do=)

  • I've been looking for a simple rainbow tie dye video and this this is the best one so far that I've found! Thanks for uploading it!

  • farrrrkk, that looks soooo good

  • wow! really great job with this video very educational

  • what is actually soda ash?

  • hey, i got a great tip that may help all of you out. te best way to keep the colors from fading s to hand wsh them. i make shirt deigns by hand and i have found this to be the best way to keep colors onanything even if it isnt made by you to keep your true colors just hand wash

  • how do you make tie dye ink???

  • thats probly the coolest shirt iv ever seen made :)

    thanks soo much !!

  • yay!

  • Awesome shirt!!

  • how much is tye dye and soda ash?

  • intense gloves

  • THAAAANK YOOOUU!!!!

THIIIIS IS THE VIDEO I'VE BEEN LOOKKING FOR!!!

thanks thanks thanks! It turned out AMAZING!! :D

  • im kina scared of putting it in the washer lol

  • 2:13 And now its time to dye! lolololol

  • this shirt is so cute!!

im so gonna try this out.

    thanks :D

  • You should of kept Green Red and Yellow for the Rastas...Jah love

  • you are legit.

  • Instead of salt to help the colors set, I think you can use white vinegar. I know people who use it.

  • i just want to eat your shirts while your adding in the dye rofl

  • Do you use urea or synathrpol? We just did a tie dye project this weekend and used both but I can't really tell if they made a difference.

  • I use urea from time to time, and honestly, I don't know the difference either, lol

  • The salt helps the color set. <3

    Love the shirts...=)

  • is soda ash baking soda or is it different?

  • They are different, soda ash is sodium carbonate, and baking soda is sodium bicarbonate.

  • wow that was great this waas like the olny video on youtube that actually worked

  • You dont need to put it in a bag and wait 24 hours or longer.. I waited maybe an hour or 2 and they look good!

  • my tie dyes awlays drip sooooo much, is there a way to make them stop?

  • You could use a thickener, like sodium aliginate, to make the dye into more of a paste.

  • "i love my pink" 4:00 hahaha

hey, awesome video!! thanks a lot i enjoyed it ;)

  • is there a way to keep the colors dark?

  • put more dye powder stuff in the bottle

  • Letting the shirts soak longer is the best and easiest way. You can also try using sodium alginate to make the dye thicker. Also, it's said that urea is suppose to help make colors more bold.

  • the dyes wont stain your washer after putting them in ? also, how much salt do i use ?

  • No they will not, they completely rinse out. There isn't an exact measurement of salt, lately I've just been adding about a tsp of salt in each bottle of dye.

  • Since i can't buy all this stuff is it ok if i can just use water to soak the t-shirt or is it a must have to make the die bond?

  • It depends what kind of dye you are using. If it's procion, soda ash is necessary.

  • 2:15 "And now... It's time to die" haha

  • To answer your first question, if you are using procion dye, after the initial wash, the shirts will not stain other clothes when washed. To answer the second, again, if you're using procion dye, you can wash all the shirts together without rinsing them and they won't get ruined. When I made this video I was yet to try doing so, I was a little scared, but I have tried it and it's worked fine. You just need to make sure the shirts have been sitting out in the sun long enough to cure.

  • after making the shirt, when you wash it with other clothes, will it stain the others ?

  • the shirt came out nice but I wanted to know where to get tie-dye?

  • where do i buy the dye and the soda ash ??

  • Did you use the fork for the shirt you made in the video? My friend and I love that spiral but can't tell if you did it by hand or with the fork.

    Thanks!

  • Why do you need soda ash?

  • make the dye last

  • How can I make them look darker, like that in 6:11 ?

If there is a trick on that plz tell me.

  • it depends on how long you leave it to dry in the bag and how much powder dye you put into into bottle with the water, the longer the better, the more the darker

  • ooo

    I luv it!

  • do u have to put it in the washer? and most sed u wash it in cold

  • Do you mean in the washer before dying? If so, yes, when you purchase a shirt they have a bunch of oils and stuff on them, it makes it hard for the dye to take.

Washing temperature is really just preference.

  • ohhhh sorry i thought u didnt put it in the washer after dying it ............. and what do you mean by blend?

  • never i tired it on an old shirt it came out horrible

  • Aw, it happens, you just have to keep trying!

  • on mines the colors dont blend into each other ,they just look like a whole bunch of spiral lines,i dont know why

how long have you been tie-dying?

  • Are you overlapping the colors? To make them blend, you need to overlap them a little.

I've been dying for about 5 years.

  • what is soda ash

  • a chemical that makes the dye permanent, always use it or your shirts will completely fade

  • Na2CO3 Sodium carbonate (soda ash)

  • try MS3 buy it on chemical store...or Na2CO3 Sodium carbonate (soda ash)

  • try MS3 buy it on chemical store...i use that

  • I would like to know a similar product in Brazil and why the use of soda ash?

    What it is for?

  • Soda ash is what makes the dye "stick" to shirts. You need to use it when you're using procion dye. Without it the shirts will look very faded and pale.

Not sure what a similar product in Brazil would be, I'd try checking out swimming pool chemicals and looking for something called, pH Up, just check the ingredients and make sure it's at least 98% sodium carbonate.

  • I'm still looking for, I didn't find.

Thank you very much for your attention.

I loved your video and your work.

    Congratulations for your job.

  • Hi, can you tell me a similar product (soda ash) in Brazil?

  • i love ur tie dye! TIP* add some black between all the colors(a line of black as thin as u can) it adds an awesome effect to it..i have a huge tie dye hanging on the wall in my living room(looks just like the one in ur video) and it has the thin black lines and it looks BAD ASS!!!

  • Thanks, and thank you for the tip! I'll have to try it out.

  • this is the best one ive seen

  • Thank you =)

  • now its time to die

  • it's kind of astounding how people make 20 minute long tutorials and try to talk while doing it even though they tend to babble forever in between steps. thanks for using common sense. a job well done!

  • Why thank you! =]

  • yea your right

  • woow. Best I've seen on Youtube.

  • Thank you =]

  • That is so AWSOME, I cant wait to try this...

  • Thank you! Good luck! =]

  • I was thinking maybe baking soda?

  • Is there anything else I can soak it in besides soda ash?

  • You could use baking soda, but the colors don't come out nearly as bright and pretty.

I think washing soda is what you were thinking, washing soda is Sodium Carbonate, which is the same thing as soda ash, but a little different that baking soda, I've looked for it in the grocery store and at Wal-Mart and couldn't find it. You want to make sure it's 100% Sodium Carbonate too, I tried one that was 98% and it didn't work nearly as well, I think whatever they add in with it messes it up.

  • hey, this video is great,

where do you buy your soda ash & dye?

    thanks.

  • ah! this is so great! thank you! :)

  • that was good:)

im trying to learn how to tie dye right now

so i have been watching a whole bunch of vids

    your is the best!

  • great tutorial!!

  • Thank you! =)

  • will you make me one? ill send you my address please?? ill send money back=]

  • If you'd really like one, I have a website where you can order one, even make a custom order. Lemme know, I'll send you the link.

  • lololol hahah=0) cool

  • about how many gallons of water would you need for one shirt

  • Probably like half a gallon, if that, unless the shirt is like xxxxxxxxxl.

  • Wow that looks awesome.Where do i buy the duy and stuff i so wanna do those shirts.Oh and watch our show. Its under channels and type jbj show.Subscrice.Lol.Thx

  • very nice. i have done a few shirts now, and when i go to rinse them, it looses colour (not all just some). for this do i just let my shirt set for longer and then rinse, (i normally let them set for 1 - 2 days)

  • know anywhere i can get the dye other than online?

  • where can you get soda ash besides the internet!?!?

  • Anywhere that sells pool chemicals, I normally get it at Home Depot or Lowes, it'll be called something like pH Up, just look and make sure it's sodium carbonate, because that's all soda ash is.

  • thank you so much--- i just completed 3 tie-dye shirts for halloween (hope they come out as good as yours!) of all the youtubes i watched tie-dying, yours was the best by far- easy to understand, and you showed all the steps clearly and completely-- thanx again!

  • You're very welcome! How did they end up turning out?

  • they turned out awesome- i wish i could post a picture for you---i really couldnt believe how great they looked!! so glad i saw your video and didnt use RIT!!!

  • awsome thanks sooooooooo much hey how can i make a peace sighn on one

  • It's kind of hard to explain through typing, but I'll try. Get something you can use to trace a circle on the shirt with. Trace the circle in the middle of the shirt using washable marker, then using a straight-edge you're going to draw the rest of the peace sign, you're then going to fold the shirt in half vertically and make pleats or accordion fold around the circle. Then apply dye to right spots. Make any sense? Maybe I'll post a video someday.

  • thanks verrry much i did it 2 nights ago ( figurs it out) and its prolol well not pro but its prett nice thanks

  • can you buy soda ash in walmart? :/

  • Maybe, they use to have it with the pool chemicals, it's called pH Up, I live in Texas though, and they've already gotten ride of their pool chemicals. Home Depot or Lowes might have it.

  • the thing is that i live in mexico (border with california)and since i dont know what is the translation for soda ash in spanish i cant buy it here :/ so i guess i will go to home depot to buy it

  • is soda ash and washing soda the same thing? :/

  • Yes, they are. Soda ash is really just sodium carbonate, which has many uses.

  • hey...i was wondering...about how much dye should you use for one shirt?! When i made this shirt, i had alot of white undyed space. Your shirt was so bright! What am i doing wrong!?

  • I don't really have a specific amount. Try squeezing more dye on each area, stick the tip of the bottle in the folds too and make sure dye gets in there. You could also squeeze the shirt for a little before sticking it in the bag, that helps get the dye to all layers. Just keep trying at it, you'll eventually get it, I've gone through several shirts before I finally got the hang of it!

  • thank you so much for that video. my mom and i are going to try to make a shirt this weekend, and we've never done it before. so now we are way more prepared. your shirt turned really good

  • Thank you! How did yours end up turning out?

  • it turned out so good, the fork thing worked really well.

  • As a Chemistry teacher, I really appreciated your amazing job of explaining how to do this! We are making shirts tomorrow in class... I feel more prepared after your instruction! Thanks so much!

  • I totally meant to comment back to this sooner, could have sworn I did! Anyways, thank you so much! I really appreciated your comment! How did the lesson turn out?

  • what store did you buy your dye and would if be ok to use rite aid dye? how much does your dye usaualy cost per container??? oh and bye the way great video :)

  • im using rainbow rock !!!!!!!! thanx sorry for da sink thang :{

  • where can u buy soda ash plz answr? i bought some dye i need sodash!

  • 1. My sink isn't that nasty! Just dyed, it's a stationary tub in my basement anyways, doesn't need to be too nice.

    2. You need soda ash if you don't want your colors to look very pastel.

    3. You can get soda ash at some art stores, or you can find it in the pool supply section of Home Depot or Lowe's, it'll be called pH Up.

  • Were can i buy the dyes? Please answer

  • You may find it at a craft store, normally they come in kits.

You can also buy it at Home Depot or Lowe's in the poll supply aisle, it'll be called pH Up

  • do you have to put soda ash?

  • she has a nasty sink!!!

  • great video! your shirt came out AWESOME! (:

  • do you have to prepare your shirts in that chemical or not??plz respond and thats a really good video

  • Technically no. If you are using fiber reactive dye the colors will not be near as bright, and really faded.

What kind of dye are you using?

  • I'm using priocon die

  • Yeah, then I highly recommend preparing your shirts in soda ash.

  • awesome, thanks for sharing, wheres a good place for buying dye? art stores maybe?

  • if you want to make the colours of the shirt very light and pale do you not use soda ash?

  • You could, I've tried it before, they come out very pale.

  • I'll start by saying you have a great instructional video! I've a tip for you regarding the brightness of your shirts. You may want to double check the size of you squeeze bottles. Mine and 16oz. bottles and look to be the same size of your's. If that's the case then you're using too much water. With rinse in the washing machine, don't use detergent use a chemical called synthrapol. Remember, be kind to mother earth, neutralize soda ash with vinegar before pouring down the drain. You're awesome!

  • Thank you so much! And thanks for the tips! =)

  • i forgot to put it in a bag 4 24 hours and it still turned out good

  • that's cool! Mine don't come out as good. I can't seem to get the colors to seep in through the folds and I get too many white spirals. Got any hints? ;D

  • It helps if the shirt is still damp while applying the dye. Just don't squeeze it off too much before dying.

  • what if u want it to be that dark should u not wash it right after

  • Yeah, try leaving the shirts in a warm place, if you want the colors to be really bold, try waiting until the shirt is no longer wet.

  • more warm more bright colour?

  • my parents wouldnt let me do that they would make me buy it.

and ive always wanted a purple and blue tie dye shirt.

  • what happens if you dont use soda ash?
